A Halloween Adventure in Autism (11/7) Prayer Request for Catie (p.129)

Agggggg, your post reminded me why we don't do parades :scared: Sounds like once it got started though, you all enjoyed it!

Sorry about the rude lady at the parade! :headache:

Just in case we decide to catch the DHS parade (I'm actually considering it after seeing your pictures), we'll sit on the stairs at American Idol - feet on the bottom step! :thumbsup2

“The lady asked if we could move over so they could sit down, so we did,” Tricia answered.

Oh, why do people think they can show up 5 minutes before the show/parade and expect others to give up their seats to them? It annoys me, too, Kathy! :headache:

but before I could finish Tricia began to cry big, fat teenage-girl tears. “Why are you two so upset with me?” she wailed.

Oh, the pain! The drama! Sooo appropriate for Hollywood Studios!

Oh, yes, as the mother of a 14 and a 16 year old girls, I know all about the drama!

Supervisor CM brusquely insisted that no one could sit on the wall because of safety issues.

Well, it sounds like they needed to get their stories straight. Too bad you didn't know all that before you sat there for 30 minutes!

Uhmmmmmmm, I'm afraid this is what my thighs are going to look like, if I don't lay off the butter pecan ice cream!

Enjoyed your update, Kathy! :)

Yes... I've been waffling between June 2011 and December 2011 for several weeks now and have finally come to a decision...

June is the winner!!

* It will be less crowded... so much better for Billy!
* It "costs" fewer DVC pts, so we can stay nine nights instead of seven.
* Warmer weather means there will be more of a chance the kids will get to use the pool.

Three thumbs WAY UP!!! :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

And.... I just trimmed SIX MONTHS off of my countdown!!!

You may now congratulate me.....

Kathy

That will make a trip in Feb or June of 2012 less painful with more time between trips:thumbsup2

Nice update. :)
Glad Billy enjoyed it.
The second step up looks like a prime viewing spot.

We will only be able to run in Hollywood Studios for a very few minutes on the Mother's Day trip - just long enough to visit with Bo and have him send a message to Chelsea. Maybe we can arrange to go when Block Party Bash is coming out and at least see it before we leave. Brooklynn loves it, and she doesn't care which part we're sitting at, so we can stay toward the front of the park and get on out as soon as it is over.

Great update, love the pics from the parade. We haven't seen that one yet but will now definitely put it on our "must-see" list as my youngest dd LOVES Monsters Inc. (We have just planned a trip for Presidents Week 2011 but haven't told the kids yet, shhhhh!!)

I appreciate the honesty in your writing, it makes it so real as every family has gone through angst filled moments like yours!

Kathy, I don't know what it is with that parade because we had a bad experience too back in 2008. We were standing right around the Brown Derby area under some trees right behind a small ledge that we can lean on - not the best spot but it was in the shade.

Anyway, about 5 minutes into the parade - a non-English speaking woman (or so she pretended) came up with her buddies, and put her daughter (who must've been around 4ish) right in front of me on top of the ledge. I looked at her like she was crazy and told her she could not do that - I MEAN REALLY?!? This little girl's butt was right in mine and my kids faces. She quickly took her down and mumbled something in her language at me. My dh was so mad!

So yes, people are rude and unbelievable and I was not interested in seeing that parade again last year. It's my least favorite of all of them.

Kathy - great update! I very much appreciate the "real-ness" to your reports as well! :thumbsup2 So thank you!

Parade seat jumpers really irk me too! Some people are just so inconsiderate!

Your "Oh, the pain! The drama! Sooo appropriate for Hollywood Studios!" line had me cracking up! :rotfl: This park has that effect on my Michael for some reason too! But he's only 9!

The parade is a fun one, isn't it? I still miss the cars rolling by of the old parade but this one is very lively and you can't help but smile! :goodvibes

This is why I don't do afternoon parades. When I'm hot and grumpy it takes a lot to perk me back up! ;) And I can't stand not having anywhere to sit.

Like I mentioned earlier, we sat in the same place last spring. However, the CM we had talked to about the parade route before we chose a spot told us we could not sit on the wall during the parade, so we were well aware. I'm sorry you were given conflicting information....that's so frustrating! We just sat there until close to parade time then stood behind the wall to watch. The good thing about it was that no one could stand in front of us! Parade jumpers are annoying.

I'm glad you were able to enjoy the parade after all of that! :thumbsup2 It really is a fun one!

The wheels are always turning in that Disney-crazed brain of yours, huh?! ;)

Too bad there isn't an elevated area at the front... like the RR Station at MK... or that Bo doesn't have real shoulders for Brooklynn!!

Congratulations on your upcoming trip!

If DD loves Monsters Inc then you should definitely sit on the American Idol steps, closer to The Hat. The Monsters float stops there. :thumbsup2

I"m not a big parade lover, and this one is the LEAST appealing to me of them all. Regardless, my favorite, or least favorite, I just am always so amazed at how inexusably rude people can be. It's such a "duh" thing to me... :confused3 Ummm... no, you can't stand right in front of me. Then I wouldn't be able to see. It's something a 2 year old can get.

Its easy to forget that most people don't research and plan... dare I say obsess over their park touring plans the way we do. I think that many people stumble onto the parade and try to squeeze in wherever they think they can... unfortunately some of them can be clueless as to the etiquette of the situation.

I do think it was an awesome parade, though, and I'm glad we got to see it.

I do miss the Muppets!!

 If I had to sit on the ground for fifty minutes, I don't think I could've been able to get up!!

I think that's the part that annoyed Ed the most... the conflicting info. By the time we realized we couldn't sit it was too late to move!

Definitely a fun parade!

I have to admit that I was smirking a bit when the woman and her kids had to get up from the spot they "acquired" from the girls! ;) Is it wrong to say it made me feel better??

Now that we've seen this one it will definitely move from our "must-see" list to our "maybe" list. It was fun, though, especially for Billy.

Oh great... another parade I need to figure out how to get in. Aileen will never be napping in her room this year!

My boys would absolutely love this!

Definitely! Such great characters... the acrobats and scooters... the dancing and singing! It really is less like a parade and more like a rolling party!

Yes!

There are soo many DIS folks, I'd love to meet. You and Tracy are two of those folks.....can't wait for that day.

Me 2 U!
