A Few Negatives on My First Trip To DLRP

Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed my first ever visit to DLRP, but thought I'd just point out a few 'negatives'....

'Fanatasy Land Breakfast'

Complete waste of time. This was in with our holiday package and the breakfast is only slightly different to the continental breakfast at our Hotel (Cheyenne) in that there was a fruit salad added.
This was on our first morning there and rushed to get there for our alloted time of 9.00. We could have got there at anytime up to 10.00 but it really wasn't worth the trek, would have been better off having breakfast at the hotel.

Star Tours

My God, this 'ride' s as old as the hills and doesn't it show.
I've seen more conving effects on a flight sim on a games console!
Also it's VERY uncomfortable as you get banged about a lot.

Space Mountain 2

Not a bad ride, worst of all the 'white knuckle' rides, but just TOO dark (you lose all sense of perspective and the effect is lost) and again TOO uncomfortable, leaves you quite sore afterwards

'Pushing and Shoving' (not a ride or an attraction but not far off!)

Mainly at the bus queues and at breakfast, but you get used to it and I suppose some can be forigven with the heat and the hassles with their getting push chairs and kids on board or feeding their families at breakfast!

Ants!

Had 'em in my hotel room every day. Not a swarm and I could live with 'em.
Have sugary food and drink in your hotel room at your peril !

Wild West Show

I guess the kids'll love it, but it didn't do much for me. Just a lot of people racing round on horses in costume, no real stunts as such. The buffalo/bison are good and stole the show IMO. 'Bill' and 'Annie' hardly did a thing!

Not worth the £30+ asking price and definatley wouldn't do it again.

That's about it, not much compared to the many positives and id defo go again and to the same Hotel.

your negatives don't seem to bad, I did not enjoy star tours as it made me feel sick and SM2 as its too rough, I usually love roller coasters as well.

glad you had a good time overall.

I agree that your negatives aren't too negative!! ;) And I also agree with most of them!!

The Fantasyland breakfast certainly isn't anything special - though it does mean that you can get into the park earlier than the masses, and at no extra cost. :thumbsup2

Star Tours and Space Mountain are rough rides - the latter in particular!! But I still like them, and I'm still quite impressed by Star Tours - you must have played much impressive game simulators than I have!!! :teeth:

I do think Buffalo Bill's is expensive - others may disagree! I haven't visited since '92 - I'm just too tight to pay that price!!

I don't know why but I was under the impression that I was going to get one free 'character breakfast' in the package and am sure the the Thomsons agent mentioned this when I booked. I even told my partner before hand that we'd be having one breakfast with the characters and it would probably be better food then the usual 'continetal breakfast'.

Anyway as a Disney newbie the fact that it clearly said 'Fantasyland Breakfast' on my tickets meant nothing to me, I just assumed that was the 'character breakfast' DOH!

I must have been reading too may brochure, books and web pages and somehow 'Character breakfast' stuck beforehand.

I even got the lady in the restaraunt to dig out my ticket and the girl at the Hotel reception !

This just added to the dissapointment of which was just a 'glorified Hotel Breakfast' !

i agree with the Star Tours comment, this was the ONLY ride in the park that made me feel sick.

I've never heard of that before but if you are sure the agent mentioned it I'd go back to them :)

Glad you enjoyed yourself! :goodvibes

I also agree that your negatives are not too bad!

Star Tours is one of my fave rides but I know lots of people find it makes them queasy. And I'm far too much of a wimp to ride SM2.

We all enjoyed Buffalo Bill's but I agree it is expensive. I'm glad we went but we wouldn't go again either.

Shame about your disappointment over the Fantasyland breakfast not being a character one. Did you have a character meal during your trip?

And now that we've all read your negative thoughts, I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say we would love to read your positive ones!!! ;) Please...... :worship:

I'm glad that you overall enjoyed your first trip to DLP.

Maby we all think Buffalo Bill is expensive but if you realyse it comes with a compleet meal the price is quite normal.
Just think how mutch a diner kost.

Sorry to hear you had negatives, but i do agree with you over some.

In 5 visits we've never visited the wild west show, unable to justify the cost. would rather spend the money on a nice meal for us all

That is a good point!! ::yes:: I still can't bring myself to pay the money though!!! :teeth:

I agree! What were the highlights? :cheer2:

Having two small boys (and one overgrown boy!) - they all loved Star Tours since they get to see the Star Wars characters. I guess it is a little old and outdated but still we think it is a fun ride (and no queues).

I have never done the FL breakfast so can't comment on that. We did do the Wild West Show and thought it was huge fun simply because we REALLY got into the spirit of things and shouted until our throats were raw! We were surrounded by glum-faced families who were determined not to bang a fork or shout a 'Come y'all' - IMHO you get the most from it if you really enter into the pantomime spirit :teeth: The food was bloomin awfull though. And now that we have done it, been there, got the hat - we probably wouldn't do it again.

So what things did you love about DLRP?

TOO MANY! Far outweigh the 'negative ones'.

I'll get back to you on that, WC footy's on at the moment!

I think you've made some very valid points there

GMF breakfast - IMO - great for getting in the park early, As for the breakfast we tend to grab one or two croissants and a glass of orange juice and go.
Star Tours - the family love it, I have to close my eyes - it just makes me feel sick.
Buffalo Bill - we've done this twice, for pure entertainment, the food does leave a lot to be desired. In total agreeement with Quack on this one, who just happened to be at the same show as us last visit, you've got to forget any inhibitions and throw yourself into it, to get the most out of it.
SM2 - can't comment as I've not yet plucked up the courage to ride it.

I don't know if the Cheyenne has an ongoing ant problem, don't think I've ever heard anyone else mention it, perhaps you were just unlucky. It is a lovely hotel though don't you think - we thought the theming was superb. :)

Glad that your positives far outweigh the negatives :thumbsup2

Glad to hear you enjoyed your trip overall, looking forward to hearing all about the better points!

OK, the 'positive points'...

Hotel Cheyenne

The service, friendliness of staff ('cast'), amenities, cleanliness and just general wild west authenticity was superb. Very impressed overall with the hotel.

Again the Disney cast were very helpful and efficient, cleanliness of the park, toilets (there was never one too far away!), free cold drinking water fountains (Disney being Disney could have made a mint on selling bottled water!)

Not even a single cigarette butt on the floor, which was surprising as there were a lot of smokers there...Europeans
(another negative point and am surprised there are so many smoking areas.
I guess it's only a matter of time until the whole of the park and hotels become completely no smoking).

DLP
No 'dodgy sideshows' (ala Blackpool!)

Quality of gifts was top notch (but not always the price!)

Purchased gifts to Hotel service.

The parade (as a noob I was expecting only to watch this once and have done with it buyt could just not get enough of it, saw it 4 out of the 5 days we we there!).

The characters

Rides/Attractions...

Thunder Mountain, Phantom Manor, Indiana Jones (what's the Disney connection?), Small World, Peter Pan, Snow White, Pinocchio, Buzz Lightyear. Pretty much all of those not listed in my 'negativer points'

Quality of the 'junk food'!

DL MS

Ditto with the cleanliness, service etc

The different kind of experience than DLP, but equally, if not better than DLP overall.

The Cinema Parade (as above!)

Rock n Rollercoaster ride (fave ride out of both parks)

The 'live shows' and audience particpation (including adults, even me!)
This place was full of great surprises and I didn't really know what to expect (other than the tram tour) with attractions like Cinemagique, Animagique etc.
On my first visit I got pulled into the 'follies show' outside the Disney store in Studio 1. I had no idea what was going on or anything about the daily show at the time and was taken completely by surprise. I was just in the right place at the right time and enjoyed every minute of it!

Phew! I'm sure there's more but I'd defo go again although there wouldn't be the 'surprise element'. I also regret not having my pic taken with any of the characters, which I'll make a priority next time.

Can't wait to go again. Probaly go peak summer next time to catch the Fantillusion parade.

Again, I'm glad that you enjoyed your trip to DLP.

Sounds like you had a great time. I cant wait till we go in August

Normally, a fruit salad should also be included in the Cheyenne breakfast; we had it at the Santa Fe.
I don't realy get teh waste of time thing. We try to book it, because then we are sure we will get up at a decent hour, we get to take great pictures on Main Street and with the castle, and you can go on some Fantasyland rides before the park opens...
One has to eat breakfast anways, and I always find it more relaxing at the park compared to the hotel (for GMF, once the people are there, no other people will be added, at the hotel, it's a constant come-and-go, I thought it was very hectic)

Star Tours

My God, this 'ride' s as old as the hills and doesn't it show.

Join the club :)

Space Mountain 2

Not a bad ride, worst of all the 'white knuckle' rides, but just TOO dark (you lose all sense of perspective and the effect is lost) and again TOO uncomfortable, leaves you quite sore afterwards
I preferred the previous version, with the Jules Verne details, but I still like this one. The themeing is a rollercoaster in the dark, so... :) And I think the effect is just created because you loose all sense of perspective! But indeed, you leave quite sore afterwards... and after going on it 6 times in a row, I could hardly move, bwahaha!

'Pushing and Shoving' (not a ride or an attraction but not far off!)

Mainly at the bus queues and at breakfast, but you get used to it and I suppose some can be forigven with the heat and the hassles with their getting push chairs and kids on board or feeding their families at breakfast!

You forget the fighting in order to greet a character

Ants!

Had 'em in my hotel room every day. Not a swarm and I could live with 'em.
Have sugary food and drink in your hotel room at your peril !

Uck! Thank Mickey that never happened to us!

Not worth the £30+ asking price and definatley wouldn't do it again.

I woudl like to see the show, but I just can't get yself to buy tickets, because then I will or miss an evening IN the park, or an evening in one of the restaurants (I like the fine restaurants too much!)
