Disney's official stance appears to be "no confrontation with guests." They'll push it only if the guest escalates to the level where they need to call security.

I completly understand that Disney doesn't want to upset anyone, but by allowing the bratty child to continue to get their way Disney maybe inadvertantly driving away the thoes who actually have manners. This saddens me! Disney is a happy place, it's an escape for many people, individuals, familys and friends, it's not a place for rudness. I wish Disney would make a stand, some behaviors just shouldn't be accepted.

As she was walking by, I would of said something like, "it's a shame that your poor daughters have to see how rude and ignorant their mother is"!!!

Doesn't that just stoop to her level though? Plus, it's much more likely to make the little girls feel bad, not the rude mother.

For the most part Disney is very good about this. While I was waiting for Jack Sparrow at MNSSHP (before the party had started, of course, I'm a DISer!) a little girl came up to the front of the line and said her mom was in a wheelchair and needed to cut to the front of the line. She handed over a GAC. The attendant turned them down and said they would need to wait in the character line. Two ladies ahead of us were waiting as normal on their scooters.

Even though we lined up a full 20 minutes before Jack was due out, there were line attendants and ropes already up. I do think Disney, for most character lines, keeps things well organized and fair. No they don't have eyes everywhere.

I myself am the "skip them right back!" mentality. But I'm usually with my sister and she is very anti-confrontation. She thinks that being a rude person is its own punishment, and she'd rather wait a little longer and not let it bother her. But I am very competitive and sort of a stickler for rules, so this clashes. I will sit and stew over being skipped, and it's hard for me to get over it-- meanwhile, a confrontation where I emerge the victor (ie not getting skipped) is what I need to happen to easily move on.

I did consider the walking around and lining up in front of them again, but then I would have been in the area where Aladdin and Jasmine were to stand...she with her large double stroller, two daughters, her mother and herself were taking up a LOT of space...I think it was on purpose.

Also a note to those from before who mentioned getting the rest of the people to say something....I did try to get a couple people in line involved(mainly by commenting on what happened and how rude she was being) but they seemed to rather just comment to me about it than say anything to the lady. I told my husband next time I will go up and down the line and make sure everyone knows exactly what happened. There has to be someone else who would be as upset as we were! Although...I am hoping there won't be a next time....

I dislike line cutting and usually fall on the anti-line cutter side of these discussions. But I have to say if someone's response to a line cutter was to walk up and down the line making sure everyone else in line knew what happened in hopes of stirring up a united front, I would pull my children close and point that person out to the CM.

I understand where you are coming from, but all I meant was that if others would point out what she did, do you not think she might think twice next time? Honestly based on how she was with me, it probably wouldn't have affected her...she felt she was entitled to whatever she wanted. No one said anything about a "united front", this isn't a war. When she cut in line, it was not only us that she cut in front of. I just felt she knew she could "bully" and nothing would be done or said about it. Guess what she was right. And next time, whomever she does it to, she will probably be right then too especially if no one stands up to her.

Last night there was a woman sitting on the curb at DHS over by the corner of the main store and Holywood and Vine. Smoking. It always irritates me to no end that the no smoking rules never seem to be enforced - but being in a wc now I am on the same level with my dd - I looked at the woman - probably with not a nice look on my face and she blew smoke directly in DD's face. The kid is 5! I was so mad - I told dd to hold her breath - some woman I front of me whippe her head around and I expected her to say something to me about my comment but she looked right at me and slowly grinned. I'm guessing she didn't like the smoke that couldn't be avoided either.

So yeah - I'd take line cutting self indulgent. Really I hope you didn't let the witch ruin your day. People feel so entitled these days.

I can hold my patience for the most part. I can roll-with-it, countdown-backward-from-100, mentally remove myself from irritating situations with morons.

But THIS crosses a SERIOUS line IMO!!!! This isn't just an issue of rudeness, but more like a physical attack on a 5-yr old's lungs. I would NOT have been able to stay quiet or kind if this had been me. KUDOS to you for keeping your cool, I might've been arrested if it had been my DD.

(Also, I'm a reformed smoker who quit almost 7 years ago & DH is still an active smoker so I'm not coming from an anti-smoker POV. I could never, ever imagine being so rude to another person intentionally.)

So who saw this episode of "The Middle"? Frankie gets cut off in line by a big group of cheerleaders then when she tries to cut back in front of them gets called out and sent to the back of the line.

We had an issue at MVMCP with the Dwarf line when they were still in the skyway location. About 10 people had been in line fo 45 minutes when 5 or 6 people start another line. So I just went over and pointed out that if they were there for the dwarfs, the line had already started over there. And oh MY! I have never seen someone explode the way this one man did. Wanted to know who had put me in charge of the park, yadda, yadda, yadda. Instead of getting in line though, they just disappeared. Whatever. That was the coldest night of 2010 and we had braved the outdoor temps too long to have someone just decide they could just cut.

Sometimes you have to be rude right back to people. I can't stand people who think they are entitled to everything. AARRGGHH!!! I always speak up and stand my ground from line cutters, cheaters, chair hogs, holding 20 seats, etc. ARE YOU SERIOUS!! Not on my watch. I know sometimes it causes a scene but I can't take the craziness some people display. Usually a stern, "don't even think about it", deters them.

And to the smoker who blew smoke into my face or if I had kids face, she would have been eating that cigarette or watching it fly across the sidewalk. SERIOUSLY!!?!?!? That's beyond rude. And I'm allergic to cigarette smoke, which would have meant me going back to the room to take my meds to keep my reaction to a minimum. Yep, if I'm going to be inconvenienced so is she.

We had a similar experience at the Dwarves line a few weeks ago at a MNSSHP. It wasn't cold - it was hot. We were second in line and had been waiting a good hour or more by this time when 3 families, probably totaling around 15 people, decided that the area in front of us had a bit of shade and they would all just squeeze in there. I was spared the duty of pointing out where the end of the line was, which by this stage was not even visible from where we were, by the couple in front of us who directed them to the correct end of the line for late comers. What a protest! They have kids, blah blah blah ..... well yeah, most everyone in this line does! It became entertaining as they sort of moved by went ahead of the folk in the very front so they were standing not in line, but in front of the line, and their kids climbing all over the props of jewels set out for the Dwarves. One of the parents stood there and half heartedly repeated "Get away there. Come on now. Please don't climb on there ......" Oh please! With that lack of authority no wonder the kids are walking all over you! I loudly commented how amusing it was that a parent was rendered helpless in controlling a 3 year old when all that needs to be done is to walk up, pick the child up and remove them. Enough said, they got the message and moved on

We have only ever had the occasional expereince with line cutters at WDW. Yes, it happens and sometimes it is genuinely unintentional where people just aren't paying attention but this year was something else

We have only been to WDW once in August 2011, and during that 14 days we encountered no rudeness, line cutting or anything like what has been described on this thread, thankfully! Sounds appalling what has happened to you all, but everyone we encountered was extremely polite and curteous, I am very pleased to say.

If we encountered rudeness and CMs not enforcing rules (especially the smoking one!) I just don't think we'd be as keen to come back to WDW. We were blown away with the fantastic service and friendly CMs and guests, which is a huge factor in us personally wanting to come back.

I wouldn't want to spend 2 years saving up money, and looking forward to the trip (let alone spending so much money on a... twice in a lifetime trip- lol) only to be treated so rudely by fellow guests. And I think CMs should honestly enforce rules a little more than they seem to be doing in some events of this thread.

As for the incident involving the 5 YO having smoke puffed in her face, I would have been livid. How disgusting. If that happened to me, I think I'd have complained to CMs.

I think we are missing the point, rudeness has always been around, and i do not think people are whining about it more.....

I think whats really missing is PATIENCE.

If you read between the lines , almost all these stories deal with people not wanting to wait for anything.

We have done this to ourselves with our drive through's, steamed microwave meals, 15 minute prescription guarantees, on demand TV, 15 minute oil change, 2 day delivery, and gasp.....cell phones.

We get irritated if anything takes more than 15 minutes....i bet you got impatient waiting to get to the end of this post!!! LOL!

Everybody was behaving wonderfully and then the announcement came...and now GE proudly presents (i know GE dates me)... and then this family tries to get right in front of a row of kids. One dad beat me to the punch as he stood up, raised his voice and said...Ladies and Gentlemen...Please welcome the Butt family from somewhere that doesn't have any common sense then something about trying to get right in front of kids that have been waiting 45 minutes and that every one should take out their cameras, take a picture of them and let em know how you feel with a big long Booooo. I couldn't Boo because I was laughing so hard. The butters moved away as quick as they could. Would have bought the dad a beer later if it wasn't so crowded and late.

Maybe someone should leverage social media to expose line cutters to the other park-goers.

Or Disney could consider a version of "Magic, Memories, and You" that collected pictures/video of people cutting lines throughout the day and make it an end-of-the-day show for all to see.

Seriously, though, I agree with xipotec - patience seems to be in short supply in our culture these days. I guess I'll just use future experiences with rude people/line cutters as a way to help our daughters learn life lessons. It will take an extra effort on my part not to take the rudeness personally, but it will probably be worth it in the long run.
