I'm a Disney lover. I LOVE Disney. I could go twice a year easily. I love the planning, I love it down there..everything.
Problem? I'm the only one in my family that feels this way.
I am married with three kids. Dh goes when we go out of obligation, and tries to make the most of it, but does not get excited about it. The oldest, now 17 1/2 really isn't crazy about it anymore. The little ones will take a park for about 2 hours MAX and then all they want is to go back to the hotel. (ages 5 and 7..7yo has adhd and sensory issues)
Dd, 17, is looking at colleges and is about to put in her early acceptance applications. We just took our last "family" trip to Disney in August, and quite frankly, it was a disaster..partly because my little ones were miserable, and mostly because our dog got sick and died within hours of us getting home. Anyway....
I'm sitting here tonight, wishing I were planning another trip to Disney. But I'm not. I'm planning a trip to Greece....just me and dd when she graduates. I know, not too shabby, but I'm reminiscing and missing her getting excited to go see the Mouse and sort of sad that we won't be going to Disney at all next year, with college expenses and the trip to Europe should that come to pass. We won't be going to Disney because I think the kids have had enough of Disney for a while..they really weren't crazy about it. We'll likely do a beach vacation with them at Cape Cod or something.
What if my little ones aren't Disney lovers??? What if they don't come around??
Do any of you have that "two families" thing going on? Much older kids and then very young ones? I've been full of emotions the last few days watching my dd prepare college aps, and getting ready to visit her college of choice this weekend. She's so grown up. I literally sat on her bed last night watching her pack for this weekend and as she's packing, I'm seeing her at 5 years old. I'm so excited for her..but so can't believe I really do have to start letting go.
That makes it harder looking at the little ones..because I know first hand how fast it truly does fly by.
So, I know, I probably shouldn't even be thinking of Disney World right now, but well, it's my "happy place"...and I feel like the only one that really liked it was dd, and she's more interested in world travel now and her future..and the little ones, well, I think I've spoiled them with too much Disney or something..or, ugh, they take after their dad and would rather go to a historical museum or something.
I was watching a show on the travel channel a few weeks ago on Yellowstone and commenting to my brother how much I think the kids would love that. He looked at me like I had three heads...he said "wouldn't they rather go to Disney World at that age??" I had to honestly reply "no, I think they'd rather be out in nature looking at the animals" Not that that isn't fantastic,
but gosh darnit, why can't I have another Disney fanatic in my family ?????? LOL
