A little (tragic) story.

I've been trying to plan a father and son birthday thing this year. I ruled out Discovery Cove (at least for this year) simply because it would be too expensive for where I am right now. I decided that with the June 6 AP preview of Shrek, I should plan the trip around it. My original plan included a stay at the Hard Rock Resort, partily because it's the only UO resort left on my dance card, and because I think my dad would really enjoy it.

Anyway, I called and heard about a $129 rate for June 5 and $159 for June 6. I call my dad and it turns out he's only free on June 6 and 7, so I call UO back to book the June 6 room. During the half hour between calls, Hard Rock had become completely booked!

My dad and I have taken so many one day trips to Universal in the past, what was going to make this trip different was the resort stay (and that I was paying for it). But now I have no UO resort booked for our birthday trip.

Like JR said, keep calling back. Someone may canx at last minute, and you could get lucky.
You could bite the bullet some and reserve thru Hotelkingdom.com. We've used them several times and have always been happy. They don't do ressies after 12 noon the day of your request now though. We used to hit the road with last minute decisions & they'd call us on the cellphone to deliver conf. #.... but no more.

I decided that staying on property isn't that important in this case, since it wouldn't be as big of a deal for my dad as it would be for me. I found a great promotion for Doscovery Cove that'll nock $60 off the total cost. So we'll be going to DC for the day, Mythos or Lombards for dinner, and the Shrek preview at night, and then saying at an off property hotel.
