A few questions for the digital experts

I am finally learning my around Paint Shop Pro X but have a few more questions:

Text - When I use the text tool - all my test comes out block unless I use a tiny font size. Are there any fonts that are just like writing, without the block style or do I need to download those? If I download fonts, how do I use them in PSP?

What are thumbs? I realize this isn't a PXP specific question...I noticed with stuff I download, esp from Digitals, that a lot of the zip files come with a file called thumbs.

Also, what is the max number of pictures you use in a layout? I am afraid that I am trying to cram too much in. LOL

Thanks for all of your help,
Jessica

I can't answer your PSP questions (I use PS Elements & PhotoShop CS) and but the "thumbs" are used to allow you to view your files as "Thumbnails" - or mini previews. You don't need to keep those if you don't want. You'll get a notification from Windows asking if you're sure you want to delete them as they're system files. They'll reappear though as soon as you choose Thumbnails in the View menu again.

Your text choices will be as big as however many fonts you have in your windows\fonts directory. There are many places to download free fonts, www.mickeyavenue.com is one. Google for others. Some digital scrapping sites also have fonts available for download. The size will depend on the fonts, so just test font and font size out on your layout to see what you like. Experiment with color and effects too!

Max pictures, really depends on the LO style. I've done some with a lot (my IASW one had about 15) but most tend to have 1-3 on them. I find Disney pages have a couple more per page, since I have so many pics. One of the beautiful things about digital scrapping is that you can resize some of the photos much smaller to let one photo be focal.

Thanks for the advice...

Hey Fran...do you play pogo? I know, a weird question...but I was on another website last night and there was someone named Fran and her signature box had a Mickey in it and in her tags it said that she creates badges and well, I thought of you. =)

One more question - I was looking for a place to have my pages published in a book but I couldn't find any 12 x 12...I found one that was 12 x 13 (forgot the site though, would have to google again) and I found one slightly smaller than 12 x 12, I think on mypublisher. Where do you guys get your books published? Do you resize your layouts to make them fit?

Thanks,
Jessica

I do occasionally play pogo, not so much anymore and I never post on pogo forums any more, so it's been a really long time if it was me. :)

About books, I think there are a couple places that do 12x12: www.shutterfly.com and www.heritagemakers.com might have them, I can't quite remember which had the 12x12.

Heritage Makers does indeed let you make a full-bleed 12 x 12 book. That's the only one I know of off the top of my head.

I made a HM 5 x 5 book once, which turned out ok. I found their software a bit awkward to work with, though. But they're still a relatively new company, so maybe they'll polish things up a bit in the future.

I use Paint Shop Pro 9, not X, but I would guess they are very very similar. For fonts, I tend to use Monotype Cursiva (the exact name escapes me, but that's close enough :) ) It is similar to a cursive handwriting which is why I tend to use it a lot. As for downloading, I once downloaded a Disney font and for the longest time couldn't figure out what happened to it. Well, lo and behold, just the other week, I was going through the list of fonts on PSP for a special project I was working on and there it was!! Somehow it just ended up on my standard list of fonts. So I'm going to assume that happens with every font download - that's the only one I've downloaded so far since PSP already comes with such a huge variety to choose from.

As for # of pictures in a layout, I've seen mostly 1-5 pictures, but occasionally I've seen a collage of numerous pictures and it looks great too! I just wouldn't do it that way too often or it may start to look "cluttered." I would just vary it throughout my book. Try to stay away from having the same number of pics on every single page...

Hope this helps? Any other questions? :)

Yup, same logo. Wow - that is crazy! Small world. I was on badgeaddicts.com looking for pogo bowling tips...can't remember where I saw it, but I immediately thought of you. =) We are pogo addicts at my house. :rotfl2:

Thanks everyone for your tips...gonna go check a few of those websites out.
