A few questions about VWL

Hi,

Thinking about staying at VWL. A few questions...

1. I am looking at pictures on All Ears - are they due to be rehabbed? They just look a little on the older side (but cozy!).

2. Other than during the holidays, are they difficult to book?

3. Is there only 1 dedicated DVC pool?

4. Are they quiet?

Thanks. Anything else you can share I would love to hear!

1. They have changed out some furniture in recent years, but I don't know of a total rehab happening anytime soon. Though it's my home resort, I will admit that it could use some sprucing up; however, it still is comfortable, well-maintained, and yes, cozy. ;)
2. Given that VWL is one of the smallest resorts, they can be tough to book outside the 7-month point, but as you point out, especially during the Christmas holiday season. That being said, I've had good luck in the past with getting into VWL within 7 months before I owned there--waitlisting has worked well for me. Still, there is no guarantee.
3. Yes, there is only one DVC pool, Hidden Springs. It is mere one-minute walk from the main pool which, depending on your desires, may be a good or bad thing. It is almost always quieter than the main pool as it has no slide (though it does have cool bubbling "spring" in various spots in the pool) and is significantly smaller than the main pool. There is also a jacuzzi pool co-located with Hidden Springs.
4. By "they," if you mean the Villas, then yes they are quiet, at least relatively speaking. One of the best things about VWL is the fact it's small and intimate compared to most other Disney resorts. I've stayed at VWL several times over the past few years, and not once have I had a noise issue in the rooms nor the pool. The main lobby is quite noisy, but then again, it IS a lobby, and it IS an exciting place to be with all the amazing architecture, theming, indoor spring, restaurants, mercantile, and the like.

Here are just a few things I love about VWL beyond the aforementioned serenity:
a) the walking trail to FW--you take it from the bus stop and it's approx. one mile each way
b) the nature trail that starts out behind the bike/boat rental area--it, too, heads in the general direction of FW. In fact, you can hook up with the paved walking trail from the nature trail after about 1/3 of a mile.
c) the beach--great place to watch EWP and catch glimpses of Wishes (can't see the whole thing, but you can catch the higher explosions)
d) the boat to MK
e) the music and theming going hand-in-hand. . .you see lanterns flickering along the covered walkway between the main lodge and hear crickets, along with some majestic western-themed music
f) sitting on a rocker on the VWL porch while having a libation
g) Artist Point

Good luck and enjoy! :thumbsup2

The Villas at The Lodge do have somewhat of an older feel with a darker atmosphere - exactly like a Lodge in one of the great National Forests! A great feel! (If you need up to date and bright, try SSR)

Getting in between Thanksgiving and New Year’s may be tough, as so many of the owners have figured out that it is a great time to be at the Lodge.

Don't forget to try out the Carolwood Pacific Room some afternoon when you need a place away from the hub-bub. Away from you villa, but not quite a public feel, this room allows one to absorb the fire, feel the love of Disney, and take a snooze if need be! (Unless there is a Groupie meet going on - if so, just join in the fun!)

I also love Wilderness Lodge, we haven't stayed at the DVC rooms yet, we are scheduled to stay there in July, we own at BLT. The pools are great, although the main pool is usually more crowded and children laughing or yelling, in a good way. The pool at the DVC is very nice and quiet, if that is what your looking for. We did check out the DVC rooms last time we were in Disney and I agree it is like being at one of the National Parks which we enjoy.
I'm sure you will love the lodge and all it offers.

I could not agree more with the above comments....love this resort. It's so peaceful and serene. Here is a video taken from our balcony one afternoon :

Oh Wilderness Lodge and Villas - how I love thee!

DW And I honeymooned at Wilderness Lodge and I would LOVE to own there - but we already have three home resorts, and we are expecting! (HAHA We just passed ROFR on HHI!)

So add that up - 4 home resorts before May LOL We're addicted....

But anyway - WE LOVE 'The Lodge'

Is it so beautiful, amazing peaceful and cozy places to relax, the theme, the music, the details, the GRAND lobby - OH how I love Wilderness Lodge!

We stayed at Wilderness Lodge on the the trip that we bought our very first DVC points at Animal Kingdom Villas in 2008.We were upgraded to club level on that trip - it the first vacation that I planned for my parents - so the upgrade was awesome!!!

We have spent one night at the Villas in a Studio - and we were on the first floor on the front side of the building facing what we now call the Bunny Lawn. There were dozens of bunnies there waiting on us when we woke up! They were so cute!

I really hope to spend a week at Wilderness Lodge sometime soon - my soul needs it! :cloud9:

We LOVE Hidden Springs pool it really does feel like you are in a natural hot spring - what a genius idea and theme for that specific pool!

Wilderness Lodge is without a doubt the best resort anywhere on property! It just transports you to a different time, a different place, and a different frame of mind!

Oh the Lodge!

Thanks everyone for your responses... I had an ulterior motive in asking as I think we may be making it our 2nd DVC Home! :woohoo:

I was there this past July, and at BWV last week. Honestly, I thought the VWL unit was in better shape. They are "rustic", and that might make them look older, but the unit I was in seemed to be well cared for.

3. Is there only 1 dedicated DVC pool?

Just to be clear, the quiet pool on the DVC side is open to all WL and VWL guests. It is not "VWL guest specific". That's true of any DVC resort that shares with a hotel.

However, it is usually much less crowded than the main pool.

As others have said, VWL is a great little resort. It is heavily themed, which works for some and is not liked much by others (too dark, too woodsy, etc).

Good luck with your reservation! :)

I agree, but the sign as you approach the DVC Pool from the main pool (Disney Vacation Club) and the small bridge has a way of turning many away. (Suggestive barriers will do that, but not often enough!) Years ago it did just that to us! Oh how little we knew then about our future adventures at VWL!

If the type theming, arrangement, and relative solitude of VWL entices you, I believe you'd love having them as your second home. While all the resorts have their own unique nature, VWL has always been the one I've loved. I bought SSR years ago, but the Lodge called to me more. I've stayed in most of the resorts, and they've each been wonderful, but the Lodge remained my sentimental favorite. So, I bought there last year. You're welcome anytime over at the VWL Lovers' thread where, as Muushka mentioned, you can find out tons of info and insights (and pics!) regarding our lovely VWL. ;)

Not a great pic of the quiet pool...but it's all I can find right now....
