A Gem of a trip-quality, clarity, color and "Cut that out!" completed 8/4

I love penguins. Sorry there's no pic of you with them. I once kissed a seal...not at Sea World though.

My bet is on you losing Eeyore.

I imagine that was a "wet" kiss.

My vote is for Jedi!!!

So one vote for Eeoyre and one for Jedi.

cute pics with the penguin.

sorry you did not get one.

Me too! Poppa and I were both taking pictures hence the different angles and when I went to pat the penguin, the other penguins in the pen did something funny and everyone was looking at them.

I think we went shopping on a Thursday :confused3:

I'm sorry the tour wasn't all that and I bet your DH was pleased you had the DDP after spending that much on some snacks :rotfl:

The tour was okay- I think I just timed it wrong. We should have explored the park first and then had the tour at the end of the day. Of course I figured we would have been there on time and already done an hour of exploring.

However, when anyone asked the kids what they did over the summer they don't answer "I went to Disney". They all say "I touched a penguin" as their opening line. So I guess that says they were psyched to do it.

After leaving the polar exhibit behind we came across Shamu’s Play Place. It was empty. Much as I wanted to get one of the shows I was not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. The playground was next.

Now if you haven’t been to Sea World let me set the scene for you. The Play place is roped off but there are two entrances. So a child can escape at either entrance. It is big enough that you really can’t see one entrance when you are standing at another. Towards one entrance there are a few carnival rides like a merry-go-round (fish themed of course) and some spinning rides and kiddy coasters. The other entrance has a playground with water that spits out of it. On top of this whole area is a netted play area with some slides. This above ground play area has more than one level so it is hard to see your child once they pass that bottom level and as an added freak your parents out non-security feature it has a few exits and entrances so that your parents never know where you are coming down.

We diamonds started with the merry-go-round.

After we took the obligatory sitting on the fishes pictures I took off in search of some food. Eeoyre deciding that being almost 10 years old was too mature to play in the playground came with me. Personally I think it was just that since he only does merry-go-rounds he had nothing left to go on so he choose to help out his mama. Either way I was glad for the company. I left the other two kids in Dh’s and Poppa’s capable hands. I noticed Poppa walking over to a kiddie coaster with Cindy and Dh sitting at a picnic table in the center of the area with Jedi. Jedi looked like he was starting one of his meltdowns. Glad I was escaping. But I knew I needed to get some substance into him as it was time to feed them again.

While we were buying French fries and watermelon to tie us over until our 2:15 lunch when the current Believe show let out. I had thought Sea World was kind of empty up until this point. Boy was I wrong. Talk about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. We were at one of the closest food stands to the stadium and within moments the lineup wrapped around the food kiosk.

As I said in my last chapter we lost someone. Now, it couldn’t be Eeoyre because he was with me. At the food stand. Fully engrossed in his preteen boredom glare which takes all his energy as he is still new at it. Besides Eeoyre has never left any adult guardians sight. He’s more afraid to lose them than they are of losing him. We’re more apt to knock him down than actually lose him. Too full of anxiety for his own good, crowds throw him into overdrive with bulging eyeballs, an open mouth and a heart pounding so hard in his chest you can practically make out the shape of it against his clothing.

So I don’t worry about him as I pay for our snacks.

I don’t worry about him as I grab my tray and move through the crowd to get some napkins.

I don’t worry about him as I search through the cutlery. I need some forks for the watermelon and I notice they only have spoons out. I’ll just get Eeoyre to hold on to this tray as I make my way back to the counter to ask for some.

Wait! Where was Eeoyre? He’s always by my side. I never have to watch the kid.

I scan the crowd for his hat. I try to remember what he was clothes he was wearing today.

My heart is up in my throat and I can’t swallow.

My Eeoyre. My baby. Where is he?

“Ma’am, excuse me?”

I look over at a Grandmotherly type who points towards the picnic tables Dh and Jedi were sitting at.

“If you’re looking for your daughter, she walked that way”

Relief swept over my body.

“Thank you very much” I smile at her as I hurry over to the table. Screw the forks. They’ll have to eat with their hands.

Eeoyre often gets mistaken for a girl with his longer hair and we’re all used to it.

When I get to the table, I give Eeoyre the you-shouldn’t-be-leaving-without-telling-anyone-about-it speech. Probably for the first in his lifetime. He nodded dutifully.

Then we rounded up the troops for snacks.

It was easy to find Poppa and Cindy. They spotted me with the tray and came running.

“Where’s Jedi?” I asked Dh.

“I don’t know” he replied. “He took off after you and Eeoyre”.

For the second time in as many minutes my heart jumped up into my throat. I felt sick.

“He did not. I had Eeoyre and you had Jedi. He was not with me at the snack stand. Eeoyre did you see him while we were there?”

“Nope.”

Oh my God. Oh my God. Oh my God.

Where is my baby?

Why are Dh and Poppa just sitting here eating when we can’t find my baby?

I yell at Dh to cover the entrance we came in from and circle back around the outside to the table. I tell him I’m going to the other entrance and will circle the opposite direction. Poppa is to stay put with the other kids.

I scan the crowd everywhere looking for him. I’m on adrenaline overdrive. I have to focus to remember what he was wearing. He didn’t have his hat on when I last saw him at the picnic table.

Where would he most likely be? Could someone have taken him? I fly frantically from area to area hoping against hope to find him safe.

Seconds seem like hours. My throat is thick with worry. It’s hard to swallow. I keep checking each group of people of I see. The playground is much busier now with the crowd from the last Shamu show.

I run up to the staff at the entrance. I tell him I can’t find my 6 year old and quickly ask what the policy is. He says he will radio his supervisor. But first he has to get his radio.

UGH!!

I continue on my circle search while he looks for his radio. I head back to the table. No sign of him yet Poppa says.

Eeoyre wants to search too. I tell him to go up into the netted above ground playground since I can’t. He apparently doesn’t want to help search that much. He’s too scared.

Cindy says she will go. So Eeoyre is given the job of looking after the table and staying put.

“Do not leave for any reason. Do you understand me?”

“Yes Mom”

Cindy starts to climb the netting and Poppa goes over to the ladders to wait for her to come down.

Dh is back too. Without Jedi.

I want to cry. I want to yell. Fear from deep inside engulfs me.

Where is my baby?

I head back to the staff who has finally found his radio. He’s talking to his boss who is heading our way. There will be forms to fill out he tells me. Forms? I think. I don’t want forms. I want people to shut down the place and search for my baby.

My beautiful blue eyed, crazy hair, silly smiling 6 year-old boy. How could I have lost him? I’d give anything just to have him in my arms again.

The tears begin to flow as I try to form words to answer the questions from the Sea World staff. I can’t think, I can’t talk, I can barely breath. I just want my Jedi.

You leave us hanging with that "after school special" of a cliff hanger?????

(slightly glad that I was right though...since I'm assuming that he's found and well NOW!) :rotfl:

OK, now that my heart is in my throat, could you PLEASE tell us that you found him safe and sound???? Please??!?!?!? :scared1:

I was right about Eeyore...the older ones always think they're big enough to walk in another direction.

Well...where's Jedi? Two in a matter of five minutes?! Bless your soul!

I miss those afterschool specials. I even remember listening to the announcer on TV and going to get my parents just like they told us to. She was awfully grumpy a couple times but we did have some good conversations that were spurred on by the specials.

OK, now that my heart is in my throat, could you PLEASE tell us that you found him safe and sound???? Please??!?!?!? :scared1:

I currently have the same three children I did before we left for Disney this summer.

Eeoyre was fleeing to safety. It was a mob of a crowd that surrounded us. He hates crowds. Hence we haven't seen any parades. But that will change when Dh I hit WDW in 53 days!

I figured he was found, but your update still made me feel slightly nauseous as a fellow mom - please do your next update so my tummy feels better :rotfl2:

Woooooooohooooooooooo for you and your dh being at WDW in 53 days! :dancer:

Whew! I was hoping nothing happened to him. I can't wait to read where he wandered off to!

I can't wait to find out where Jedi went! This is so much like my childhood vacations of yesteryear....

I had one sister who LOVED to get lost:scared1: Once she ran ahead of us and hopped on the MARTA (metro rail system in Atlanta, GA) and the doors closed and off she went into the abyss of a huge city. That one was a nightmare. She was 8 and we seriously considered getting her a leash after that, LOL. But mostly she made a habit of getting lost at the Orlando theme parks. She has a daughter now, and we told her to just wait:laughing:

So when I last left you, we had lost Jedi.

:scared1:

I was at one of the entrances to Shamu’s Playground describing Jedi to the staff.

It was one of the worst times of my whole vacation. It hurts even now as I write this to think about it. Yet, just yesterday when I mentioned that I was writing about this part of the vacation to Dh he said, “When did that happen?” I had to go into further detail to get him to remember. Finally he remembers when I mention we had watermelon. “ Oh yeah, when you spent $6 on watermelon.” I can’t believe he forgot about it losing Jedi but remembers I spent $6 on watermelon. I shake my head at his selective memory choices.

:sad2:

Anyhow not to leave you hanging much longer, as I was panicking and working on a plan to search for Jedi with the Sea World Staff, Cindy runs up to me.

“Mom, we found Jedi.”

:cheer2: Yay for Cindy!

“Where is he?”

“He’s at the picnic table.”

My relief was not complete until I could see him myself and hold him in my arms.

So off I run with to the picnic table with Cindy with the Sea World staff following behind just to make sure.

Sure enough there sits my delinquent little boy eating the $6 watermelon sitting between Dh and Poppa looking as if nothing was ever wrong with the world.

I grab him and squeeze tight.

I give the Sea World staff the thumbs up and they take off.

“Mom. You’re hurting me!”

“Well, young man you’ve just hurt me a whole lot”

“No I didn’t. I didn’t even touch you.”

“You most certainly did hurt me. How do you think I felt when we couldn’t find you?’

“I wasn’t lost. I was just playing. I told Dad where I was going.” Jedi is very defensive and doesn’t seem to understand that he did anything wrong.

“No, you didn’t tell me. You told me you were going to get snacks with Mom and Eeoyre.” Dh says in a scolding tone.

“Well, I was going with Mom. But then, I was hot and saw the splashing boat. I needed to get cooled down you know.”

“Of, course we all needed to cool down but Jedi, we are your parents and we are responsible for you. You knew where we were. You knew you were safe. You weren’t worried. However we didn’t know where you were. We didn’t know you were safe. It scared us and we were worried. That’s not being fair to us. In this family we tell each other where we are going. This rule isn’t just for us kids either. Imagine if Daddy and I just decided to go on the roller coaster ride over there and didn’t tell you so you couldn’t find us. How would you feel?”

“But Poppa is here so it would be okay” chimes in Eeoyre.

:headache:

I throw him a fierce eyeball glare.

“Eeoyre that’s not the point and you’re not helping. Were you scared when we couldn’t find Jedi?”

“Yeah.” Says Eeoyre.

“Okay so let me talk to Jedi without interruptions from you so I can get him to understand how worried we all were.” Eeoyre slumps a bit.

“Okay so Poppa goes with us. How would you feel then Jedi?’ I turn my attention back to Jedi.

“Well, ….” Jedi thinks for a moment. I can tell he’s starting to understand the gravity of the situation. “I wouldn’t like that.” He’s using a smaller voice. Less defensive.

This leads to an in depth discussion about the evils of taking off without your parent knowing where you are and how scared Poppa, Dh and I were when we couldn’t find him. Eeoyre and Cindy join in as well and it serves to reinforce for everyone about the importance of this topic. Interesting that no one brings up a few days ago at the MK when Dh went to the bathroom without telling anyone. I had to bite my tongue not to say anything as I was already pissed off at him for dropping the ball today.

:rolleyes1

Dh and I have a discussion alone later. In my opinion none of this would have happened if I had been informed that Dh was leaving Jedi in my hands. Dh heard Jedi say he was getting snacks with me but no one told me to expect his arrival and that is where the communication broke down.

I could see the boat Jedi was talking about from the snack stand. I didn’t know to watch it.

You’re probably wondering if Jedi was on the boat than why couldn’t we find him? Well, he was on the boat. Then he got wet from all the water splashing and took off his shirt. Hence, looking for him wearing his clothes didn’t help. Then he decided to climb up into the above playground. The one with the nets that has a couple layers to it. That’s where he was. Up in the top layer with his shirt off playing happily while we were on the ground searching frantically.

Remember Cindy and Poppa had gone to look in the above ground playground. Poppa was going to stay on the ground watching Cindy as she climbed up. So it was Cindy that saved the day. She found him and coaxed him down.

After our long talk, and snack we retrieved Jedi’s t-shirt from the boat area, let the kids have one last splash at the boat’s splashpad and left the playground.

I was pretty much done after this. My ribs were still aching with each step (remember how I blew my nose too hard the night before to expel all that sinus buildup I had that had been causing me headaches) and I still had the blister. Never mind the whole emotional ordeal of losing Jedi. I could have left and washed my hands of Sea World and never looked back.

However, the kids were refreshed after their snack and I had my wallet hugging Dh to contend with. He knew we had already paid for lunch ($28 an adult) and there was no way he was going to let us leave without eating it.

We crossed the dreaded boardwalk bridge again (2nd time) and headed over to the see the dolphins. The lineup was huge as I had predicted and once again I was sad that we arrived so late today and missed the perfect opportunity to feed them this morning. However, the kids not knowing what they had missed were just happy to watch them interact with other kids.

We went down below into the underwater viewing area. I had heard about this area from other people’s trip reports and it is a not to be missed spot. It was relatively uncrowded and presented a great view for the kids. If you happen to be visiting Sea World defiantly put this underwater viewing spot on your list.

It started raining (we could tell from the rain drops on top of the water) so we stayed a little longer until it passed. I took lots of pictures trying to get just the right one when the dolphins swam by. However, my favorite turned out to have the dophins in the distance.

Here is my favorite picture of the day.

This picture isn’t bad either. I like how engrossed the kids are watching the dolphins and of course the fact that I managed to get the dophin in the picture. I just like the colours in the other one better.

Up next our prepaid lunch Dh wouldn’t let us miss. “Backstage at Believe” and amazingly enough my first alcoholic drink of the day. Click here. http://www.disboards.com/showpost.php?p=30727466&postcount=668

It's getting so close!!!! Maybe you'll finish this before your PTR needs to start!!!

I didn't think my b-day weekend trip would be worthy of a trip report.

I figured he was found, but your update still made me feel slightly nauseous as a fellow mom - please do your next update so my tummy feels better :rotfl2:

Two days isn't too bad to wait between updates is it?

:lmao: :rotfl2: DH wants to know where Jedi is, and so do I!

Well, I'm honoured your DH is reading along.

Whew! I was hoping nothing happened to him. I can't wait to read where he wandered off to!

:welcome: Glad to have you aboard.

And..................

We need to know you found him safely popcorn::

Safe he was but I think I aged a few years in those 10 minutes he was missing though!

Your poor Mom! It's just awful. Must of been scary for you as well. I know Eeoyre and Cindy were getting worried.

Phew and wow you have a wonderful memory, I can barely remember what I said to DD a few minutes ago let alone whole conversations :thumbsup2

We went to that dolphin viewing area too, it wasn't very innocent though the dolphins were being naughty :rotfl: Beautiful photo :)

I'm trying out my new camera to get used to it before I leave for my Birthday Trip with Dh in 48 days.

The new camera is proving more difficult than I had expected. Plus we got another computer so I am missing my usual loading program and of course my editing program. Dh hasn't loaded those on yet.

The first obstacle with the camera was the rechargable batteries. I thought they were all alike. The new camera takes two but my old one took four. Well the new camera would only turn on for about 30 seconds with the batteries. So we now have different rechargable batteries. Ones that are stronger. Luckily they still use the same charger.

So now I've got that figured out. Then we needed new memory cards. This new one took a different type. Of course the one that it came with holds like 16 pictures if that.

Then I had to figure out how to load the images into the computer. This proved the most difficult as it took a while to realize it automatically defaulted to something other than JPEG or even GIF.

So I have not edited any of these pictures. I have not figured out which mode to take pictures on. But here are a couple.

The first ones are from the weekend away in January where Dh and I went to the cottage alone. We were on our new snowshoes. They rock!

These next pictures DH took last night. We had our GALA evening at our dance studio. That means that our competitive numbers put on a show for their friends and family as a dress rehersal for competitions.

Dh only got Cindy. She is the one hiding in the first standing row on the left in the group shot of her Ballet line here. It's hard to pick her out sometimes as there are a couple girls that look similar. Especially when they are wearing wigs or masks. They danced to a Cold Play song Viva something or other. So technically it is a lyrical number as there are lyrics to the song. We still call it a Ballet line nonetheless.

df42dcf2.jpg

Here she is with a good friend. Eeoyre does a Hip Hop duet with this friend. In case you can't tell Cindy is the one on the right NOT smiling. She was in a mood most of the evening in case you can't tell from the picture.

b5019ca2.jpg

Unfortunatly Dh didn't take any pictures of any other numbers. So there aren't any of Eeoyre or I. Yeah I know you're thinking why didn't he take pictures? Well the Ballet line was the opening act and while I was backstage doing all the costume changes Dh got to sit in the audience and just enjoy.

Here are some shots he took today of Cindy's Hockey Game. There she is playing defense.

8529c0e1.jpg

Here she is kicking back in the locker room after hanging with the boys. I love how she can go from makeup and Tutu's to face guards and hockey sticks in less than 12 hours.

409dcc9f.jpg

That's all for now.

6 days until we leave for Myrtle Beach.

:thumbsup2 Ok, we feel better now, he's found
We liked all of the pictures, we think Cindy looked happier at hockey!
That's great that the kids have those opportunities:goodvibes

Wow, that was a fast update... thank goodness he was found in short order... looking forward to lunch.
