Day 4 – October 7
Universal Studios

Cast of Characters
DH = Hubby of Sound Mind - 31
Me = Freak – 30
Pal = Pal Mickey

According to my original plan, we went to Universal Studios this day. A few months ago, I bought admission tickets online that gave us a total of 5 park-hopping days. We only wanted 2 days – one day for each park with the option to hop – and it seemed cheaper to do it this way. I was excited about it since I hadn’t been for over 10 years and DH had never been. I thought it would be fun adventure. But I wasn’t prepared to be missing the “magic” so much. From the very beginning through the end of this day, it was just missing something.

When we first arrived in the parking garage (how weird), we knew things would be different. It took us about 10 minutes to walk from our parking spot to the entrance of City Walk. We then continued on the Islands of Adventure. I must say that the theming was wonderful! The buildings and surroundings are very well done. And since this was a Tuesday, the park was almost empty! Actually, many people arrived at the same time as us (about 10) but they all herded towards Marvel Superhero Island (left – clockwise). We thought it best to go the opposite way. Great choice! We were virtually alone in Seussland. I loved this area of the park the most. Even though it is mostly for kids and we did not go on any rides, we though the attractions were well made and very Seusslike. And we were lucky enough to get a picture with Things 1 and 2 (one of ‘em who groped me a bit – yikes!). Why is it that some characters think they can get away with that stuff if they have a costume on?! Well, I didn’t haul off and slug him (or her?) so I guess he/she got away with it. So on to the rest of the Islands. We went on the Fire (or was it Ice) roller coaster with almost no wait – 5 minutes tops. The ride was great and the theming in the queue was wonderful. Then we went on the Jurassic park ride, the cute dragon roller coaster, and finally made it to Superhero Island. By this time, the crowd has disbursed and we were able to get on the Spiderman ride with only about 20 minute wait and the Hulk was a walk on! Woohoo! They actually delayed us slightly to remove a train from the track since the crowd was so light. The Hulk was good (except that my contact almost fell out when we took off). I was trying to enjoy the ride while keeping my one eye shut to keep the contact lens in. Oh, what a ride photo – I looked like I might have been having a seizure. But trust me, I enjoyed the ride! However, Spiderman was the best! What a cool combination of 3-D and motion. It was very exciting and fun. But now we were done with Islands of Adventure and it was just after lunchtime!

Well, we headed over to Universal (thank god for the park-hopper thing) and we started wandering around. We did the Shrek thing. I wasn’t really impressed and DH got a bit nauseated so we took it easy and just wandered around a bit more. At this point, it was so HOT I thought I would actually melt! Thank god for the misters they have everywhere. Sadly, DH was pretty much done by 3:00 so we headed back to the World. That’s cool with me – more Disney is a good thing! And, I was missing my Pal already. He stayed home to rest. I would never subject Pal to the enemy.

When we got back to the hotel, I suggested that we call for PS to Alfredo’s in Epcot for a real italian meal. DH was totally up for it and we actually got a PS for the time we wanted. So we packed up again (with our Pal) and headed over there for dinner. We were a bit nervous since there was a huge thunder/lightning storm overhead but we made it to Italy before the rains came. We were seated fairly promptly and snugly between our neighbors. Wow – they can really pack in the people in that place! But DH was charmed by his Chianti and I by the overall atmosphere. Dinner from the bread, to the soup, to the calimari appetizer, to my seafood dinner special, and DHs veal, through the best dessert of cannollis ever made, was the most wonderful, romantic dinner (even though they packed us in). The waistaff sang and we all twirled our napkins in the air. We were all family by the end of the night (except for the bi**ch near to DH). 5 stars! But it kills me that there are some that can’t have a good time in Disney!

Thanx for sharing ~ Wonderful reviews.

Maybe it was delswife's SIL! If you haven't read her trip reports you won't know what I'm talking about! Glad you got to go to Universal. We want to go every year, but when we start planning we just can't take the day away from Disney!! Thanks again for sharing your trip! :D

I love IofA! Spiderman is just wonderfully entertaining.

Thanks for the review of Alfredo's, I've never eaten there before.
