You asked for it.

#1 kids over 5 do not need to be in a stroller. It's just lazy parents who don't want to deal with their kids who put them in strollers to make them happy. Heaven forbid it ruin mom and dads plans for the day.

#2 ADD ADHD are not even noticeable to anyone who meets the child. So for you to announce it means that YOU are just looking for attention and want someone to take pitty for you hard ship.

#3 ADD ADHD is just another invented illness for the MD's of the world to cover up for a kid being a kid. Kids are by nature dreamers and have lots of energy.

I am glad you are proud of your children, as am I of mine. Get overyurslef and stop taking things so personally.

I personally believe EVERYONE should put their disabilites (aka special needs) in their sig line. Yours can say "Attention-seeking trouble maker".
If you don't like that, how about "self-righteous trouble-maker"? That would fit quite well.

I also think people should list their prominant hobbies. Yours can be "questioning and insulting other people's parenting choices."

About strollers and lazy parents. I occassionally put my child in a stroller so I can walk several miles (4-10) and get my exercise that way. Not sure if walking 4-10 miles can be called lazy.

The whole anti-stroller thing is crazy.

It is horrible to put an older child in a stroller at Disney World...because they should be walking and getting their exercise. By letting an older kid sit in a stroller, we're contributing to childhood obesity. It's selfish. Lazy!

Well, then shouldn't we also stop driving? Isn't that lazy? Wouldn't it be healthier if we stopped driving to the grocery store and walked there instead? Isn't it selfish and lazy that we allow our kids to sit in a car to get to school. Shouldn't we make them walk the 10 miles instead?

When my son was 4, we took him to NYC. We walked the whole time there. (except for a trip to Coney Island). We did no taxis, no subways, no buses. We walked about 5-10 miles a day.

A complete stranger said to DS on elevator. "You're too big for a stroller."

I was kind of shocked speechless. But if I could go back in time, this is what I'd say:

"A) he is NOT too big. He's about 10 pounds under the weight capacity."
B) If we didn't use this stroller, we'd be having to take subways, cabs, or buses. Our child would be sitting anyway. So, what's the difference? Oh yeah. We'd have to pay the MTA or cab fare."

As for Disney World, yes children need exercise. They should walk, run, dance, spin around, etc. But Disney World involves SEVERAL miles of walking a day. Pretty impossible for most children. It's not really a choice between being lazy parents who allow their children to become obese because they bring the stroller vs. parents who promote healthy young bodies by making their kids walk everywhere.

It's a choice between parents pushing a stroller at the end of the day or parents carrying a 30-50 pound child at the end of the day.

All this being said....we're going to try DW without a stroller for the first time in December. Not because we think he is too old. But in September we went and I found my son was more willing to walk long distances than he had previously. I enjoyed our time better when we did not use the stroller because it was easier for me to talk to him. BUT...we'll see how it goes. I might totally regret the decision.

We are planning to bring the stroller to our next NYC trip. Honestly...I'm going to continue to use the stroller in NYC until DS gets too big and breaks the thing.

First of all, the Got Quattro, the question you posed is not related to the topic at hand. If you really felt that strongly about it, a private message would have sufficed.

Get this back on topic, because I really don't want to have to close it. The topic is: reccomendations for good, inexpensive strollers for older kids.

Keep your opinions about whether or not older kids SHOULD be in a stroller for a thread asking that question. (Which by the way is appropriate fodder for the community board - NOT the theme parks board)

Her siggy says her daughter is 4; not over 5 so #1 should be disregarded.

#2 and #3 are in direct contradiction to each other. If it's an "invented" illness, how can it not be noticeable?

And as for her asking for it? In what way did she EVER ask for your opinion? If you have nothing to contribute to the thread, why bother posting at all? To up your post count??

To the OP, I agree with others about the Jeep stroller. I'm planning on purchasing one when we take my niece there in June. She's only 3, but is about 50lbs (naturally big child). We test drive the Jeep one and found it to be soooo easy to turn on a dime and such.

I had to push my nephew in one of the rented ones last June and I'll say this...I will never be mad at a mom who bumps into me ever again lol. Those things are impossible to deal with and your arms feel like they've been pulled outta the sockets by the end of the day.

Why do you have all of your resort-stays and trips listed in your signature? Are you seeking attention? Are you letting everyone out there know your travel choices so that they can say "oh, look at him, he's da' man?? Give me a break!

Are you that insecure? Does it really T you off at the thought that someone, somewhere, may possibly get a little attention? What a shame that you have to be jealous of someone else's problems. Whether or not her children ride in strollers, or have a diagnosis, has no bearing on your life. It's a pity that you are more worried that someone may get something you don't have - grow up!

I know we're all passionate about our opinions, but it needs to stop now, folks.

This is warning #2.

Please drop this discussion.

We are also doing three days in Tampa on our trip, so the $16 for a stroller rental would be better spent on buying a stroller for the trip.

Thanks for the thread. I need the suggestions. I will probably just get whatever umbrella is available though.

Why would you call out all your childrens problems / illness in you sig?

What difference does it make? Do you expect to be treated different because of this.

Not picking a fight...just curious.

Why would you ask something so rude?

What difference does it make to you? Why are you concerned or even care someone *might* be treated differently from you? Do you feel that inferior in life?

Yes, I am picking a fight....not hiding under the guise of being "curious". :stir:

People who pick on moms and/or their children (especially ones will illness or disabilities) do not bode well with me. :furious:

Dan - I will say in advance I am sorry for my post. I know I should have took it to PM but personally I feel in this instance it needed to be called out in public.

The posts from "Got Quattro?'" in this thread were demeaning, uncalled for and nasty in purpose despite the poor attempt at making it look otherwise.

When you remove them (and you should) please remove mine as well as I know it is pushing the propriety limit.

First off what's wrong with being lazy and why do you care if someone is (not saying OP is)? Second, what if she is looking for attention- what's wrong with that (not saying she is)? Thirdly, why would you care if others want to medicate their kids? Lastly, take your own advice- "I am glad you are proud of your children, as am I of mine. Get overyurslef and stop taking things so personally."

ETA: My DS and I have ADD.....and I'm going to add that to my siggie right now.

ETA: Quattro- from the Italian word for "four"; a play on being one step ahead of "1-2-3"

Personnaly, I would say you are behind- the times. :wave2:

I've been a Disboard member for a *long* time and I have to ask myself - yet again - why the moderators let such an inflammatory and off-topic response to a question stay on the thread. Then eventually shut down the thread. The OP asked a legit question - the thread doesn't need to be locked - it needs to be CLEANED.

I cannot believe how long the moderators let threads like this go - until they have lost the meaning of the original question. Will you either bring back the debate board or not less this continue. I basically do not even bother reading or posting to most boards here any more (and there are many like me) because of how much OT mud-slinging is tolerated. :sad2:

FRIENDLIEST Disney community???? it has not been that way for a long time - only on boards where the mods take care of stuff like this.

:furious: You may be the Moderator, but locking this thread would be wrong! Most moderators on these boards would simply have removed HIS POSTS - he came here and deliberately provoked the responses he received. Why be politically correct and close the whole thread? Do a search on all of his posts and you will see he has a history of doing this.

Do what is right and delete HIS posts. :furious:

Ladies and gentleman - third warning.

Next time, I will simply delete the thread and the OP may start a new one.

If you'd like to know why it can't be cleaned - it's because it would take too long to delete and/or edit all of the responses that quote what is being found offensive.

Get it back on track, or I will delete the thread.

Just thought i would chime in.......

I always wished that there was stroller big enough for my 13yr old, who is 110 pounds, thats that right 13 and 110 pounds ........but he has a right club foot(which you cant see) he can only walk for short distances at a time until his leg gives out, but we do get a wheelchair but can be a pain to drive the wheelchair and hold your stuff.

Boy would we get the looks with a 13 ys old in a stroller :rotfl:

I'm not sure what kind of weight limits they have, but of the strollers we've had for our 4 kids, the one we liked the most was the Graco Literider. I just looked it up and it's $60 at Target. It's a stroller that reclines, has a canopy, and has a good size basket underneath. But it's lighter and much easier to push than a lot of other full-size reclining strollers. It's really a good compromise between the features of a large stroller and the light weight of an umbrella. Last year at WDW, we used it for our 5 yr old (she's small for a 5 yr old) and we had enough room in the basket for a bunch of bottled water, a very full backpack, and several sweatshirts.

It looks like it has a listed weight limit of 40 lbs and our 5 yr old dd was probably about 35 lbs.

Just thought I'd add that on our last visit, after a VERY long day including an MGM EMH, afternoon at AK, and evening MK EMH, when all the non-EMH'ers left after Wishes, there were a ton of strollers just abandoned. We borrowed one (double) for the last couple hours and my 9 year old rode in in the entire time, and his 11 and 12 year old brothers took turns riding in it with him. Not trying to provoke the "what age is too old" thread again, just leading to the point...

That if you decide not to get one, the park strollers are definitely a viable option. I was astounded that I could push 175 pounds or so of kid easily - even one of my older kids could push the other two. We'd always brought our own stroller when they were younger, and I never realized how much easier the Disney ones were to manuever and push. Rather than buy a $100 stroller that you don't plan on using again, I'd consider this option. But do agree that a basic umbrella one works fine for very little money - I'd try to get one of the slightly more expensive ones ($40 or so) that have the basket underneath to store jackets, a small cooler, etc.

we use either a stroller from toys r us or my nieces wheelchair for the parks (the wheelchair is designed for her but is very heavy) not an expensive one

oh and my niece is 13, 70lb, but only the height of a 5 year old, we get some very nasty comments when using the stroller, but hey she has down syndrome, and twisted hips so cant do the walking she would love to do. and its better shes happy than in pain

original poster be proud of your kids!! and ignore everything else.

While I was there i actually saw a father pushing a stoller and the kid in it had dark hair on his legs. The kid looked about 13 or 14.

OOOOOOOHHHHH here we go....

You could not be any more illinformed.

My 6 year old needs a stroller at disney for his epilepsy. When you can cure it you then have the right to make the #1 kids over 5 do not need to be in a stroller. It's just lazy parents who don't want to deal with their kids who put them in strollers to make them happy. Heaven forbid it ruin mom and dads plans for the day. statement. I don't have to explain myself but I am going to explain anyway so maybe this can help someone else. My sons neurologist told us to stay in the enviornment that the seizure happened in so that when he snaps out of it he will not get depressed over his condition. He will not be upset for missing out. Having the stroller helps him recover and have a place that he can relax. If the seizure is severe enough it helps us get him back to the room safely. Of course in your opinion that makes us lazy right?

Where do you get the info on add/adhd? Now while my son does not have it I sit on committee for special ed in my district and I can assure you this is not another invented illness for the MD's of the world to cover up for a kid being a kid. Children struggle severely with this and this attitude prevents them from getting the help they need. Not all children learn the same way and need accomodations for that. If help is not given or better yet looked upon as being an excuse these children fall through the cracks ending up in trouble in the long run.

So please save the blanket statements and get over yourself!

A little expensive but it goes to 140 lbs. And insurance will cover it in some situations. You son's foot should qualify him for it. Good luck. We have this for Chris and it weighs 16 lbs and folds to nothing! It is GREAT!
