Why does asparagus make your pee stink?

And on that same note, why does the Slim Fast Cappuccino make your pee stink as well?


I will say that my hubby and I each thought we had something wrong with ourselves until he got brave enough to ask if the Slim Fast did anything weird to me...what a relief! We both thought we were sick!!

But, seriously...what gives?!

My cousin is a doctor and I asked him this question . It is hard to get him to be serious outside of his office, so he just said "Why would you want to eat asparagus anyway?" Then he mentioned that it always stinks, but genetically not everyone can smell it. I know, this doesn't really answer your question. But now at least I am subscribed to this trhead and maybe I can find out too!

I looked after a pregnant woman, who was admitted to our maternity unit with abdominal pain. I was very concerned when she handed over her urine specimen, which looked heavily blood-stained, but also very puzzled when the lab informed us that there were no red blood cells in the sample.

It took one of our junior doctors to remember the beet thing. The mum-to-be had one serious craving for the stuff! Probably the cause of her heartburn as well.....
