Can I take the trolley case as hand luggage and the rucksack with the laptop in...?

I'm flying Virgin out of Gatwick.

I suspect not unless you are fortunate enough to by flying Upper Class ;)

You might be lucky and get away with it but it's probably worth packing these items in such a way that some things can be easily reallocated to be checked if they need to be.

Premium Economy & Economy

You are allowed to carry one piece of hand luggage onto the plane. This must be able to fit under the seat in front of you, which means it must not be larger than 23cm x 36cm x 56cm (9in x 14in x 22 in) and should not weigh more than 6kg (13lbs).

Wheelchairs, crutches, baby buggies and items necessary for baby care during the flight will be carried free over and above the baggage allowance. Baby buggies, carrying baskets and wheelchairs will normally be carried in the hold.

The UK Civil Aviation Authority requires all UK airlines to review and enforce their regulations regarding the acceptance and carriage of cabin (hand) baggage. We ask you to help us meet the regulations to make your flight more enjoyable. Space on any aircraft is at a premium and hand baggage should contain only items you require during the flight. There may be occasions when even having met size and weight limitations there is not enough room. In this event baggage will be checked and loaded in the hold. We ask for your understanding on those rare occasions.

The following items CANNOT be carried in your hand baggage:

Toy or replica guns (plastic or metal)
Catapults
Household cutlery
Knives with blades (of any length)
Paper knives
Razor blades
Tradesmen's tools
Darts
Scissors
Knitting needles
Sporting bats
Billiard, snooker, pool cues
Hypodermic syringes
If you have a medical reason that means you need to inject during the flight you are permitted to carry syringes in the cabin. But you might be asked to produce medical evidence such as a doctor’s letter when you check in or at security screening. The letter should be kept with you at all times.

I'm sure someone on here said you could carry your laptop and camera as well as your hand luggage.

Oh well - I'll take the rolling case (it is small enough to be deemed hand luggage and contains my wedding dress!) and give DH2b the laptop, just means we'll have to double that up as our overnight bag for twilight.

Thanks guys

I hope it all goes ok for you Rosiejo :)

In the past what you thought certainly used to be the case. I have flown a number of times with Virgin carrying both my rucksack and my camera equipment :)

I read the advice on the Virgin website before I replied to you though, Obi has now kindly also pasted into this thread, and it seems to have changed as no mention is made anymore about camera's or laptops when in the past I am certain it was :(

As I said in my previous post, you may be lucky or you may not be. It all depends on wha the staff are like on the day you fly.

Have a great time. :teeth:
