A Gem of a trip-quality, clarity, color and "Cut that out!" completed 8/4

I do like your hair in that photo. The color is great too!! I do get the 'a la naturel' at WDW though. Too darn hot to worry about it.

We did have a nice time at the wedding Alysa. Thanks for asking. It was bittersweet though as...

1) I missed the kids. They were only there for the ceremony so we could have really partied but well.... I guess DH and I are just getting old and boring cause we mostly just caught up with out of town family and watched the younger crowd drink and dance.

2) DH's father(Grandpa) and the therefore the father of the bride has terminal cancer. He was on tons of steroids and painkillers so he could make it though the event. DH's sister was supposed to get married next year but they put together the wedding in four months once we all heard that Grandpa didn't have much time left. The traditionnal bride and her father dance was very dramatic for everyone.

Beautiful photos!
Thanks Nemo32

The color is great too!!
Thanks Lazydoxy66. My old hair colour just disapeared off the shelves a few weeks ago and I've been trying to find the right replacement. I think I found a winner.

Now that the wedding is over and my guests have left I can finally concentrate on what really matters-DISNEY!

Opps posted wrong day!!!!! Can you tell I haven't had my coffee yet today?

We got on the 8:25 bus and made it to the park by 9:10. After securing strollers (yes, still two and we still had the fighting over who was sitting with who) we rode the great movie ride. It did scare the kids a tad (but then what doesn't) but most of it went over their heads.

Upon exiting I noticed a group of young people with very large black sacks on their backs heading into the back door of the ABC building. I suggested a bathroom break to stall for time. Sure enough 10 minutes later there were a bunch of characters in the building. We were one of the first groups to get in to see them. Here are some shots of us.

Nanny's always loved Betty White so we took her picture with her.

I took a picture with Oprah. I had no idea who this bust was of until I read it. I think they need to redo it.

The little mermaid was next. Again this scared the kids a bit but they DID understand it. I had forgotten to remind them about the sensory thing. We talked about it months ago but in passing so the kids were surprised. I also noticed that all three of them had their feet up in their chair just in case this show was like "Honey I shrunk the kids".

We went right to Beauty and Beast. The kids loved it. Poppa fell asleep again. We were getting hungry and I wanted to take them to the backlot express. I had researched the menus on allearsnet.com and knew that this counter service restaurant would be okay for my picky entourage. We were there when it opened for lunch.

The magic brooms from the sorcerer's apprentice.

I knew we were coming back for fantasmic and that our dinner was at 4:45 so we would have lots of time to kill in the park tonight. We just missed the Indiana Jones show but didn’t want to stick around for the next one.

We ran into Goofy and Minnie on our way out. We took some photopass pictures. As you can see from the pictures not all three kids were willing to participate in this interaction.

MGMMinnieGoofy.jpg

Other than the happy dinner at Chef Mickey's I had an extremely hard time getting all three kids to pose pleasantly for a picture. In most pictures it is one of the younger two who just can't seem to pull it together-be it the heat, the crowds, being overtired and over stimulated but the creakiness would manifest itself by refusing to be in pictures. So I didn't make them. Sometimes (as in the AK pictures with a grouchy DD) I just snapped the picture with the offended child in the shot or sometimes I just moved the offending child just out of bounds of the shot.

DS8 our Eeoyre was happy to pose with all the characters for pictures. He had very few meltdowns and although there were things he refused to do (or listen to like the fireworks) he never got worked up about it. DS8 behaviour surpassed our expectations this trip. I am so glad I waited to bring him to Disney. There was no way it would have been an enjoyable experience for anyone of us when he was younger. I know that some kids are fine when they are younger and ready to experience all that Disney has to offer but not my Eeoyre. It was right to wait. I guess that is yet another thing my DH was right about. I suppose I might mention that to him. Maybe not today though.

It was 12:20 when we boarded the bus home.

Here is Nanny walking past the main pool at ASMu to the Jazz Inn building where we stayed.

Here is DS4 and DH walking by the pool too.

DH, DS4 and Nanny had a nap while Poppa and I took the other two to the pool. Eventually DH and DS4 surfaced for some pool time and others swear I had a catnap in the sun on my lounger. :cloud9: I think it just looked that way.

We got dressed and headed back to MGM for dinner at Hollywood and Vine. See how empty the bus was heading back there. We really enjoyed the quiet bus rides in the afternoons.

I choose it primarily because it was a buffet. My kids do well with buffets. Typically they will go up to the buffet with their plate and look around the food from a distance. They may let an adult put a super safe and boring food like French-fries on their plate. They'll leave the buffet area and return to the table. The next trip up to the food they will get a little closer and may even put the food on their plates themselves. By the third visit up there (usually desert) they are self-sufficient.

After dinner we split up. DH and DS4 wanted to do the star wars ride and the rest of us were headed for the Muppets. We got sidetracked by the "Honey I shrunk the kids playground". We never got out of it. It was super hot in there. Look at how pink the kids cheeks are.

I tracked down DH and DS and we started walking towards fantasmic. We pressed a few pennies and did some store browsing on the way.
It still seemed like a long wait for the show to begin. Cindy and I went to go get some snack and lemonade. It was so hot I actually got myself a beer. The last time I had one was probably in the 90's. I wish I had of bought the kids light up things with me. You know, the ones I bought in Epcot purposely to annoy DH. I had stocked up on some dollar store bracelets and such but I forgot where I put them in my suitcase until I got home and unpacked.

I thought I might of needed that beer to deal with my kids watching fantasmic. We sat at the back of the reserved section. Sitting up close is not a good choice for my guys. They had all seen most of it on Youtube. They knew the story. There were some quick movements and holding of their ears at the beginning when the stage effects started. The kids were good and enjoyed it.

The other reason I sat at the back of the reserved section was to give us a better chance at exiting. Up until this point we really hadn't experienced a massive exiting at Disney. When we watched illuminations we took our time getting back to the buses, as it was an EMH night. When I knew it was over I wasn't letting us all wait for the "fat lady to sing". I made everyone gather his or her stuff up and we watched the last bit standing at the back. Every child was to stick with its assigned adult. Cindy and I were the most mobile pair. DH had DS4 who was a bit tired and just can't run that much, at that time of night. DS8 was stuck with Nanny (with the bum leg from the thornbushes) and Poppa and I don't think either of them have ran since the 90's. So Cindy and I waved goodbye and told them we'd see them back at the Hotel.

DH and DS4 did end up on the bus with us but they were a minute or two behind us. DS8 and Nanny and Poppa were no where to be seen. Just as we were pulling away I caught a glimpse of them. DS8 was pulling Poppa's arm toward the bus stop and Poppa was yelling at Nanny to keep up. They made it on the next bus behind us, which was loading as we left.

Only Cindy and I were pleased with the split exit approach. My family has since told me we are not to repeat that again. We are all to be on the same bus.

It was 10:10 when we arrived back at the Hotel. The kids went swimming again. This time they went in to the big pool. After 2pm each day the big pool had a social director with organized activities. Not that my children did any of the activities but they liked to watch. I almost had DS8 compete in the singing contest. And not to brag but not only can the boy dance he can sing too. He even signed his name on the sheet of paper and made eye contact with the social director. Unfortunately the director decided it was time to move on to the next activity one person before my son.

Cindy had been bugging me all week to get a hair wrap and since the booth was finally free she got her wish. She kept it in for two months after. She's already been bugging me about getting another one this year.

The next day is DS4's birthday. So hereon afterwards he will be known as DS5. He requested dinner with Pooh so we had the Magic Kingdom to look forward to again.

Oh my goodness, that is so sad, but so beautiful that he got to see his girl get married. My DH is a cancer researcher. I keep telling him to hurry up.

Well he did his PhD in breast cancer but now he is concentrating more on how cancer travels and spreads along the vascular pathways.

Sounds like a successful day! Fantasmic is a fabulous show, minus the massive crowds herded into that dead end.

This upcoming trip I have concentrated on rope drops and our special events ie pirate cruise, cirque, wonderland tea party adn seaworld.

We are avoiding all fireworks and parades so I am hoping that means the crowded buses and mass exits like after fantasmic last year. As I mentioned in my report only Cindy and I found it fun.

Maybe DH and I can escape and see illuminations again one night together alone (I can hope) but with all the rope drops I have planned I think we will be sacked out early.

Just wanted to say I'm enjoying reading about your trip last year. You must be so excited to be going back in just a few days!!! I can only imagine that every time you go back, it will be that much better with your kids (who are gorgeous BTW) as they'll be more familiar and older. Have a great time!!

Just wanted to say I'm enjoying reading about your trip last year

Thanks Alice Bluebonnet and Welcome!

Your trip is almost here!!!!!

I know, I know. It seems so unreal.

Today DH is taking the kids to the cottage overnight so I can get some stuff done. I'm teaching Kindergarten next year for the first time and am starting to panic that I haven't prepared enough yet. And then there is the housework and :laundy: that always needs doing plus finishing picking up a few odds and ends for our disney trip. Ughh!! I'm starting to feel overwhelmed already!:scared1:

Wow - six days! I hope you have an AMAZING time! Can't wait to hear all about it!

I forgot you teach kindergarten you wonderful woman. Fast tracking your way to heaven are you?
:worship:

DH just took off for the cottage a few minutes ago. I am officially alone for the next 32 hours.
WOO HOO!!
I forgot you teach kindergarten you wonderful woman. Fast tracking your way to heaven are you?
I haven't done it yet. I've dreamed of it since I was in grade 4 and was a kindergarten helper. I'm nervous now that it is finally happening.

Okay I'm off to finish the adult t-shirts. The kids were done last week. I'm not pleased with one of DS9's shirts and might redo that one.

t-shirtsfamily.jpg

These are the matching family ones. In case you can't quite see the pattern I revamped it from a "diser" Kristine N and her thread. Here is hers.

greenfamilyworld.jpg

She used to personalize them but hasn't visited the disigns boards in a while. So I tried my hand at fixing them myself.

These are the pirate cruise t-shirts for my kids. I got the Tink and the boat from Kristine N. and the pattern for the mickey head map from rumblytumbly also a dis boards disigner.

t-shirtspiratecruise.jpg

For the Wonderland tea party the kids will be wearing these. I got the clip art off the internet somewhere and just added the wording myself. My DD's name is very close to Alice.

t-shirtsteaparty.jpg

This last group I am not as happy with. They were the first ones I printed out and the pattern is pretty small. DS9's "feeling goofy" barely shows up. Now I'm upset about it but he still thinks the shirt is great so since it is really only a one or two time wearable item I'm trying to deal with the imperfection of it. My printer is now out of ink otherwise I would redo it. The important thing is that he is happy with it right?
