A little extra fun on Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT!,

I wish they had stopped the ride on my last visit. When I sat down I pulled out the seatbelt a bit extra so I didn't have any trouble getting it around me and clicked in, and then I pulled on the other end of the seatbelt to make sure the slack was pulled back in. Once the attraction started I found I had a lot more "air time" during drops, to the point I felt very unsafe. Apparently there was still too much slack. I held on as tight as I could, as I felt like I might come free of the seat and belt at any time. Honestly it was terrifying (and I normally love the ride, riding it multiple times each trip). It was totally my fault and I'm not sure the CM would have noticed the extra slack since I didn't (I think it was under me when I sat down, so it didn't appear loose at all). Serious lesson learned. I didn't ride again that trip but will next time, and will be sure there's no slack.

It makes me wonder how far you have to rise above your seat for them to notice. And I thought that the CMs looked for people stopping the belt from retracting. ??

I always assumed that was "everyone's arms up; okay now pull on the yellow tab" line--to make sure no one was holding any extra slack on purpose...

I am totally on the opposite of the spectrum. I make sure that belt is low over my hips, under my tummy, and seriously tight!

Tug on the tab is to make sure the belt is correctly locked in since while the computer next to the sliding door tells them the belt is inserted it won’t necessarily show that it’s correctly locked in. The arms up is to make sure nothing is between the belt and your body.

This happened to us as well a few months ago. A minute or two into the ride, the car comes to a complete stop and the lights come on. It took awhile before they made any announcements, finally the CM says over the speaker that they are watching us and can see everything we do on the ride. We are slowly lowered back down and when the doors open, the CM pulls off one of the girls in the front row. They go outside to "chat" but we can pretty hear everything. Apparently the girl stuck her arms out, reaching over the front of car, which stopped the ride. He gave her and her friends a warning and started the ride again.

And we did get a different song on the second ride, so it does seem totally random.

I'm trying to figure out, not how they did it, but WHAT they did. Did they make it so that the seatbelt was looser so they would come up a bit, or was the seatbelt not fastened at all?

I remember when they used to have (at least at WDW TOT) the row long lap bars instead of individual seatbelts. When I was a kid, I LOVED going on the ride with adults because there was always space for me to fly up just a little bit. Made it even more fun.

This scares me about taking my 3 yo on big thunder for the first time next trip.

LOL! I was actually trying to understand how I can feel so far off the seat, but it's likely a combination of being off the seat and my stomach in my throat that does it!!!!

This scares me about taking my 3 yo on big thunder for the first time next trip.

I vividly remember BTM with my daughter when she was three. She was in front of me with DH and I was holding her down from behind. Having a heart attack obviously! She loved every minute of it!

There are small rod type handles between the seats and if you are in an end seat there is a handlebar on the “wall”.

I was in left side rear row and there was a handle on the wall. My right hand was squeezing my daughters friends leg to death!!! LOL so not sure if there was a handle between us!

I always ask for that end seat and I grab the handlebar on the wall for dear life. HaHa!

I always try to hold my 4 year old on big thunder and she always pushes my hands off her and lift her arms up. I hate it! I wish they all had individual lap bars.

Glad to hear that the CMs on GOTG are being vigilant about reckless/idiot guests. Those kinds of shenanigans can really badly injure someone else. So not worth it.

For those worried about BTMRR: I don't know if the CMs still do this, and it only happened to me once, but there is a (very) thick padded cylinder that slips over the lap bar to make up for any large gap that might occur between a larger and smaller rider sharing a seat. DH is bigger than I am (but not hugely so), and one time a CM slipped the cylinder over our lap bar to make up for the gap. It really surprised us. I happen to like the gap (on that ride, anyway), and the cylinder certainly kept me snugly contained in my seat. Oh well, safety first! I don't know if you could ask for the cylinder when riding with a small child. Some of my friends have their kids wear their backpacks frontwards to fill in the gap or so that someone can hang on to the straps from behind if the kid is sitting alone in front.
