A Little Bit of Dis and a Little Bit of Dad-Updated 1/24 One Week From Today

Hi! :wave2: Can I join the fun? Bartender, I'll have a Lapu Lapu! :drinking1 Of course, after that, this is me --> :crazy2: What can I say, I'm a lightweight!

I'm coming out of lurkdom because your story about your dad & the watch & then ya'll surprising your dad just got me all teary eyed! *sniff* What a wonderful daughter you are! :lovestruc

Can't wait to hear more about your trip!

Of course! Welcome aboard, I hope I don't disappoint!

I just want to say up front that it is NOT my fault that I went shopping online at disney.com and bought 4 new shirts. I had planned on wearing one of the t-shirts that I already have made from my last 2 trips. I am one of THOSE people that makes matching shirts for the entire family with Disigns from the Disboards. Anywho, I have been reading how cold it is in February sometimes, and it's been cold lately, and I didn't have anything long sleeve that was Disney, and I know I could just wear thermals underneath my t's (I actually bought 3 new ones for this purpose) but there was this SALE! And EVERYONE ELSE WAS DOING IT!!

(in case you are wondering, this rant is just in case my husband decides to read this thread.)

So here is my online shopping booty for your viewing pleasure:

Now I know this one is short sleeve, but it was only $5.99! :confused3

I also found in the bottom of my Disney stuff, my Overland bag that I HAD to have last fall that never made it into a single park. We used the backpack again, but this time, I'm not even taking a backpack, so I will be forced to use this bag. I'm hoping it lives up to all of the hype. As you can see, I even bought the shoulder pad as suggested on these boards. :rotfl:

And last but not least, I wanted to show you the part of my Cinderella Castle Themed bedroom that makes me smile (and is the only clean part of my room-yes, I know it's a wall, but it's clean isn't it?? :rolleyes1) We are painting the walls a different color this spring, but I was anxious to decorate even though the colors don't coordinate.

The framed pictures are actually Punkin's, she was gracious enough to send me copies that I could enlarge for my room. There are others around the room, but those parts aren't available at this time.

Now if you are wondering why I'm not making matching t's for this trip, it is because my Dad does not wear t-shirts. I have NEVER seen him in one, and I probably never will. I have no idea what the story is behind it, but he refuses to wear them. He has always worn button up, short sleeved shirts, and recently has taken to wearing loud tropical prints :eek:instead of his 40 year plaid run. Anyway, that's why no matching t's this trip.

Your dad is a smart man!! I never wear t-shirts either, other than for sleeping.:rotfl:

I LOVE seeing families in matching "T's" and anyone else in T-shirts, just not me....nope, never. :thumbsup2

Loving your PTR!

We don't do matching anything!!!! ButTees are al wear in Disney!! Prolly cuz I have to wear Business casual for work except on Friday and then it's jeans and Tees !!

:rotfl2: My dad has started wearing these shirts too!! It started about 1-2 years ago. :confused3

I love the fact that I'm not the only one who caves to Dis peer pressure! :thumbsup2 I like your shirts. Very nice!!

Sounds like it's going to be a fun trip!!! What a great daughter to be taking your dad to disney!!

I love how you surprised him. You explained why disney is such a great vacation....because you can do pretty much everything:thumbsup2

cute shirts!

I'm dying for my order to get here....I'm gonna give the ups guy a huge kiss when he shows up!

My dad has always worn the button up, short sleeve, plaid with a front pocket shirt...He also went through a loud hawaiian shirt phase...

but that was almost 20 years ago, but he scarred me for life because I had to be seen in public with him wearing his hawaiian shirt and OVERALLS along with platform thongs.....this was the late 80's when no one wore those.

My best friend and I dressed up as my dad for halloween that year.

Great intro! :thumbsup2

What a creative surprise! I love the sassy Tink shirt.

Thanks, I'm not a big Tink fan, but I thought that one was cute.

Thanks! I don't make ours match exactly, just the shirt color so we look nice in our pictures (in my opinion). The Disign is usually different on each one. The boys won't let me dress them at home, but at Disney, I'm the boss. :thumbsup2

I think it's just another thing for me to work on and obsess over in my trip planning. It also let's me control what my kids have on even more! :woohoo:

Thank you! I don't know where the weird shirt thing started with Dad. He used to be so "formal" in his dress. Maybe he thinks that's how to relax?? :headache:

I'm super excited to be taking him. He works non-stop (and has for years) so it's nice to take care of him for once.

I stand at the door like a puppy when I hear the truck coming towards my house.

Wow about your dad's wardrobe. Umm, I think I'll live with the shirts. Sounds like your dad would be stylin' about now in LA or NY! :cool1:

So my second online shopping package came today from Old Navy. I bought the cutest cargo pants/capris for $10 each! Now, technically I can't use them as pants (unrolled) or they are about 10 inches too long, but when they are rolled up and buttoned as capris, they hit me about 1/2 inch higher than my pants do so I'm not sure what to call them. :confused3 The best part (other than the price) was that they are jersey lined, so they feel like I am secretly wearing sweat pants! :woohoo: Can you say comfy?? Here are the pics off of the site for you to check out as the originals are currently in the washing machine.

I bought green

and earl gray

This was the only 2 colors left, so I HAD to get them both, right?? :thumbsup2

I can't believe that 2 weeks from tonight I will be packed and counting down the hours until time to leave!!! :yay::banana::cheer2:

OMG! OMG! OMG! I have to show this to you guys!! My birthday was Sunday and my DH was really upset because his gift for me wasn't finished yet. He is a wire jewelry artist and he has been incredibly busy lately. ANYWAY, I just got my birthday gift and I am in tears!!

mickeypendant2.jpg

Do you recognize that red Mickey head inside??

mickeyheads.jpg

Yep, it is confetti from our last night in Disney at the Wishes Dessert Party! DH had collected it off of the table when I wasn't looking to make me a pendant with! He even put a hidden Mickey in the bail (not really hidden, but you know what I mean!)

He usually makes pendants from people's flowers (prom, wedding, funerals, etc.) but said he didn't want to get arrested for picking flowers in Disney World! :rolleyes1

Anyway, he is the sweetest DH in the world (right now) and I had to share with everyone I know who will appreciate it!

.

of course you had to buy both!! they were on sale, so really you were saving money..:thumbsup2

Let me give you a little background on my Dad and I. I am third born out of 4 daughters, no boys. My dad has worked hard his entire life. He quit school in the 6th grade to help support his mom, dad, brothers and sister as he was the oldest of six kids. My dad took care of my grandparents until they died and has always worked to make sure my mom, sisters and I had everything we ever needed. I'm not saying we were spoiled, but he wanted us to have more than he did. My dad's way of showing affection to us girls was by working hard.

When dad and mom took us to Disney the first time, we drove down in the family station wagon ( I didn't fly for the first time until I was 18) and they sat through time share presentations to get the tickets while we got to hang out in the arcade or the pool. I don't think I could, or would sit through time share presentations every morning for 4 days to take my family to Disney World and Sea World. Would YOU??

So we ate free breakfast, us kids played while mom and dad pretended to be interested in time shares, then we hit the parks for the day. We packed lunches into the parks, then ate Shoney's or Golden Corral for dinner. When we went back when I was in high school, we ate lunch in the parks at counter service, but we shared meals so it didn't cost as much. I have wanted to take Dad to the table service restaurants ever since my husband and I ate at some of them 12 years ago! I found even more the past two years on the dining plan with my family.

I didn't want Dad freaking out over menu prices on this trip, so I bought us the regular dining plan. So when I made my dining choices for Dad and I, there were several things I had to keep in the back of my mind. First of all, Dad likes buffets. Dad likes breakfast. And Dad likes seafood and steak. He does not like Mexican, Italian, or "exotic" food of any kind. He is a very meat and potatoes kind of guy. The only "different" kind of food that he likes is Chinese or Japanese food.

So our first night, I made reservations for . . .
