A little warning for those with General Electric Washers

We went to the appliance store this morning after our washing machine started leaking like crazy, tons of water. I told the salesperson what happend and he said "let me guess you have a general electric". He said he knew because almost always other washers will start to leak slowly and you will see water, unless a hose blows. The GE's don't they just let go!

We had an appliance repairman come in for our Whirlpool. We decided that it didn't pay to replace it and when I asked for an opinion the repairman said to get anything but a GE. They are pieces of crap.

Any warnings on refrigerators? Our fridge is leaking. I think it is the self-defrost system such as the evaporator coils. The freezer isn't achieving a proper temperature either. I'll be calling out the repair man tomorrow.

We have a Maytag Washer/Dryer.

After this morning I would have to agree with him! What a mess.. we went out this afternoon and bought a Bosch.

LOL Donna... we had all GE originally but the Refrigerator only lasted 10 years, same problem as you it started leaking. It wasn't worth fixing.
Does anyone else use epinions.com for this stuff? I find it's pretty accurate.

Ours did that too Alex. We got a Fisher Pykel (spelled that wrong) to replace it and I love it. Hardly have to dry the clothes when they are finished washing.

We have a G.E. washer and dryer..both are 9 years old and no problems..

Just make sure there is somewhere for the water to go Shep... I am so thankful I happend to be right there when it happend. It could easily have done 1000's of dollars in damage.

Our fridge is an Amana and it is 8 years old. I semi-diagnosed it from this site:

http://www.repairclinic.com If DH and I were handier, we could probably fix it. At least it gave me enough knowledge such that the repair man hopefully won't be able to rip me off too badly. LOL

I have had a couple of episodes with things being in the drainage area and water going everywhere.. so now my philosophy is that the washer & dryer does not run unless i am here...I always turn the dryer off if it is not done when i am ready to leave...:)

DH is in the habit of turning off the water lines to the washer when we aren't using it. Of course he tightens it so tightly that I can't turn it back on when I want to do laundry... LOL

We just bought a new fridge. We had an Amana, and it was doing the leaking, not the right temperature thingie also. We had it a whole 7 years. This time we bought a cheapie with just the basics....no water or ice maker. Hopefully with less crap and just the basic it will last.

I LOVED my GE fridge! It was ancient when I replaced it earlier this year. I HATE the Maytag I got. :( It doesn't seem cold enough and makes the strangest sounds.

I'm in the market for a new washing machine right now, so I appreciate the warning Alex. Thanks!

We tried getting our Amana Fridge fixed, it worked for about a month and it started acting up again, sometimes stuff would stay cold, sometimes it wasn't so cold. The repairman said not to buy Amana, they get more Fridge calls on these than any else. He said they get the fewest calls on Kenmores and Whirlpools.

Thanks snugs!!! We are looking for appliances and Fischer Paykel was on the top of our list. :) Glad to know you like yours :)

Our Amana is 8 years old and it is the bottom freezer type. We don't have an ice maker or water dispenser as we heard those are what usually cause trouble. We really love having the freezer on the bottom.

Unfortunately, the service tech can't come out until Thursday.

I had a GE washer, it stopped spinning a couple of months ago. It was all of 2.5 years old .  the repair man and the guy at Lowe's (Home Improvement Store) said DO NOT GET GE. They used to be very good, but now they stink. Love my Whirlpool!!

OK, I found a repairman who will come out this afternoon. Can you cross your fingers for me?
