A little bummed about MH at SSR

On the bright side: If they are holding a special party there, then that is probably because it is going to be a super cool pool, right? Right? Something worth showing off. At least I hope so.

I am going to try and focus on this belief (deluded though it may be) and enjoy the pool on the other days of my trip.

I can't believe that we still know so little about the pool. Still seems like a big mystery to me. I know it will have rocks and a slide. That's about it. No sense of scale, how fun it will be, or even what it will look like (beyond those vague drawings on the website . . .)

If you guys are that unhappy with your dvc purchase over this, just sell.

:D And if you're unhappy with a thread, don't read it. :D

Have a great day, all! :sunny:

I don't think selling is really what anyone wants to do. I just know that if I was making my first trip home and couldn't use the pool because of the big ticket member homecoming party, I would be very disappointed. That said, voicing your opinion is the best thing members could do.

Hi all!
I`ve been reading all these posts, and felt I just had to give my 2 cents worth.

When we bought SSR, back in Oct., `03, our first instinct was to (naturally), book our home Resort for our First trip as DVC owners:, and we did!

In Nov, and again in Dec., we kept watching the construction pictures, and in Jan., we took a good look, and realized ,that, we might not be enjoying ALL of that Beautiful Resort, (be it off limits for a private party , or just not completed) (It also pays to have a DH in the Building Line)!, so we changed our ressies to BCV, and we`ll take advantage of the 11 month window 2nd time out! We know how you guys feel!!, We would have felt the same!

We bought SSR sight unseen, and can`t wait to see it in person!!!

GOOD LUCK TO ALL OUR FELLOW SSR OWNERS!!!

Sincerely,

Interesting distinction. I'll give it to you. Please don't rain on the parade though of those who announce..I just bought at XXX.
Getting all mad and inventing rights is just going to get yourself in a huff
Now look who's getting huffy. The letter was meant to be a spoof off Disney's letter.
I would agree that to be so vague about when they will be restricting the pool when they should know darn well exactly when they are having that party
I agree wholeheartedly.
is annoying and all too typical of recent Disney behaviour
Wow. I wouldn't take it that far. I find it atypical and worth a phone call or letter to get them to be more specific.

Beachclubvillas, that was too too funny - loved the letter back with their drippy nonsense and attitude right back at them

Cheers

I think what Cris's point is and Cris if I have misunderstood your intent, my apologies in advance.

I have a friend whose son goes to Northwestern University in Chicago. A very fine school. However as with many things not everything there is done to her liking, she constantly complains about how they do things. She is not happy to even just complain she wants to change it all. My response to her is, if you don't like the school and the way it is, then don't pay to send your son there.

I think we see alot of members on this board that constantly want DVC to change to fit them.

I'm going to MH, but as an SSR owner, I'm mad, too! If the closure is anything more than a few hours for a private party (which does happen all over WDW - resorts, parks, restaurants, etc) then it is just wrong.

I'm curious, though; have any of you longer-term DVC owners been denied use of your resort's facilities due to an exclusive event (not talking rehab, etc)?

Erick

The closing of SAB for the party I mentioned was more like 6 hours, afternoon and evening.

Sammie, I think in this case, the OP and related parties are within bounds on complaining on this one - not a good idea for DVC to close access to SSR theme pool at anytime but to link it to the MH event and then wrap that within the same message as c'mon buy tickets...that is really cheesie........

thanks

I really don't see what the problem is. Im an owner at SSR, and I will be attending MH. How is closing the pool early for a special event different than closing a park for special events, or a restaurant or any Disney owned property. DVC is most likely planning all their PR of SSR that week including MH thus the warning about the pool.

I have been there when MK closed very early for special events.
I'd be happy for the warning and Im sure when they solidify the dates and times of the other events they will let those affected know.

I understand that not everyone is choosing to attend MH, but even if they werent having MH, this is a new Resort, Highly visible, and these special press events that affect the use of certain facilities would be held regardless.

The exact wording of the notice was:

"On May 25-27, 2004, Disney Vacation Club will host a special event called Member Homecoming. During this event there may be times when High Rock Spring Pool, our feature pool will not be available for your use."

They've basically left the door wide open for people to think that the pool MAY be closed for undetermined portions over a three day span. I think those who are staying at SSR have a right to be upset at the wording of this notice. If the only event actually at SSR is the luncheon on the 27th, then why even mention the other two days?

On days where they close parks or other resort amenities for private parties, I sincerely doubt they have CMs with bullhorns announcing "OK, we need everyone outta here in 45 minutes!!!" Park closures are pre-defined and accounted for in the posted hours.

I hate to beat a dead horse, but this is just another example of the disorganization that I feel has undermined the entire event. Eight months before the event they could hardly tell people what they would be getting for their $300. 45 days before the event the don't even know what days / times they will have to close the SSR feature pool.

Contrary to popular suggestion, I'm not ready to sell my membership over this (sorry, Kelly Nelly), but it's still a black eye for DVC.

If it were me, I'd be much more understanding about pools closing for special events that don't include us IF DVC would then make special arrangements for members to pool hop ANYWHERE during those times we are inconvienced.

Lets face it, they are screwing up. There should be some alternative to the cost of losing the pool benefit during your stay. I could care less about a memo that was sent after I had made reservations for a stay at my home resort. DVC should have planned this a little better. I hope Mr Eisner is not present, as that would just put a dampner on the occasion.

I think it is somewhat different. Many of the people who are attending Member Homecoming are presumably new SSR owners. The letter that was sent out sounds like the exclusivity of the event trumps the importance of receiving the benefits of one's DVC resort (for the first visit, I might add). I think it is pretty unfair to those who didn't book the event. Like others have said, DVC could have more solidly stated a time for the closure or offered pool hopping, for example, at SAB. It just seems sort of dismissive. I, for one, am really looking forward to SSR's pool and would be very disappointed to receive such a letter.

First of all I do apologize upfront for MH causing interference in someone staying there. Shouldn't be that way.

Now, one of the things that was mentioned about that day for the Homecoming event was tours of the resort. I would think they are closing the pool area to give said tours safely. The wording in that note is too vague, there should be no reason they should be closing the pool for more than the one day all the media events are going on there.

I would expect there are going to be a good number of other impacts as well on the resort that day with the official 'grand opening' event going on. They should have put that out upfront to anyone that was going to book there in that timeframe.

To me it sounds like a cynical ploy to sell more MH tickets. They are deliberately not telling you when you won't have access to the pool so you will feel under pressure to buy the tickets for the full access which your SSR membership should entitle you to anyway.

What a cheek!

BINGO!

Media event? I don't think there will be a major media event connected with the opening of the resort, certainly not on the scale of a park opening. I believe the opening of BCV was akin to the manager tossing a handful of confetti. ;)

It's true that they often close portions of hotels/parks for periods of time. PI often opens late after private parties but many times some "special" is given to guests who have to wait.

But, SSR owners have been waiting months from their purchase to the opening of their resort. To be told that folks staying at other DVC resorts but participating in this event are going to be given priority seems odd. The resort is only at a fraction of what the pool is designed to hold -- it seems as if everyone could be accomodated. I could see possibly having limited hours on the SSR event day but to say it will be limited for several days is pushing the limit.

It's not the end of the world but I think getting a notice of exclusion when you might be expecting a "so glad you're coming to SSR!" notice would throw some cold water on me.
