have to go to work...must subscribe to this thread!
Here's a good one...happened just this past Saturday, at MK.
We were in the preshow line at Monster's Inc and there was a family right in front of me to my right. The dad kneels down, takes out a water bottle, the 2-3 year old son whips out his private part and pees right into the bottle while the mom stands there and watches. No effort to shield him, cover him up, hide him from others standing mere inches away from him. I looked at my DH and said "now I've seen it all". Then the dad zips up the water bottle into his backpack and enters the attraction. I couldn't believe it. I was like, what is wrong with people????
Now, I don't have boys, but when my girls have to go to the bathroom you know what I do....I leave the line and find them a bathroom! Imagine that??!! I mean, c'mon...is the 2yr old really going to understand the whole laugh factory thing? It's not like this was the Pooh Bear ride, he's not really missing anything by getting off the line at Monster's Inc!
Sheesh!
Last week we heard a Dad drop an F bomb on his daughter in Mickey's Judges Tent. It was time to meet Mickey and the little girl was having a hard time getting untangled from the stuff she was carrying. Instead of helping her, Dad says, "Get up here" (with an F bomb in there). The girl didn't even look up, so obviously she's used to it, but a CM said, "That's OK, Princess" and helped her get up there with Mickey. It was definitely not somagical for that family or anyone around them.
Or maybe that was the last bus from the grocery to her home, and she'd just spent the day traveling by bus to do her errands.....she can't call a cab or rent a car, or drive her own, because her husband works 10 hour days making minimum wage so they don't have a car or the extra money for a cab or rental just because she did the grocery shopping.
No, I don't think that someone on the bus was required to get up for her....that's a courtesy not a law. But just think how YOU may have spread a little sunshine her way by giving her a seat and you standing. Hmmmm....isn't that what we expect every CM to do? Yes, they get (barely) paid for that and courtesy is considered their job.....but gosh, wouldn't it be nice to spread some of that magical moments OFF property?
I thank my lucky stars that I have never had to take a bus.....anywhere...not to get to school as a youngster, not to get to work or do errands. I've ridden probably less than a dozen bus rides in my entire life, and never once was it because I didn't have a car! But I am blessed. Because it's just possible that woman and her children will never ever step foot onto WDW property. Ever. And my girls and I will be going for a whole month!
Yep....I'm blessed. And now a small part of me wants to go ride a bus so I can give up my seat to someone who needs it.
Ok, I'm over that idea, lol.....but I do try to find other ways to show courtesy to those having a bad day...or life.
Maybe the next time you are sitting on a bus dreaming about your last/next visit to WDW you could spread a little of that magical moment pixie dust on someone. Who knows, maybe as you get off that bus some of it might spill onto your shoulder. Just don't brush it off!
Or not.
I know for sure that I did at least two things last week that would be worthy of posting about on this board if anyone witnessed them. My husband did one weird thing involving a Brazilian tour group that at least 100 people witnessed. Gah, I can't take him anywhere.![]()
man oh man all sorts of rude people go to disney... a man comes up and ask if the end of our table is taken { two tables that were already togetehr and had 6 hcairs pulled up} i say yes sir { he was older so i was polite and used my southern girl manners} he stomps off yelling " you shouldn't do that, you should stand in line ,get your food then find a table'
After all, we're at WDW--'the happiest place on earth', right?![]()
HONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNK.
HOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNKKKKKKKK.
You're quite fortunate that mass transit is not a daily occurrence for you. I, however, take two trains to work each day, or in the alternative, a bus. I have been commuting for 20+ years. I agree that you should get up for those who are more in need, especially on vacation, but when you commute everyday on mass transit, there's ALWAYS someone more needy than yourself. After a while you do become more selfish. I have had bad days, and I want to sit. Sorry if I'm not willing to get up every time, but I think commuters come to understand that.
I've often been the guy standing with a tray full of food, desperately looking for a place to sit before my meal gets cold. And ya know something - I've never felt entitled to berate people who were already seated awaiting their own meals.
In point of fact, I applaud those people who have the courtesy and forsight to send their family to the tables while one or two members of the party get in line. See, counter-service lines at WDW are uncomfortably narrow places, and at meal times they are very crowded, and it's more efficient and more comfortable if the bulk of your party goes to the table to wait for the food.
That way, the lines continue moving forward, and you don't have to contend with guiding a whole family through a packed CS dining area, looking for a seat, keeping the kids and stroller together, and balancing trays full of hot food all at the same time.
It's also more efficient - as the bulk of the party is waiting, they can also send one person to get straws, napkins, s&p, ketchup, etc. instead of all of them camping out in front of the condiment stations.
Actually, no - that's Disneyland. WDW is "The place where Magic lives."

It wasn't very crowded in Mickey's Toontown Fair that day, but it
certainly was hot enough. Mid-afternoon, and everyone -- cast and
guest alike -- were ready for their nap. Alas, only the kids in
strollers were getting any peace.
The Toontown Railroad Station provided only a little shade, but the
small number of families waiting as the locomotive whistled it's
approach to the station guaranteed that there would be seats enough
for all. That wasn't going to be good enough, unfortunately.
As soon as the gate was opened, two overheated fathers tried to lay
claim to the same seat on the train by tossing their strollers onto
it at the same time. Never mind that there were whole cars of empty
seats, both insisted that only their family was entitled to that
particular seat and none other would do.
As their wives looked at each other in sad resignation, the two men
fell to fighting. First with undisnical language, then with their
fists. Other guests gave them a wide berth as they proceeded to vent
the frustrations of too long a day at the park upon each other.
The station conductor was watching from the edge of the crowd along
with the rest, and a guest anxiously asked, "Aren't you going to stop
them?"
"Nope," he replied, "Not for $6.50 an hour I'm not."
"But what are you going to do about it?" she demanded.
He pointed to the end of the platform, where another conductor was on
the telephone. "He's calling 911 now. When the fight is over, the
sheriff will take the winner, the paramedics will take the looser,
and I will take the train to Main Street and have lunch."
