A few hours in Boston...

If you only had 4 hours or so to spend in Boston, what would you do? We will have 3 kids with us, ages 5, 9, and 15, so we're trying to find something to appeal to everyone. (We're right outside of Philadelphia, and I don't think we necessarily want to do the typical historical stuff -- I think it would feel too much like a school trip to them! )
Is Faneuil Hall / Marketplace (not sure what the exact name is) a good option?
Thanks!

Depending on where you are, the Aquarium or the Museum of Science would satisfy those age groups. Or the USS Constitution. I think there are Harbor cruises that bring you to the Constitution and let you get off and look around/do a tour and then bring you back. That might be fun, if the weather is good.

Faneuil Hall is nice but it has become very mall-like, IMO, in the last few years. Still nice, but not different.

Or a duckboat tour is fun. I don't know if they have those in Philly but everyone loves them!

Have fun!

Not sure how long they take but what about a Duck Tour. You get to see some of the city highlights and it's something that the kids would enjoy.

Thanks! Those are some great ideas! We do have the Duck Tour in Philly, but they're always fun.

Pooh's Pixie ~ In the eyes of my 15-year-old daughter, "mall-like" would be a dream come true, although I don't think her father and brother would agree.

It's an okay place to take a stroll through, but I bet your kids might find it boring. My 15 year old daughter likes to walk arouond that area for about fifteen minutes, then she's ready to go. She LOVES to shop, but the shops there aren't ones that hold any appeal for her, although there are a few clothing stores that she did find to browse in.

The Duck Tours in Boston are excellent and I highly recommend the Museum of Science, (big place with lots of things for all ages), and the Aquarium, (huge multi-level tank with lots of sea critters).

Do you have 4 hours in Boston itself, or 4 hours in-between flights in-and-out of Logan Airport? If the latter, then you'll really not have enough time to see or do anything in Boston. If the former, I think the Museum of Science is a great option; you've got the flexibility of not being tied to a specific schedule that way.

Actually, we are driving and meeting friends in Boston before going on to our final destination, so we really aren't tied to a strict time schedule per se. We've allotted between 4-5 hours to spend there, but really no more than that.

I'm going to run all the suggestions by the family and see what everyone says...
Thanks again for all ideas! :sunny:

What part of Boston will be most convenient to you?
I think the Duck Tour will be the most fun, if it's a nice day. If it's not, the Aquarium will make for a nice day.

Also, the Museum of Science and the Aquarium have Imax theaters.
MOS has laser shows too.

Yes that is good, there is also the Aquarium, or the Science Museum.]

Renee, I just noticed that you live in Merrimack. I used to live there, on Belmont Drive. My best friend owns a dance studio there and still lives up there. Her hubby lives down here with us.

I agree that the Aquarium, Museum of Science or Duck tour would be good options. You can actually hot onto the Duck Tour right outside the museum of Science.

Enjoy!
