Hello All, it's been sometime since I posted anything or even read anything on these boards....I know some of you will read this and not quite understand it and some of you may even flame me for this....but I just have to get this out.....

In March of 2009, good friends or ours took us on a wonderful vacation to Animal Kingdom Lodge.....they are DVC members. Since we never travelled much we thought at the time that this was going to be a once in a lifetime trip. As a kid growing up, and being raised by a single mom, I never had the opportunity to go to Disney World and I always wanted to go! Anyway, myself DW and DD went on that trip and we had the best time ever!.....so much so, that the following December, our friends asked us to take a Cash trip for Christmas and we could not resist.....and of course, while we were there we bought into DVC! We did not pay it all upfront and had a loan balance that we carried and eventually would pay off over the next couple of years.

Over the next couple of years, until 2013, we traveled to our second "Home" many times and DVC became a part of our lives...In early 2013, due to a lot of different circumstances, I lost my business. Lets just say that for our whole family, the year 2013, is one we want to forget ever happened! Of course with the loss of the business, came financial implications, and we seriously considered selling our stake in DVC as we still had a balance on our loan. Well DW and I decided to try and persevere and stuck with it. Yes, we were late sometimes, yes, sometimes, we had to make 2 payments and yes, other people may think we are crazy for not just letting it go....but to us this is not "Just" a timeshare.....to us DVC is memories.....and losing it would somehow equate to losing all of those memories.

Well, what a year 2014 is shaping up to be! Not only have we caught up to all of our responsibilities, including DVC, but we think we just may be able to finally pay it off in full this year!

I just wanted to share this with people who would understand what DVC is all about and understand that this is more than just a timeshare, but an integral part of our life!.....you may not agree....but to me and my family it is and always will be!

We are back baby!! :cool1:

I don't know why anyone would flame you. We love AKV too. I completely understand why you wouldn't sell unless you had no other option. In the long run it worked out for you.
Hope things continue on the upward trend!

happy to hear things are better for you and your family! we bought dvc in 2012 and look forward to our vacations! it's truly like a second (and third, and fourth, and fifth) home!

I think it's wonderful! One of the last things I would let go is my DVC. I love it! Glad you are turning things around!

What a great story your right about it being part of your life and it will continue to be for many years. I'm glad you held on. :)

:)

There should be a "like" button like facebook. As a fellow DVCer and lover of WDW, glad to hear things have turned around!

I can only imagine how you felt hanging on through the toughest times...but the payoff is now SO worth it. Of course paying off your loan is awesome but the payoff I am referencing are the future trips and memories you will continue to build.

Makes me wonder if your purchase would have been any old timeshare if the outcome would have been the same. I am betting not...Disney/DVC are so much more!

good for you!!!

love DVC and have since 1993 - so no you are not alone.

Understand that to some of us - DVC is different!

That is wonderful! Congrats!

For us, 2012 was our awful financial year. One of the first things DH said to me, though, was "Don't even think about giving up DVC". Well, we didn't, even though it was tough. It won't be paid off this year, but it will happen. :thumbsup2

Those memories, both past and future, are very important. Tomorrow is not promised to anyone. Hooray for DVC to be a part of your yesterdays and tomorrows. ::yes::

Congrats on "getting back on a better financial road"!!!:cool1:

Hope that 2014 continues to bring happiness for you and many DVC WONDERFUL memories!pixiedust::wizard:

JUST LOVE MY DVC!:love::woohoo:

Thanks for sharing your story. I wish you continued success. I would also consider my DVC one of the last things to go if I was in your same position. Hope you get back to your second home soon.:)

Thank you all so much for your kinds thoughts and words.....It just confirms to me what I have always known, DVC is different and so are it's members!

Great to see so many of you feel the same way!:thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Congratulations. This has been a tough economy.
Maybe having the goal of ensuring you could keep, and then pay off, the DVC membership helped provide a focus to the financial planning. Somehow it's more gratifying than paying off that depreciating car in the driveway!

Awesome story!

So glad this year is so much better for you!

I wish this economy would pick up soon for everyone! It's been a tough 5 years.....on so many.

DVC makes us all feel special.....and we all deserve that so enjoy your next trip.....

Walt Disney went thru many financial ups and downs but look what he has created.......an amazing place where some many find their happy place.

Things will always get better if you just believe..".pixiedust:
