A lady was mean to my 4 year old today..

They do have those. If anyone wants to be child free they can choose to dine there instead of a restaurant that markets directly to children via free toys (a problem for a whole different thread).

There are also restaurants that allow children but the patrons are spread further apart so the chance of an interaction with a stranger, at least while eating, are much lower.

If you go to Biergarden at Epcot you will be sat with other families, if you don't want to do that don't go there. Simple.

Not any where I live. I haven't been to Biergardgen for that reason.

Wow! I didn't mean to post such a hot topic-old people, children, and puppy mills! This was the first time I'd ever had someone say something rude to my kids and thought I would share So let me clarify:

She did choose to sit next to us in an uncrowded McD's
I do teach my children right from wrong and don't expect everyone to think they are cute
I have no plans to buy from a pet store even though my son fell in love with a tiny chihuahau.
We were out shopping today but other than my credit card not working and having to put a cart full of groceries on hold, nothing else happened.

Sorry, just a question to clarify this in my mind. When you say this, did she actually share an individual table with you, a bench that goes the length of more than one table, or did she sit at the table next to yours? I am also befuddled by someone joining you at your table if that is the case?:confused3

You've never seen the TERM before, but you must have witnessed the deed!
Yes--but I can only think of one that was not a false alarm:lmao: Even that one, I strongly suspect, was back here under another name real soon (the posting style is just so unique I thought it WAS her for a while and then noticed a different user name, but joined just when the other poster took her toys and left:rolleyes1). Actually, I hope that one IS the person--I never really understood why she was upset enough to make a YAGE anyway:confused:

Glad to see you back OP:goodvibes. I am currently aligned with Team Codger becasue I like the way it sounds, but technically I maintain my intial position of thinking no one was really in the wrong (you, your son or the lady) Sorry 'bout the groceries. That must have been a hassle.

That's always been one of my greatest fears as I've sat there waiting for my purchases to clear on my credit card or bank card. I hope you were able to get everything straightened out with a minimum amount of pain.

And you don't expect everyone to think your kids are cute?! What kind of DIS parent are you? ;):lmao:

Once I went through the self checkout and used my debit card. Well the little voice announces everything "please swipe your debit card now" "please enter your pin code" etc so while I was waiting it announces for what I swear the whole entire store to hear "I'm sorry we are unable to process your payment, please select another method and try again". I was so embarrassed, I wanted to take out an ATM reciept and flash it to everyone just to prove that I could pay for my groceries. It turns out my bank was updating their computers and they weren't allowed to process any debit transactions for anyone for about 30 minutes. I imagine there were women out all over the place with ATM reciepts at the ready :rotfl:

Gosh, don't you hate it when people put their shopping cart of groceries on hold?

I was in the grocery store the other day. There was a woman who had literally everything I wanted in her grocery cart. I, of course, lingered around waiting for her to turn her back so I could take her cart and check out, my shopping complete in an instant.

Wouldn't you know it! She discovered she didn't have her credit card and asked one of the managers if they could hold her cart for her! They took it back where I did not have access to it, and I had to do my own shopping!

Really, OP, you are the limit! Now this thread will hit 600!

I will, however, dance for you.

ooohh, imagine how rude that would be. We could even get a whole new thread started if that was the case.

Wouldn't it be nice to have a chain of restaurants that banned children then those of us who don't want to chat to random 4 year olds can eat in peace.

:lmao:

There was an article in our local paper not too long about about the Italian Oven restaurant in Mt. Pleasant. The front room is for anyone, with or without kids, but they recently opened up a back room for just adults. They said it is becoming very popular.

Why don't other restaurants (not necessarily fast food ones) do this?

They can have smoking and non-smoking sections (I wish Michigan would go completely non-smoking but that's another topic) so why can't they have family/adult sections? :confused3

Well if that was the case, I would take back everything I said and be firmly on Team lil Poker. Somebody who sits down at a table with another family in an uncrowded restaurant deserves whatever poking or talking the have to endure. And I think at a minimum, she would certainly owe them her name. After all she's practically part of the family at that point!

Because people with special snowflakes that poop rainbows would protest.

We were seating on the long bench seating area. She sat in the 2 seater right next to ours-there was not much room between her and my son. I took the chair and he was on the bench, as was she.

Then she deserves what she got. :goodvibes Good to see you back OP. While I haven't posted much I have certainly enjoyed reading the debate. :rotfl:

Thanks for coming back OP.

In light of the recent info, I'd have to say that it sounds like one of those had to be there deals.

I would however use the experience as an educational opportunity for your son. Learning to read cues, disruptive behavior at restaurants, not everyone being friendly all the time for various reasons, etc. It's experiences like these that I actually hope I can be apart of with my dd and ds, so I can teach them why something did or did not happen and what to do in the future should a similar situation arise and I'm not there. Experience is the BEST teacher!

Thanks for starting this thread, it is very entertaining... (7 posts for me... hehe :rotfl:)

Now for the important question......

Who is it all about??!???

Welcome back by the way. :thumbsup2

Well now, while I've been entrenched on Team Codger, this doesn't sit well. I mean why would she choose to sit there? And if mobility was a big issue that she needed to take a close table wouldn't she choose the chair?

Really, why sit next to the kid if you don't want him to glance in your direction.

I was assuming (crap) that this was a booth and old lady and child were sitting back to back with each other.

No, I don't like this new development at all.....

Nope, sorry. Separate table=separate space. She deserved to be left alone. She wasn't forcing herself into their space, so they should have left her alone. Now I admit I don't like it when people come sit right next to me if a place isn't crowded, and I'd prefer that they didn't. I think people who do that are a little weird, actually. (Sort of like the people who sit rightnexttoyou in a movie theater with plenty of open seating.) I like my space! But I recognize that they have a right to sit where they want, and I have no claim over the table (or seat) next to mine. Neither did the OP and her child. With this info, and without knowing for sure if the lady used a hateful tone of voice, I'm definitely back in Team Codger.
