Hey, my name is Aubrey, and I'm new. I just filled my application out yesterday, and my interview is tomorrow morning. But I had a couple of questions.

1) I know that the apartments come with free hi-speed internet. I'm guessing this is capable with internal wireless cards? I don't want to get down there and be unprepared, it's my only way (or one of them) of staying in touch with my boyfriend.
2) Are there televisions in the apartments? I also saw that cable was included, but in the apartments I didn't see a television.
3) Am I correct in assuming that all we pay is the one fee to get down there, the fee for textbooks, and the fee for rent? If so, what a bargain! (I'm a waitress, so I'll be bringing about 200 dollars in ones for laundry).

That's about it for questions. But I'm a little scared, I'm shy (at first) and then ridiculously outgoing, so hopefully I won't have trouble making friends. Also, this will be my first extended trip away from my parents, how sad! I'll be celebrating my 21st birthday while down here if I get accepted. Whats your best cure for homesickness?

Why hello there! Good luck with your interview!

Anyway, on to the questions.
1) All we have in our apartment right now is a very short little cable by the desk. We're (the roomies and I) are planning on getting our own wireless router just to make life simple, but occasionally we can pick up unsecured wireless connections.

2) There are no televisions in Vista Way apartments, and I don't think with Chatham either. I have no clue about the Commons.

3) I don't know about the fee for textbooks, but rent is taken out of your paycheck each week automatically (the amount depends on how many rooms your apartment has.). As for laundry, they have laundry cards that you put all of your money on and you just put the card in the washer and/or dryer. And the card pretty much accepts any bill denomination as far as I know. My roommate and I share a card, and we just stick a $20 on there every week or so.

And no worries, no matter where you stay or where you work, you'll meet and become friends with a ton of people. As for homesickness, I've never really had it, but I've been told if you bring lots of pictures, maybe a few things that you really love (blanket, stuffed animal, ect...) and your cell phone, you should be alright.

Feel free to ask anything else!
And again, good luck with your interview!

Hi Aubrey! Welcome to the boards! I will try to answer your questions as best I can...

1) All you should need is an Ethernet cord unless one of your roomies or all of you go in on a wireless router, then you would need a wireless card.

2) There are not televisions in the apartments unless one of your roomies brings one, or you can all chip in and buy one when you get there on move in day. They are pretty cheap at Wal-Mart now.

3) I believe you pay the $75 to reserve your spot, then when you get down there every week rent is taken out. If you take classes you will have to buy your own books.

As far as making friends, it is so easy to make friends on the program. Everyone else is in the same boat as far as leaving loved ones behind. Three of my roommates became my best friends and two of them are going to be bridesmaids at my wedding. I still keep in touch with some people I worked with too. As far as homesickness, I didn't have a problem nor did I know anyone who did. You will be working and going to the parks and hanging out with friends, you almost want have any time to think about being homesick. So this is just my experience, but I hope it helps a bit.

Thanks for the info, and I love your Tolkien quote. I'm a huge LOTR fan. And the only thing I'm really upset about is having to leave my cat at home, as stupid as that sounds. Haha, she's 17 and she sleeps on my bed every night. It'll be different.

Yeah, I love the whole poem, but that part of it I like the most. And I know how you feel about the kitty, I have two back at home, and I miss them both way too much, I live off the pictures my parents send me of them.

Hi there!
1) To get the internet, a router is required.
2) No. You would need to bring your own tv.
3) Yes. There is the fee when you accept, any fees for classes (if you take any), rent, and bills for the laundry.

Is any kind of router okay, and is it hard to set up or do you just plug it in? I'm kind of bad with computer things, but I know that my laptop has internal wireless. Also, as far as fees for classes, what are they? Just the textbook charge, or is there a charge for taking the class as well?

The router is pretty easy to set up.

As for the classes, if it's one of the Disney classes the fee is just for the books.
