A little conerned with WCC and 50's PT

My son does not really like alot of attentionand neither do I for that matter. This is going to be a surprise trip for him this December and I've booked these 2 ADR's. Will the staff get the idea not to cause a commotion with us if He gets embaressed? We been several times and wanted to try new places this time.

Hi,

There have been quite a few posts on this topic.

The general consensus is that you can tell the host/hostess at the podium and your server-- but other CMs in those restaurants might not get the message and may start some antics at or involving your table.

Those are definitely not good restaurants to go to if you or your son will be stressed by the possibility of attention. I'd go for other places you have not tried.

Of all the restaurants on property, these are the two where you might receive the, uh, most attention.

I think that early on, if you start feeling uncomfortable, you should tell your servers that you just want to eat. That way you can sit back and watch the others around you get caught up in the shenanigans. Your servers *should* get the hint.

OTOH, you might find yourself pleasantly surprised and get caught up in the fun.

50s Prime Time will probably be ok. THe servers there seemed sensitive to groups that were tired, didn't want to "play," etc.

WCC...I'd go somewhere else. First, we liked the antics but not the food. Secondly, the antics were non-stop at every table we could see.

If you and your son don't like attention those are not the restaurants for you. There are plenty more restaurants why take the chance that he will get upset?

dianemb...just ran this by my 11 3/4 year old DD who sounds like your son. (You didn't mention his age...but she said no way! ...We stayed at the WL 3 years ago and just hearing the antics from WCC in the lobby freaked her out...(now my almost 4 year son would probably love it... (but truthfully it isn't my cup of tea either...)

Prime Time is probably a little more low key but it really depends on quite how much your son hates attention and the CM you get... it could go either way... (We're not going there either lol-although we've been there in the past) She wants to try Sci Fi.

Were there any other options you were considering?

Thanks for all the reviews. My son is 11 years old and we are staying a WL, that's why we picked WCC. We needed a meal in MGM and liked the menu at 50's PT. I've been looking at other comments and it seems that some people are joked with and some aren't depending on server. This will be our 4th time and have eaten at quite a few of the resturaunts before. It is also a surprise visit for my son. He has broken his arm twice in the last year and had to have surgery once and I was in a car accident and broke my pelvis in 4 places. He does not like change and has had to put up with a lot in the last year. So I don't want to ask his opinion on this and may just take my chances and keep my fingers crossed

my son at 8 now says he wants to be a stand up comic when he grows up.

We have ressies for both of these rest's for our upcomign trips

I think he will love both!

My family and I went to WCC and 50's on our last trip. At the time I was 11 3/4 and I LOVED them both!

Most of the kids my age that I see now seem embarassed but I was right with the younger kids on the stick horses

Prime Time you don't get that much attention, unless your my dad and get an Ariel Bib because you were acting like a baby It was my first time there so I was pretty low-key and the only thing the waitress said to me was "Wow your a really good girl! Tonight, I'll let you stay up until 7:00! "

Have you thought about shifting one of them to something a little more low-key, so that if one is overwhelming you don't have to brace yourself for a second round? Sci-Fi's food isn't OMG phenominal but there's really something on the menu for just about anyone, and it's pretty quiet and definitely some dining that's more about the experience without being in-your-face.

Did both this last trip, because of the antics. Since you are staying at the WL, why not keep the WCC one for now and observe from the lobby (on your check in day and other days being "around") what goes on in the restaurant. It will be very easy to see/hear/follow. If it seems fun as you observe it, go for it. If not, cancel and chose something else. I am disappointed when I don't get a "fun" CM at a place like 50's and WCC. But there are quieter CM's. The problem, at WCC especially, is that sometimes CM's from other tables get involved with you, and they may not be aware of your wishes to be let alone. I know we had server form a nearby table yell at my DD for "keeping" a bottle of ketchup when we were asked to give them up to another table. And, I mean yell. So you just don't know.
I think a great alternative to Prime Time would be SciFi, but you may have already done that one and wanted something new. And, a great breakfast buffet is at Trail's End, just a quick boat ride from WL. Great food at a good price.

We went to WCC this past March. Not by choice, we were given a seat that wasn't in the big, main part of the restaurant. There was a LOT less ruckus. If I can describe it alright, here goes.... You enter into a big, main room. Then there is a smaller area that is near where the servers come out of the kitchen. THEN there's a smaller, end section that's somewhat "away" from all of the hoopla. I'll bet, if you ask for a table in the "further sections" it would be better for your son. I also think that, if you talk to your server and explain, that they'd do anything to make your experience nicer for your family. It is Disney, right?

The attention bit is something I could leave or take, but DH and DS10 both have high potential to get annoyed/anxious over that kind of situation. We were staying at VWL, so I did go ahead and make a reservation at WCC, knowing we could observe a bit first...not to mention the convenience.

The thing is, it's kind of like trying to appreciate someone else's private joke when you're just observing from the outside. The only thing we saw/heard was when a woman was leaving the restaurant, a female waitress ran over and yelled over the side of the restaurant in a very sarcastic voice, "Oh, 'bye, Princess! Hey everyone, Princess is walking through the lobby now! I hope they all treat Princess right!" I couldn't tell if the woman seemed to think it was funny, but embarrassing or if she was mortified. DS turned to me and said,"I really think Dad won't like eating there." With all the places to eat at WDW, I thought,"Why take the chance and spend the money when there're places I know we all love?" so we cancelled.

We ate at PT this May and my daughter was completely stressed. She is only 6, but didn't really understand the concept. The man at the table next to us didn't eat his vegetables and the server made him stand up and put his nose on the wall and said he couldn't have dessert. My daughter immediatly wanted to leave.

She did clean her plate, but her stomach was soooo full it started to hurt!

We have eaten at WCC and if you don't like attention, don't go there!
