If you use PayPal, you are undoubtedly familiar with what they call "phishing,"
or, the sending out of fake e-mails trying to access your account info.

You know the ones.... "your security has been breached. You need to log in here to confirm your password" or words to that effect.

Before now, they have been easily identifiable by the fact that a REAL PayPal e-mail addresses you by name, and a phish e-mail usually addresses you by e-mail address ("Dear so-and-so @ yoohoo.com or whatever).

Tonight I got one that addresses me by name and tried to say I had made a nearly $400. purchase. There is a very prominent link on the page to "Dispute Transaction," which I hit before I got suspicious. Fortunately I never logged in on that site and they do not have my info. But they almost got me.

So if you use PayPal, beware of more advanced phishing.

Thanks for the heads up. Anytime I get an e-mail from paypal I always report it. I would rather be safe then sorry.

I just ignore them. I figure if my account stops working then I will know something real happened....LOL!

My 13 year old gets these e-mails all the time. Each time she gets one she freaks out...Mom, why is Paypal (E-bay) sneding me these, I don't have accounts. I keep telling her to just delete them..don't even open them. Yet every time she gets upset.

I hardly ever get them. My spam blocker must be working ok.

Ebay or Pay Pal will NEVER ask you for your password or sensitive info via an email or provide a link where you have to do so. They always tell you to logon to their website manually. If you think the email you recieved is the real thing but you are still uneasy, forward the entire email to spoof@paypal.com or spoof@ebay.com. They ALWAYS answer promptly and let you know if the email is real or not. Beware, as the scammers are getting quite clever!

bumping because since my original post I have received two more; one with my name, one not.

DH gets these all the time and it drives him wild. He always says "what should I do about this". I always say "delete it" and he hems and haws about them.
LOL.

I always just delete all of them without even opening them.

I got a wierd paypal e-mail about 2 months ago, funny how legit it did look! I reported it.
