Hello All--

I recently went to the Disney parks from Oct. 15th-21st and had an amazing time! I love off-season touring!

However, with our limited time, we didn't have the chance to visit the Universal parks. I last visited Universal Studios in 1996 with a school group, and a lot had changed since then. So I'm planning a trip exclusively for the Universal parks.

I'm thinking of going in late January and staying on site for three days and four nights, most likely at the Royal Pacific, as it's the least expensive. I'd like the unlimited Universal Express privilege and Value Season rates. Could someone give me an idea of what the weather would be like? (Warmer than MA, of course, but how warm? Or how cold? Best/worst case scenarios?) If I go, I'm riding the water rides, anyway, if they're all open. I'll bring a change of clothes and/or wear a poncho.

Also, is there a way to find out in advance if rides are going to be closed for maintenance?

And I just thought I'd add that I LOVED BTTF in 1996. It was my favorite ride ever. I honestly didn't find it too rough, and it's quality is (or was) miles beyond Star Tours at Disney. I have read newspaper articles online announcing that the ride is closing. So is it actually closing? It's still on the official website.

I also read that BTTF is in a state of disrepair. That's a shame. I'd hate to see it fall apart. It's rather upsetting. It's a black mark against Universal. I still want to visit, though...I had a great time ten years ago.

To wrap this up, thanks for any info.

First off, welcome.

In late January, the weather should be low 70's during the day, but it can be much colder or much hotter. It's weather. :confused3 It's not the rainy season, anyway.

These boards usually have discussions of maintenance, so you've found a good place to come.

I don't know about BTTF. Apparently there's still some debate about it.

You should have a great time.

Half of BTTF is closed. That much is known. Allegedly the parts for the new ride are there, and are already being installed. BTTF, for all intents and purposes is gone.
Weather? Yeah, hard to say. Worst case scenario: 30's and rainy. November-Feb is a rainy season. Not THE rainy season, but it does happen. Cold weather does happen as well.
What you will more than likely see is mornings in the high 40's warming up to the low 70's. You wont see any warmer than 74...I can pretty much assure that...but then again.
The weather will seem colder if it gets cold because of the humidity, which hasnt been that bad this year. Ask again when it gets to be about two weeks before you go, we'll have a better idea of what the weather should be by then.
