Hi there...we are looking to do Universal for 3 days/2 nights before a family reunion at WDW. We were at Universal about 2 years ago and had a blast. A few questions:

1) we have stayed at HRH twice and loved it...but was thinking of royal pacific for a change of pace. Any thoughts? what is the transportation like to the parks? can you walk like at HRH? Pool area? My boys are 13 & 8.....will they like..or stick to HRH?

2) what would you suggest as transportation to WDW? We will be flying into MCO and then be at Universal before going over to WDW? A Car service? Rental car? shuttles?

3) Any timeframe of when the new simpsons ride will open.

I think that is it for now...thanks!!!

You can take the water taxi's and yes like the HRH you can walk and to get to WDW if you don't want to rent a rental car then I would do the shuttle service and the simpsons ride is due to open in april and when I don't know cause I haven't seen anything on it yet but maybe someone else has.

Royal Pacific is very nice and is just a bit further to walk. IOA will be the closer park of the two. The pool has no slide, so they may not like it quite as well.

You can just hire a taxi to get you to WDW. It is probably the easiest as the bellman will just hail one.

Simpsons is supposed to open in the "spring". No more final info than that right now.

Hello. :goodvibes

1) we have stayed at HRH twice and loved it...but was thinking of royal pacific for a change of pace. Any thoughts? what is the transportation like to the parks? can you walk like at HRH? Pool area? My boys are 13 & 8.....will they like..or stick to HRH?
I like RPR a lot, and I would recommend it highly, but I have not stayed at HRH so I really can't compare the two.

As far as transportation, yes you can just walk to the parks or you can take the boat. We preferred walking (even at night, it's well lit and doesn't take long at all). You can also take a bike-taxi (whatever they're called, a person rides a bike while you sit in the big seats in the back of the bike). :)

The pool area at RPR is great, but I can't compare it to HRH (since I have not been to the HRH pool before). On the plus side, however, not only can you "pool hop" (visit HRH or PBH pools while you are staying at RPR), but they actually seem to encourage it. So, if you don't like the pool at RPR as much, you are encouraged to just walk or ride over to HRH and use their pool. :thumbsup2

If you're going to be in town for a while I typically recommend people rent a car, although that's going to need a bigger budget obviously (not only for car rental and gas, but also parking at the hotels which isn't cheap). I would just rather have a car and be able to drive around leisurely, checking out the great spots on I-Drive (International Drive), the malls, the restaurants, the other attractions, etc.

3) Any timeframe of when the new simpsons ride will open.
No idea, sorry. :(

You're welcome! Have a great trip!!!

Have not stayed at HRH, this year will be our 3rd at RPR, the pool is big and never really seems to be crowded, DD will be 12 this year ,and although there is no slide she loves the pool at RPR, stayed at PBH and while all the hotels are excellent we prefer RPR .
We usually walk to the parks and Citywalk only about 5 to 7 mins, or if there is a water taxi at the dock we would take it

How many of you will be in the room? Many families don't have a problem with the RPR. I think many of them aren't claustrophobic or don't spend any amount of time in the room to care. But, HRH rooms are quite a bit bigger than the RPR rooms. Plus, the RPR doesn't have the pool slide if your boys are into that. Don't get me wrong. I like both HRH and PRR a lot and have stayed at both many times. However, even though it is just me and my husband in the standard RPR room, we find ourselves walking all over each other. If your family doesn't pack its entire bathrooms and closets like my husband does, perhaps you won't have a problem. Since it's only 2 nights, you may like the change of pace of the RPR.

We use a car service. I don't like to mess with Mears due to their multiple pick-ups and the amount of waiting involved. We usually use ****** transportation.

Well, it would seem our favorite company got itself starred out. Sorry.

Well, we know it wasn't the company that pays to sponsor the transportation forum. :)

Does anyone know if the RPR has the room option like HRH - the "deluxe" with a bit more space and a pullout couch? We stayed at HRH last summer and thought it was just OK. We heard every noise from the hallway, and I felt like the pool area was quite crowded and not very relaxing. So, thought we would give RPR a try next time, but with 3 kids we need a bigger room.
Thanks,
Jill

They have kids suites at RPR. They are a lot more expensive though.
