Is it worth the money and seemingly great effort to get to? We are staying at the Coronado and if we decide to go, may end up taking a cab. Is the show really worth all the hype and is it really that aggravating to get there? My family is a fun bunch, it will be six adults and one 6 year old who loves singing and dancing.

Thanks much!

Our family loves HDDR! The food is good (not great but good). The jokes are corny but my 13 yr daughter loves them! We stayed at Pop on our last visit and took the bus to MK. Then hopped on the boat to the Fort. It wasn't bad at all. On the way back, we did the reserve. Boat from the fort to the MK, then bus back to Pop. We attended the 5:15 show so it wasn't very late when we got out. I guess if you attend a later show, a cab would be best for the return trip. I don't think you'll regret going to the show. We've been 3 times and would definitely go again!

It is so much fun! I have to say it is one of my favorite things to do when we are on vacation at Disney. The adults have so much fun since the humor alot of the times goes right over the kid's heads. Your 6 year old will love it too since it's "silly" alot of the times and the kids just crack-up.

We visit WDW many years before we could "afford" HDDR. Yeah, it was as much fun as everyone said it was.

I think the "easiest" way to get there using WDW transportation would be taking the bus to MK then the boat to Ft Wilderness. The marina is just a short walk from the Settlement where the HDDR is.

Another way is a bus to DTD, Epcot or the Studios and then hop on the Ft Wilderness bus. Most likely you will be dropped off at "the front" of the Fort (Outpost) and then will need to take an internal bus through the campground back to the Settlement. You could walk, but I think it's a little over a mile.

It's really not that difficult - unless you are short on time.

Don't forget that you can also get a boat to Ft. Wilderness from Wilderness Lodge as well as the Contemporary (note: two boats service FW - the larger MK boat and the smaller resort boat WL-Contemp-FW).

Honestly, getting there is not so bad because you can leave a bit early and take your time BUT getting back to your resort is a whole other adventure. We usually just call a cab to take us back. It doesn't cost very much and they are there within 10 minutes and it's stress-free. I'd highly recommend this for after the Hoop-de-doo show.

We are staying at POP and will have our car. Would you suggest driving to avoid the "after the show" crowds?

I knew I could count on the great people on the Dis! Thanks a lot for the reviews and the travel tips!!

If you have a car, I would highly recommend driving there. The buses are SO packed after the show and the ride is not short to get through the campground.

note to the poster who asked about driving there. you can't park at the front of Fort Wilderness near where Pioneer hall is. you have to park at the oposite end of the campground (no cars in campground other than those who are camping there). tell the guard at the gate that you are going to the hoop dee doo. he will give you a parking pass good for a few hours and direct you to the internal campgroud bus that will take you the 1 mile thru the campground to the Pioneer Hall/marina area. you can catch that same bus back after you are done with the HDD (i suggest exploring FW a little - it is a campground like non other. if you are even a wanna be camper it will be worth your time. we went out and bought a pop up after our first tour and returned the following year - and several times afterwards - to break that camper in at the Fort.)

oh, and to OP - yes HDD is expensive but it is (IMHO) worth it. a great time! go yuck it up and enjoy yourselves.

It is a lot of fun and definitely worth it. I would take a bus to MK and boat there. Its a nice trip over and you get to go past Wilderness Lodge.
