A little bummed about MH at SSR

We will be staying at Saratoga Springs May 22-27. I just received a letter today saying that High Rock Springs Pool may be closed at different times due to the Member Homecoming. Well we can't afford the homecoming because the discount wasn't enough for us. (We have annual passes and we just couldn't justify the teensy price break. ) I guess we'll be pool hopping to find my daughter a water slide. ::MinnieMo

I have to agree that just doesn't seem right. Members who have been waiting for their home resort SSR to open and scheduled a trip in the early weeks really should have full access to the pool. I would not be happy.

What?! I'd call member services say say "absofreakinglutely no way are you banning us from our home pool..."

its worth a try.

I have to agree--that's ridiculous.

But maybe they can at least assign some dates to these closures. AFAIK, the only event specifically slated for SSR is the luncheon on the final day. Perhaps they need the pool area to help stage the event.

Call and try to get details. At least if it's just the one day, perhaps you can schedule your pool time around the event. Or, suggest that you be invited to that particular event due to the inconvenience. ;)

Let me get this right- You won't be able to use the pool at your own resort? What's the price per night (not counting points)? I would definitely be a very squeaky wheel.

I would go as high as possible with a complaint on this one - some welcome home that message is

Did it state times of closure? In other words was it overnight or was it during prime time pool time?

thanks

I would be a bit upset too -- even though we are attending the MH events.

My understanding is that the last day of the event is the actual grand opening of SSR. If this is the case and it's being held in the pool area, the pool should only NOT be available on that day. While I wouldn't be happy about it, we've stayed at resorts where the pool was closed for a day or two (Hilton Head last summer).

I would certainly question what they meant by it not being available. And, I would find out the time frame they are talking about. I don't think anything else is scheduled for MH except for the final day at SSR.

I hope it works out for you. Sounds like it might be a hassle if not.

didn't our new dvc president say that he loved to hear from its members? I have no idea how to contact him though.

First off, I agree this is ridiculous.

But saying that, We have stayed at the BC before when SAB closed early for a private party and so did the beach area near it.

You have GOT to be kidding me. Okay -- I am going to call and try to find out the latest. We are also going to SSR that week -- and it is our home resort. And I am using that pool! :p

If anyone else find out more info, please post. Thanks!!!

Edited to add: I really don't mean to be completely unreasonable. Closing it for a few hours for a party is fine. Any more than that, though, would make me mad. And you wouldn't like me when I'm mad.

I'm furious, and I'm not even going to be there then! That's MY membership and maintenance money slapping me in the face as far as I'm concerned. I'm insulted enough over the price of the Members' Homecoming but this is ridiculous. I'm usually a very calm woman but they're gonna be glad I'm NOT there during this. Keep us posted!

I would call back or write so you have it in writing and tell them that if they are making your home resort pool unavailable to you then you want the right during that time to go to Stormalong Bay for use or any resort pool that you desire. They have no right to keep you from your enjoyment of your pool and if they do , then they owe you big time. If they close access to one, they should open access to another. Good luck and keep us posted.

I'm going to MH, but as an SSR owner, I'm mad, too! If the closure is anything more than a few hours for a private party (which does happen all over WDW - resorts, parks, restaurants, etc) then it is just wrong.

I'm curious, though; have any of you longer-term DVC owners been denied use of your resort's facilities due to an exclusive event (not talking rehab, etc)?

This is exactly what the letter said:

"Dear Disney Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa Guest,

Something new is springing up in the heart of Walt Disney World resort and we see that you will be here during many of our resort festivities to mark the opening of the latest addition to the Disney Magic. We are sure that you will enjoy being part of the excitement.

On May 25-27, 2004, Disney Vacation Club will host a special event called Member Homecoming. During this event there may be times when High Rock Spring Pool, our feature pool will not be available for your use; however the leisure pool will remain open for your enjoyment. If you would like to take part in these festivities or need further assistance, you may call Member Services at (800) 800-9800 during regular business hours to purchase your event tickets.
We look forward to seeing you at Disney's Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa and wish you a magical stay.

Sinerely,
The Cast of Disney's Saratoga Resort"

I couldn't resist. I think you should write back:

On May 25-27, 2004, when Disney Vacation Club hosts a special event called Member Homecoming at when High Rock Spring Pool, our feature pool, I plan to make it available for our use and insist you plan to make sure it remains open for our enjoyment. We will not be purchasing special event tickets as I am certain you can move the festivities to leisure pool for your event enjoyment.

Sorry but you do not "own" the resort- you own a membership interest in the resort....you own the right to stay there. Getting all mad and inventing rights is just going to get yourself in a huff and nothing good will come of it....This is one vacation out of many that you will enjoy...I would agree that to be so vague about when they will be restricting the pool when they should know darn well exactly when they are having that party--the last day isn't it?--is annoying and all too typical of recent Disney behaviour...but take a deep breath, count to ten and go to the leisure pool or maybe to another pool at one of the many we are still allowed to hop to...BTW I notice that the shutting down of the OKW pool for the slide announcement said nothing about going over to SSR...I suspect SSR pool will be restricted like SAB and the AKL pool are....

This is bologna.

The part of the letter that says:

If you would like to take part in these festivities...
implies that you won't be unhappy about the pool closure should you decide to purchase Member Homecoming event tickets. It's like another pitch for those who haven't already purchased--implying that for not purchasing you will be "left out" as much as you will not even be able to use the pool.

If I was going during that time, I would raise HELL.
