You asked for it.
#1 kids over 5 do not need to be in a stroller. It's just lazy parents who don't want to deal with their kids who put them in strollers to make them happy. Heaven forbid it ruin mom and dads plans for the day.
#2 ADD ADHD are not even noticeable to anyone who meets the child. So for you to announce it means that YOU are just looking for attention and want someone to take pitty for you hard ship.
#3 ADD ADHD is just another invented illness for the MD's of the world to cover up for a kid being a kid. Kids are by nature dreamers and have lots of energy.
I am glad you are proud of your children, as am I of mine. Get overyurslef and stop taking things so personally.
I personally believe EVERYONE should put their disabilites (aka special needs) in their sig line. Yours can say "Attention-seeking trouble maker".
If you don't like that, how about "self-righteous trouble-maker"? That would fit quite well.
I also think people should list their prominant hobbies. Yours can be "questioning and insulting other people's parenting choices."
About strollers and lazy parents. I occassionally put my child in a stroller so I can walk several miles (4-10) and get my exercise that way. Not sure if walking 4-10 miles can be called lazy.
The whole anti-stroller thing is crazy.
It is horrible to put an older child in a stroller at Disney World...because they should be walking and getting their exercise. By letting an older kid sit in a stroller, we're contributing to childhood obesity. It's selfish. Lazy!
Well, then shouldn't we also stop driving? Isn't that lazy? Wouldn't it be healthier if we stopped driving to the grocery store and walked there instead? Isn't it selfish and lazy that we allow our kids to sit in a car to get to school. Shouldn't we make them walk the 10 miles instead?
When my son was 4, we took him to NYC. We walked the whole time there. (except for a trip to Coney Island). We did no taxis, no subways, no buses. We walked about 5-10 miles a day.
A complete stranger said to DS on elevator. "You're too big for a stroller."
I was kind of shocked speechless. But if I could go back in time, this is what I'd say:
"A) he is NOT too big. He's about 10 pounds under the weight capacity."
B) If we didn't use this stroller, we'd be having to take subways, cabs, or buses. Our child would be sitting anyway. So, what's the difference? Oh yeah. We'd have to pay the MTA or cab fare."
As for Disney World, yes children need exercise. They should walk, run, dance, spin around, etc. But Disney World involves SEVERAL miles of walking a day. Pretty impossible for most children. It's not really a choice between being lazy parents who allow their children to become obese because they bring the stroller vs. parents who promote healthy young bodies by making their kids walk everywhere.
It's a choice between parents pushing a stroller at the end of the day or parents carrying a 30-50 pound child at the end of the day.
All this being said....we're going to try DW without a stroller for the first time in December. Not because we think he is too old. But in September we went and I found my son was more willing to walk long distances than he had previously. I enjoyed our time better when we did not use the stroller because it was easier for me to talk to him. BUT...we'll see how it goes. I might totally regret the decision.
We are planning to bring the stroller to our next NYC trip. Honestly...I'm going to continue to use the stroller in NYC until DS gets too big and breaks the thing.
