A few simple questions

I plan intend to attend the Rosen College at UCF in Orlando. I want to do a CP the first chance I get, so I can get that out of the way, then as soon as that is over, go part time, keeping just enough hours to remain in that category. My senior year, I'd like to do a Management Operations PI. Can I do a PI while I'm employed as PT? If not, what should I do? I'm only doing that CP so that I will have the appropriate qualifications for the MO PI.

Also, does anyone have a ballpark salary (or what you think it might be) for a full-time, salaried Operations Manager?

Could anyone shed some light on this? Thanks!

I can't answer all the questions, but I'll take a stab at these two:

...as soon as that is over, go part time, keeping just enough hours to remain in that category.

If you are able to convert to part time (status is Casual Regular, depends on the area and if they need additional cast members and/or already have open requisitions), you need to keep in mind that this requires at least three days of availability. There's also the seasonal option (Casual Temporary/Casual Limited), which allows you to specify whenever you're available. I've heard varying things, but the guideline seems to be just 40 hours a year to maintain that status.

You can only have one status at any given time. In order for you to participate in a Management Internship, you status would have to change from part time (Casual Regular) to Temporary Salaried, and that internship requires full availability in terms of scheduling.

Thanks. I was afraid I would have to quit as a PT before a PI. It would depend on my school schedule, but I would most likely do CT/CL. Just something to keep my status.

Thanks for your help! Can anyone answer my other questions?

Why wait to your senior year? I was thinking the same thing about myself then a manager pointed out to me they are hard to get internships so why risk only applying once and suggested I should apply ever chance I get. I know through some friends someone who is doing a PI in management right now and they work with him for his school schedule.

As for PT thats a good plan... a lot of people from Rosen are part time at Disney it seems. The only reason I didn't go PT after my program (I'm seasonal now still waiting for my full time status) is 1) you can't become a trainer or coordinator as PT and 2) full time cast members get tuition reimbursements. My managers all told me if I was FT and going to school they would try really hard to work with me to make sure my days off are when I needed to take classes and all. With living out of state Rosen is going to cost me a TON of money so tuition reimbursement was a big thiing to me.

As for a ballpark firgure about managers and their salary... take this with a grain of salt this is strictly like someone told someone who told someone who told me but it is around 40,000 a year. I'm guessing it really depends on your experience and maybe your education. Again that is a ballpark firgure at best.

Thanks for your response Andy. I never really thought about the managers being flexible when working FT and I especially didn't think about tuition reimbursements. Any idea how much those are approximately? Does it depend on anything?

For the MO PI, you must be a Junior or Senior. So, if I understand correctly, I could potentially apply four different times. I would just hope that in the event you got the PI your junior year, and they offered you a job following, that they'd still be willing to work with you once you were employed full time in manager capacity.

As for the salary - that sounds about right based on what some others have told me in private. I'm really hoping that your education has something to do with it as well. Especially if I have a degree in Hospitality Management (and a track in Theme Park Management will DEFINITELY be on my resume), I would hope that it would mean something to them.

Thanks again for your help. Also, I replied to your PM before reading this, so some of the questions I asked in my PM I now know.
