A little disappointed with new Little Mermaid ride....

Rode it in CA earlier this year and was underwhelmed. Rode the WDW version during the soft opening during the MNSSHP in October and was really hoping for more---nah, same old ride. The kiddos will like it---but there's nothing sophisticated with the technology so I believe most teens/adults will try it once and it will be a walk on in WDW just like it is in DL.

Thank goodness you pointed this out. I was unaware I had a choice.

hahaha!!! :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

I think it's funny sometimes when people post their opinions on here and other people come on to be smarta$$ about it! It's not like you said "I thought it was lame so everyone else should too."

I'm going in January and watched the ride on youtube and it looks like the Finding Nemo ride. Yes, it' cute but couldn't there be something a little more unique about it? I'll try not to knock it until I try it but I have a feeling I'll be on your side about this one!

Don't get me wrong. It was cute. I just felt with all the amazing technologies we have today they really implemented none of it. Same ole animatronics, projectors, and wheels and pulleys spinning things about. No doubt a disney classic but I wish the imagineers would be more imaginative.

Me personally I would have done something epic with the end Ursula whirlpool scene. Maybe my imagination isn't in the budget. ;)

I agree. The thing that gets us the most is the ride vehicle itself. It really is just basically the same vehicle as Nemo (yes it opens differently, but that's it). I think that's what disappointed us the most. It's cute enough, but nothing spectacular that's for sure. I will say, one advantage, is that once the hype of the new ride thing calms down, the line will probably not be very long at any given time. We went to DL last month, and each time we walked by the Ariel ride, there was absolutely NO wait at all.

As much as you have complained about various things on various posts, I wasnt sure that you really did know you have a choice. ;)

Ha!:rotfl::thumbsup2 Some people just like to complain, I think. It's what makes them happy. :upsidedow

It's not like Disney gives a rat's patootie if the OP likes the ride.

I thought it could have been better done but it was never intended to be that area's Eticket. That will be Seven Dwarfs. Would have liked a bit more detail but I suspect the kids will love it. The queue is one of the best they've done.

The queue was neat. I didn't get to see it much because there was no wait but what i did see was great. I really can't wait for the mine train!! I hope they pulled out all the stops!

Everyone one is making me worried about the Little Mermaid as I will ride it the first time in a few weeks. It looks like a decent ride, I was thinking the queue might be the best part of it maybe. Was the part where it looks like you are going "under the sea" kinda cool or ? Other than that, a small world-ish ride?

It's kinda cool, but won't blow you away.

I just rode it yesterday, and I could have written this post. I'm a little surprised at the pre-show/walk through area. The young boys kept climbing all over the "rocks" and trying to look at the crab. I kept waiting for one of them to fall and get hurt because Mommy and Daddy Oblivious were paying zippo attention to the kiddos.

cute ride but not as "wow" as I had been hoping.

The one thing that bothered us was one of the Ariel's in the ride actually looks strange (eyes/ face ) and we all thought they could have done a much better job on her.

I'm sure we'll ride it each trip but it's not what we went home talking about (that honor went to Enchanted Tales with Belle!)

Sorry to hear the less than stellar reviews. It'll be another year before we get back, but we were getting exited to see it.

We were completely underwhelmed as well. I agree that with all the new technology, they could have done so much more. We went during MVMCP, so there was no wait. Couldn't believe how long we had to walk through the que to get to the ride. It was better than Enchanted Tales with Belle. Don't even get me started on all the things wrong with that attraction! :sad2:

Well, it's too bad that the imagineers didn't produce a ride that adults would like. Fantasyland at Disney World shouldn't target the kid audience apparently.

Really people, you are complaining about a ride that is supposed to produce a smile on kid's faces and transport them to that world. It wasn't designed to be Expedition Everest.

Also, it's a dark ride that has been imagineered in the Disney tradition. If you look at the other dark rides in the Magic Kingdom it's easily #1 or #2, maybe only behind Pirates. Definitely better than Peter Pan, Haunted Mansion, Pooh, IASW, and Splash. This was not designed as an E ticket attraction.

As for my opinion of it, and I'm a 44 year old father of two teen daughters, I love the ride. Very fun and upbeat, and the Ursula animatronic is amazing. Love the music and all the details, if you look for them. It's a great dark ride.

Cute, but not spectacular. Cool for a one time per trip (maybe) thing, but I guess if there isn't a line I'd probably go on it again. Just wish there was more to it.

Better than The Haunted Mansion???? The HM with the interactive queue alternative and the immensely stupendous ending with the ghosts riding in or on your doom buggy ---love the one that takes off your head and places it on the other rider?! Now THAT'S an effective use of technology.:thumbsup2

I have to respectfully disagree with you on this:flower3:

It's not like Disney gives a rat's patootie if the OP likes the ride.

Actually there have been a number of Disney attractions that have been removed or renovated over the years because people didn't like them (i.e. Imaaaagination... or the lack thereof).

I agree with the OP that the ride is underwhelming. The animatronic technology on this ride is very advanced, but that alone doesn't provide the "Oh Wow" moments that some other attractions have.

I can't wait for the Mine Train. I think that one is meant to be the big draw for the New Fantasyland, along with BOG.

How do you explain why Stitch is still there?;) I don't really hate any WDW attraction, personally, but that one really has people who despise it.

I am glad I read this. I will ride when I am in DL next month and decide if it is worth a wait when I am next at WDW. Anyone know when the Mine Train is expected to open? I will be there end of Feb.

ETA Nevermind, I see on the WDW site that it opens in 2014.
