My last trip down... I included the week I just got home from as well.

1st. I LOVE the green lanyards. I think Disney did a fantastic job on this one. A lanyard only for the kids to trade off of. I liked it so much I peppered the lanyards with a few LE's of my own... I can't say enough about these.

2nd... The amount of CM's with lanyards seems to be up. And the amount of good pins on them (I even did a few lanyard trades) also seemed to be better.

3rd. The places to trade.
A... I think DTD has done a good job with the tables but need to work on the light. Other than a few tables you cannot see a thing.

B... The Contemp is still okay but I felt trapped by the fence and the regulars that just grab a table and sit there and use it as a social event. It made it very hard to trade and to talk to anyone new. We where stuck using the floor and for an old guy like me that took all the fun out of it. I only stayed here for less than an hour. I found it much better at DTD and I also found less of the heavy hitters at DTD and more at the Contemp...

C... CBR... Disney took care of the problem here. I have to agree with them. It was a mistake to hold it here as the area was WAY to small. And if I was paying for a room there and tried to eat in there I too would complain. Disney could have handled it a little better and the pin board that had planed a meet and greet there should have informed them they had a meet and greet planed for there.

D... All Star Sports... By far the best place. It was big enough for the social aspect of pin trading and to allow new traders to walk around and look and sit at tables. It is also close to a place to grab a drink and a bite to eat. I really like it here the best of the resorts...

E.... Pin Central... Okay why is this place so ignored? I know standing outside is not fun but they have all that inside area in the old Pizza place and great light with plenty of tables and room.... Seems to me Disney could and should play this area up more. Seems like a waste.

4.... P.I.N's... I like P.I.N's for it allowed me to have some low LE's to trade that where not sold at the parks. But I ran into a lot of people who treat these like rack pins. They kept saying you bought that as a buy it now so it is only a $10 to $14 dollar pin... Okay I agree... But when I asked this same person to trade his Mickey for Prez for a LE 500 Stitch pin he said I was nuts... Why would he trade an LE 1000 mystery pin for that? I said it was a good deal. A $12 pin for an $8 dollar pin... By his logic I explained to him he was making out... Be careful here folks. Some of these pins are highly sought after and some people will do what ever it takes to get them. Not all are going to be the "HOT" pin but they are still low LE's and hard to get and very EXPENSIVE...

Over all I was very happy with the way pin trading has gone... I would like to thank some people...

Jim Mathews... There are no words to express what you have done and how I feel about you. You are the MAN!!!! There is you and then everyone else.

Scoop.... You have done more for pin trading than anyone I know. You make sure all feel good and while I know Scoop is a character and the man behind him is paid to do a job... I also know the man behind him cares about all of us. Thank you for all you have done and see you around Main St USA.

Larry... and his Mod Squad at www.dizneypins.com you all have done a fantastic job in informing us and putting together a great cruise.

Joette (Grandma)... and her Moderators at www.dizpins.com you have also done an outstanding job informing us and keeping trading fair....

But my BIGGEST THANKS... Goes to all of the Cast Members and to all of you. You have all made this hobby fun. The CM's have shown great patience with all of us and we should make sure we go out of our way to just say thank you to them. Even if you are not trading a pin. Take a second and just say thank you.

Very interesting Nat...I was at WDW for a long weekend from Dec 4-8 and my observations were a bit different...

I agree that the green lanyards are a great idea. There are too many pushy adults taking pins from the kids...geez, let the kids have some fun!

I disagree with you regarding the number of CM wearing lanyards. My entire weekend, I kept thinking "they must be phasing out CM trading" because CM wearing lanyards were few and far between. I found this to be the case in each park I visited. I guess it just differs from week to week.

The reason I don't trade at Pin Central anymore is I hate carrying the heavy pin bag around the parks, but in the "old days" when I had a smaller trading bag, I did my best trading both there and at WOD. Contemp is usually too crowded and too dark for me...

I hope they keep pin trading going at WDW...I have been concerned because they haven't announced any pin events for next year. Anyone heard anything about that?

I also think the green lanyards are a good idea. But it needs to be "advertised" a bit more to the kids. I have told a few about them. (And even wished I had a kid with me because there were some nice stuff on there LOL)

As for the Contemporary: It had the feeling of a Flea Market. People setting up and showing their wares. Granted I had my best trading night ever this past Friday... but that was with visitors (Yes Nat, I actually traded!)

All stars is the best of all worlds. Food, drink and pin trading. There are also alot of people there that ask questions. A great place to assimilate..err...teach others about the hobby

I had heard from a "suit" at MGM that there will be some type of a paid pin event on March 27. The name somthing like "Lights! Cameras! Pins!

Hi, Nat!

Thanks for giving us your "filled with experience" view of the state of pin trading from you recent trip!

I appreciate especially you "speaking up" about the prevailing opinion that DA P.I.N.S are just not that "valuable". I have become very frustrated by other traders trying to convince me that the trading value of these pins somehow doesn't compare to other low LE pins, or otherwise "highly sought after" pins, and I haven't been able to put my finger on how or why this perception got started or is prevailing. I wondered if it was because they are so consistently available for purchase (twice a week) and/or the price (which isn't cheap in comparison to what you can buy at the parks, but is cheap compared to some other regular DA pins), and now that you've said it too, I think you might be right.

I have posted about this problem "elsewhere" and been pretty much told I should "chill"; that these are just "pins"--but you're right--nobody that is asking for my 250 Tinks or Stitch is willing to give up their MIckey for Prez or Wet Paint or Jail Scene! I am consistently offerred rack pins or other varying size LE pins, none of which even comes near the value of my DA P.I.N.S. either in size or in trading "desirability". I am holding on to them, or will sell them, but I will not trade them for something that is very obviously not comparable in value.

Thanks for the opportunity to vent, Nat, and thanks for your insights.

Leslie... I wonder if it was due to the fact that it was so close to and the week of Thanksgiving... Maybe they just stuck more out there.

Just back after 10 days and the green lanyards were great for the kids. My 9 yr. old daughter got lucky one of the first few days of our trip and traded for one of the Safety pins and then that was her quest for the remainder of the trip as far as pins went. She wound up with 7 of them and our last day at EPCOT for a few hours before catching our flight home, when entering the park she looked at a regular CM black lanyard and when he saw the other 6 Safety pins on her lanyard, he pulled one from his pocket for her to trade for! She had a great time pin trading this trip and wasn't near as shy and timid as previous pin trading trips, but then maybe it comes with age too or that it was her third trip actually trading pins???

I am just starting pin trading and was thinking about purchasing a DIS lanyard. Would there be a problem with the color of it being green? It sounds like WDW has green lanyards for kids only.

No problem... As long as your not a CM and they use a kelly green lanyard and the DIS is Lime Green....
