It was a good day. I really dislike planning parties, so I compromise and plan "happenings", but then feel like a loser for doing so. But....it tends to work out. Happenings, or events, or outings really go over well, because there's always something to talk about.
8 of the 10 of us bowled, then 7 played minigolf after bowling. We had cake...and a pitcher of milk...we don't normally drink dairy milk (though ice cream and cheese are consumed here) but we had sampled the cake before buying it, and it required milk. Or beer. But this was a family crowd, LOL. We bought the cake at the last minute (the night before) at Whole Foods; it was actually a vegan chocolate mousse cake that was decadent and ridiculously chocolatey. So it's extra-odd to have milk, but it's possible that not everyone knew of the vegan-ness of the cake. We chose it because it was the most delicious from the Whole Foods case, anyway.
We actually had the cake between two sets of bowling (games of bowling? how do you say that?) and the second game went a lot faster, LOL. So much sugar....
Then the friends left and we drove cousins back to BIL's place, where we had dinner with them and their dogs. (5 little yippy dogs plus SIL's big dog) That was nice, though MIL joined us. She looked super-frail but was still criticizing them about how many dogs they have, how they have a "doggie house", etc. Said nothing to me about my weight (for the newbies, my MIL has a long history of criticizing me about my weight while pulling no punches...the last time I saw her she had switched over to how I'm too skinny), but I guess got on her daughter's case about having gained, MAYBE, 10 lbs. Since SIL is something like 5'8" this is NOT a problem, and it's being caused by a very hectic lifestyle of single mom to a teen and preteen, going to school, and working fulltime, along with quitting smoking!!!!! She's allowed to have gained a little weight, IMO. That's temporary, and once she gets used to not smoking, she can focus on losing it again, no big.
Anyhoo....
Because yesterday was so busy we didn't even get to OUR presents for him, let alone my brother's, so today we went around to bike stores. Michele I was thinking of your family while doing this, while seeing the fancy bikes. The kiddo needs a 24" bike, which is crazy, but the kid just keeps on growing. Finally we went back to REI where the bike he wanted was gone from all stores and online, but he got a Diamondback that he liked instead. Thank you brother....
I don't know how he's going to ride it, or where, but now he has a bike that's not tiny or Buzz Lightyear themed.

Anyone need a small ToysRUs-purchased, Buzz themed, training-wheel-having, bike?

After typing out the trip info, it really relaxed my mind, and I haven't felt the burning NEED to type it or talk about it all the time. Whew. Nice.
But last week I was at Joann fabric and came across 12x12 scrapbooks for $3 each. I bought, um, 15. I"m now going through all the family photos I had saved from those awful overly sticky albums they made in the 70s and 80s (called them magnetic for some bizarre reason), sorting them, and doing a hybrid scrapbook/photo album project thing. I'm SO excited. It feels good to be DOING something about the photos. And it takes away clutter, too; makes me more organized as I go.
teacherlisa1978, I didn't see you there! I love that you adopted. I wish we had done so, and had done so EARLY in the kidlet's life (as we had planned on doing).
I started running by using a Couch to 5K program from cool runnings. Did it to week 4 or 5, realized I wasn't ready to move on. Repeated the weeks until my lungs could keep up (and my leg muscles), and finished the program. Then did it again, this time going for mileage instead of time. (all on the treadmill) Then kept going. Then realized I like the interval method, so I've been experimenting with walk/run intervals that work for me. Still mainly on the treadmill.
I have a 5K on the 8th that will be fun, because last year I walked it with DS, and got what will have to serve as my Before picture. I was 4 months into WW at the time, but I can't find any other pictures. Oh but I have a character meal photo from a few years ago, that might work. Anyway, I'll be getting the photo this year, too (finally ordered last year's back in November because they kept bugging me, LOL) and it will be neat to see the difference. The run is timed, too, so I"ll get to compare it to
Castaway Cay. Of course, CC was flat, while THIS run ends on a long, long uphill.
It starts on a downslope. My luck? Broken leg 5 steps into it.
We shall see.
Of course, I've now had 3 days of b'day celebrations, starting with scads of veggie sushi on Saturday, cake galore on Sunday, and today french fries, ranch dressing, and more cake.

But it's OK. I'm having fun NOW, but it's not continuing. Today the Y was closed, but tomorrow Robert's home (his bonus day off because he worked last weekend in a totally different country) so I can go for a run AND then do my weights workout when we go to the Y for E's swim class.
For right now, though, I deal with the uncomfortable and unusual (anymore) feeling of being too full, while also trying to drink water.
Michele, the therapist doesn't happen to do anything for tinnitus, does she? Maybe vertigo and tinnitus aren't related and it's a stupid question, but then again, maybe it's not that bad of a question. Maybe you could PM me her info, just so I can look into it?
