So we have been going back and forth for awhile now, and I think we've finally decided to pull the trigger since the webcast deal is about to expire (looking at the discount instead of the cruise). Hubby wants BLT, 200 points. Yes, I know resale is the best option (I'm on all the mailing lists, etc.), but I would like to have 2 100 point contracts so I need to go through Disney. A few questions though:

1) Are there any additional costs for having two contracts? Either upfront (i.e. closing, taxes) or recurring?

2) In order to get the 2009 points, could I get an April use year or would I have to go with June or later since there is no May use year? Do I have to ask the guide for the 2009 points provided the UY month has not passed or will they graciously give them to me?

3) Anything else I need to be aware of?

4) While our kids are not in school yet, we will be traveling during the summer and typical holiday times in the future. Do you think June is a good use year for this or would something else be better? We love to travel in the off seasons (like September-Oct) but know this won't be feasible for much longer.

TIA!
Jenn

nope.

let the guide know you are interested in a contract with 2009 pts. april 2009 use year points are all gone since it's april already, so you'd need to look for a june or later UY.

maybe? :)

if you are travelling in the summer, june is a good UY but i wouldn't go later than that...

It does not hurt to ask for 2009 points put in a banked status for a April UY, you never know. BLT is one of the properties that is really not a good deal resale right now so you are making the right choice going direct. Good luck!

June UY will work out great:thumbsup2

Is DVC selling 100 point BLT contracts to new members?

You may be required to purchase 160 as your Master and then 40 as an add on. You will need a min 50 points if you want to finance thru DVC.

As long as they are buying the required amount between the two contracts, they are OK. The only requirement is that one of the two contracts has to be at least 100 points. At least that was what we were told. We bought 2 110 point contracts for a total of 220. We figured that we could eventually give each of our daughters a contract if we ever got to where we didn't want to go anymore. Did I just say that?:rotfl:

You should be given June UY points for 2009 since we are still in that UY. When I asked about this for an add on a few months ago, I was told I could still get them.

We travel in the summer (I teach) and June UY works well for us. If you want the 2009 points, you won't be able to get April.

There are no other fees for the two contracts and they will function as one big one, which is nice. We have a 130 and 50 contract, but it works just like 180 points.

Good luck!

I just bought bought a 100 point AKV contract** on Mon and my only extra costs, besides $/point, were closing costs which were less than $200. Not sure if there are higher closing costs for more points or if 2 contracts means 2 different titles and therefore higher closing cost

We got a June UY for our contract. Didn't ask for anything earlier, but would assume anything earlier would not get you 2009 points since the UY for that month would be over. My guide told me about 2009 points, I did not have to ask about them; from other posts I read it sounds like guides use getting 2009 points upfront as a big benefit.
3) Anything else I need to be aware of?
Possibly :confused3. everything with put my contract together was very straighforward - I couldn't believe how quick and easy it was.

Obviously things can change, but sounds like June would work very well for you for many years to come.

**Yes, I was able to purchase a 100 point contract as a 1st time buyer :yay:. I'm not positive, but I think the 100 point minimum is an offer at AKV and SSR now, but not sure until when.

Thank you for this information I was adding on BLT 125 to get the webinar discount (wanted 100 but upped it for the additional off) I really wanted smaller contracts just in case we decide later that we have more points then we want (2 kids in college next year) and my guide never even suggested splitting the 125 into 2 contracts of 60 and 65. I did call him after reading this and asked about splitting it or possibly doing (3) 40, 40 and 45 point contracts and he said we were better off with the 60 and 65. I still am not sure why. (less work for him) He was on his way to a meeting so I was very rushed and this was the 4th call in 2 days I made to him. (phone tag)

I am now having second thoughts altogether of doing this add on and just waiting to see if something comes along resale down the line. I know BLT is not a good deal resale and in May I am staying at OKW with girlfriends and plan on doing my home work by checking out all properties! Prices for BLT have only come down since we purchased in Feb.

Thank you rescueranger for sharing your experience with BLT. I knew they were offering 100 point contracts for AKV but this is the first I've heard of BLT being allowed the smaller entry contracts. I had a friend that purchased and they made her buy the 160 min first at BLT.

There is a such thing as too small and I think with the high point costs of BLT and the reallocations, 40 points is just too small. With what we all know about 2011 points, anything less than 60 is going to be a struggle and could adversely affect resale value if you ever want to sell. Closing costs are going to make a 40 point contract look really unattractive considering you wont be able to book 3 nights in a standard view studio with it.
I agree with your guide on this one. Im sure he received many complaints from those that purchased prior to the reallocations and it really is not that much more work for him. They have an entire support team that takes care of the paperwork. Your guide just enters the number of points you want in the system and Quality Control pretty much does the rest.

Just a clarification. I didn't buy BLT. We bought 220 pts at AKV split into 2- 110 pt contracts. We were still able to get the $15 per point discount for contracts of 200+ points. As long as you are buying the contracts at the same time, Disney will combine the amounts to figure out the propert amount of discount. I believe the previous poster bought an add on and that was why they could get smaller contracts for BLT.

Ok Thank you. DVC was not allowing new purchase BLT contracts to be less than 160. The original poster JennG appears to be a new purchaser that wanted to split their BLT contracts into 100 and 100. As a new BLT purchaser that combo would not be allowed. She would have to purchase 160 to meet the minimum requirement and then add on from there.

AKV was different because they were allowing new contracts at 100. I purchased AKV with a new UY last month with the 100 + 60 +60 so that definitely is the case with AKV.

Just wanted to clarify that the purchase requirements are different between resorts so no one feels their guide is trying to mislead them.

Learn something new everyday and that certainly makes sense about the 40 points I did not even think about it. I wish I could get the information from my guide, but I can never seem to reach him at a convienent time. (not always his fault we have played phone tag for several days!) Okay now I feel better and since DH is saying yes to add on I should take advantage! Done after this?? Okay yes done with addonitis, still need to experience our 1st trip in May. lol

:goodvibes If you have any questions, Im happy to help:wizard:

Im no guide, but I enjoy my DVC! 99.9% of what we learn as members is not thru guides. They are generally a poor source of info but nice as can be!

Stick around here and you will learn alot:wizard:

OK... it's me again.:lmao: You can buy 2 100 point contracts as a new owner. I think even for BLT. The way the guide explained it to me was that as long as the 2 or more contracts were bought at the same time, at least one of the cotracts was 100 pts, and "together" met the point requirements, the purchase was fine. When I first asked him this question about the two contracts, I had not even picked AKV yet. So, either it does work for BLT as well, or the guide was assuming I was buying AKV and it will not work for BLT. Long story short, someone should call and ask a guide if it can be done. Man. I think I just confused myself. Well, wouldn't be the first time.:rotfl2:

You will be sorry I have your name now! lol You are right this site is great and the wealth of information is just non-stop. My teens think I am addicted, but I keep telling them this is my happy fix! Thanks again

Getting 2009 points was one of the incentives when I bought BLT (closed on Sunday).

You could also select between a "free" cruise or $$ off your per point purchase price.

Also, don't be afraid to ask them to book right away.

We went in 2 weeks agond "committed" to buying 160 pts at BLT.

I asked how soon could I book a trip, he said today.

I clarified, no, how soon would be the quickest that I could get a reservaction for a stay. He asked for my dream - I said Mother's Day (May 6th - 12th). And we got it. 1-bedroom turned around that fast.

I'm not sure if we would have bought, if not for the awesome staff at the Woodfield shopping mall location and the fact that we could walk through the replicas of the BLT rooms. It's really a nice setup.

congratulations! Bought BLT in Feb have a Feb 2011 booked 2 bedroom, cannot wait!

Thanks for all the replies. I'm playing phone tag with my guide so I'm hoping I can still get the incentives from the webinar. Hopefully he will honor it since the original call was before the expiration. I'll let you all know what he says about splitting the points into 2 contracts.
