A happy day for gays everywhere!

Congrats for all of you, I have family that are gay ,and we love them.(sister, stepsister, and 1 great aunt who loves disney always goes to gay days at disney, 2 cousin !) Some of the happiest and funniest people to hang around! Who knows maybe Florida will be next guys!!!:grouphug:

Unfortunatly I doubt that will happen any time soon. FL still has some of the most conservative laws when it comes to gay rights of any state (I think Michigan and Texas are the only 2 to have us beat), and if Amendment 2 passes in November, I think that puts us as one of the worst.

It's funny that Florida has some of the top gay tourist locations in the country (WDW and the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area), but is so anti-gay for the residents. I guess if you live here you don't spend enough money to keep the right-wingers happy :confused3

But back on topic, yay for CA!!!

WI passed the exact same amendment that is on your ballot this November. It will be a bloody fight to the death, but I think FL has a better chance of turning it down than WI ever did.

As far as MA residents and CA residents, from what I've read you are allowed to get married in MA if your home state does not have a law specifically banning same sex marriages. For instance, RI people can get married in MA and go back to RI and have it be valid even though they can not get married in RI itself. Therefore I believe CA residents would be able to get married in MA as well. My bf and I plan on having a ceremony in MA, but if the CA thing holds up, I say screw that, we're goin to Disneyland!

I think it's great! I am a hetrosexual female married to a man and I feel that EVERYONE (over the age of 18 of course) should have the right to marry whomever they want to! If two people are in love, who has the right to deny them the opportunity of a legal marriage with the same rights as a hetro married couple?? I ABSOLUTELY support gay/lesbian marriages! :goodvibes Good luck to all!

I noticed that nobody has posted on my side of the fence but I disagree with California's decision. I have homosexual and lesbian co-workers and friends that I believe are some of the best human beings that I have ever met but I do not agree with their lifestyle.

I just do not believe that God meant for two men or two women to come together when He created the instituion of marriage. I believe that he reserved the institution of marriage for a man and a woman. Now am I being hurt by gay couples being married? No. It just goes against what I believe is right and what I am trying to teach my 8 year old son.

I pray for all people to be happy and live in peace. But most of all I want our country to be one that pleases God. I hope nobody is offended by my opinion. Especially Pete and Kevin and the DIS Podcast team because I love what you guys do. :thumbsup2 I just had to give my opinion on this topic.

Everyone is entitled to their beliefs. You presented them without offense. However, I'd prefer that "god" is taken out of the decision-making process altogether. You may believe in a god if you like, but we have a practice in this country of separating church and state, and I think it should be fully adhered to. We also have a practice of equal rights, of which I feel the same.

I'd agree with Mindy here.

Even if you were to bring God into the conversation, who's God are we alking about? Yours? Mine? The folks down the street? The people on the other side of the world? The people with white skin? The ones with dark skin? The ones with red-skin? The ones that are straight? The ones that are gay? Not everybody has the same view of what God is. When you think about it, its really sad how many people are killed in the name of god.

My thoughts exactly Mindy!

I agree with the previous comments. Everyone should be allowed to believe what they want. Our country was founded not on religion, but the freedom of religion and to believe what you want. We all know this hasnt been the case many many time, witch burning etc., but in a time where people are being most acceptive and tolerant why should this be an issue. If my religion doesnt have a problem of people being gay, then the banning of same sex marriages is going against what I believe.

Religion shouldnt be conisdered in this issue at all. You dont talk about religion and politics at the dinner table, and you especially dont talk about them together! This issue is based in being intolerant and judging people for their lifestyles. Anyone can believe what they want and doesnt have to like how other people act, but it should still be accepted as their choice and someone elses views shouldnt be imposed on them. That being said, just because we allow gay people the rights as straight people it doesnt mean that the world is going to hell in a hand basket.

People have to realize that most of us have two marriages: one proclaimed by our church/belief system/etc to be a "marriage" and one which is conferred by the state for legal reasons, which is the "civil marriage". They are distinct. That's why you need (in most cases) a marriage license issued by the state. In the case of my marriage, we were also given a certificate declaring our sacramental marriage in the church.

To all those that think that God is against same sex marriage, you are free to have your beliefs. No one is making your church acknowledge it as licit according to your beliefs. However, the state is free to define it's civil marriage as what it wants also. And in the case of a civil marriage, religion should not be brought into it. My church is against same sex marriage as defined by what we believe that God teaches, but I can't honestly be against same sex civil marriage if I truly believe in a free society.

Since this is the podcast board, I don't want to see this turn into an all out religious debate. However, I would be remiss if I didn't correct something that I see and hear all too often.

Those opposed to gay marriage and/or homosexuality in general often state that God never intended to men to be with men, etc. Guess what? The Bible does not say that. If your Bible says that, it is because you are reading the Bible in ENGLISH. But was the Bible originally written in English? Of course not. The original languages are the ancient ones...Aramaic, Ancient Greek, etc.

And if you read the Bible in its UNTRANSLATED language, it says that God is opposed to "unnatural" sex. Nowhere does it define what "unnatural" sex is. So, we go back to the history of those times, and we see that what was considered "unnatural" or "taboo" sex were things like sex with prostitutes and sex with a woman during that "time of the month," etc. Those are the sex acts that were considered to be against the laws of God.

It was ENGLISH translators who, when converting the Bible to English, made the ASSUMPTION that "unnatural" sex must mean sex between two people of the same sex. :teacher:

One more point...since it was mentioned God the Father, and "He" I should also mention that in the ancient languages the word used for God was not "father"...the closest translation we have is "parent." Gender neutral.

Finally, if you are going to bring the Bible into it...what does it say is more important than all? "The greatest of these is Love." NOT "love between two people of opposite sex." Just love.

Peace.

Totally agree, you really rock at this :yay:

I guess if your going to get on that topic about what is biologically right and wrong, then everyone should know that many many animals in nature have gay relationships and some may mate with members of the opposite sex every now and then, they still are partnered with another animal of the same sex. How can you get more natural than what is in nature?

I have been going back and forth as to whether or not I should jump into the conversation.

I am thrilled to say that many of you have written far more eloquently than I could or would have...and for this,,,,I offer my heartfelt thanks.

Kevin

How about first cousins? How about letting a man have multiple wives? Or, how about letting a woman have multiple husbands? This may seem extreme, however, it is reasonable to bring these up in the context of the above statement. There could be a slippery slope.

Again, I come in peace. I don't support the homosexual lifestyle/agenda. HOWEVER, I am in no position to pass judgement on ANYONE...and I won't. I'm a sinner saved by the Grace of a God who loves me and ALL His children!

No one is asking you to support a lifestyle/agenda.

I'm always curious as to why people who use that phrase assume that they live a life, yet I am assumed to have a lifestyle/agenda.

I'm not asking you to support anything other than what I consider to be equal rights.

If you were to become ill....would you want YOUR lifestyle/agenda partner to be able to make crucial health care descisions for you? Me too.

If you were to pass away unexpectedly, would you want YOUR lifestyle/agenda partner to inherit the home you had built together? Me too.

Do you and YOUR lifestyle/agenda partner receive the financial benefits of filing joint income tax returns? I want that too.

You can replace the word partner with husband or wife but it doesnt change the fact that we want the same things.

And whether you support my lifestyle/agenda or not...it still goes on.

We've been together 7 years in September and built what I consider to be a beautiful life together. We live and work and play together. We take care of our aging parents. We pay taxes. We are part of the community.

I guess I need to ask...how will us having the same basic rights that you do, affect you?

Whether the archaic laws are changed or not.....we are still your family....your neighbors.....your friends...your coworkers....and we arent going anywhere.

All we are asking for is equality and for the life of me.....I truly can not understand how you can be against that.

Kevin

I really don't get it when people doesn't understand all types of love, I mean what's the problem? Does someone gets hurt if a man loves another man or if a woman loves another woman?? I mean is not like they are killing someone... it's none sense..I am not homosexual and I don't see nothing WRONG about being "gay" .
With all the things going on on this world: Pornography, kidnapping kids, killing, teenagers killing other teenagers.... we worry about someone having a relationship with someone of the same sex? I don't know I think is beautiful to know that in this world there is still love... and that sometimes we can forget hate. I just want to say to all types and forms of couples... married or not married, with kids or no kids, homosexual or not, young or old... to keep going on even if this society keeps getting obstacles to the beautiful things of this earth.
Ps. I am sorry if my english is not very good, as you see I am Italian.

I wish ALL the states would follow Cali's lead.

:thumbsup2

The courts may have overturned the initial decision because the law was written poorly and unconstitutional, but theres nothing that says people in california are more tolerant and liberal about decisions like this. Before it was even overturned there were petitions to get it on the ballot in November. They will try and rewrite the law so that there are no loopholes. There may be many people for same sex marriages, but I think there are many many radical conservatives in certain areas of California and that may sway this vote.

Im only upset that I will be in florida from august to January and will be missing my chance to vote on very important issues like this one.:headache:

Your wrong! The Bible defines it in Leviticus Chapter 20. It is very clear in the Greek, Hebrew, and modern day translations.:teacher: I'm done. I really did not want to get into a debate I was just stating my opinion. God bless all of you and enjoy your future trips to Disney. I sure will!:disrocks: ::MickeyMo
