If Charlize Theron played her what name would you suggest they call her?

I favour, JANE BOND! :teeth:

They can do a female spy movie. But it won't be James Bond any more.

I could imagine some sort of alternate universe. Stuff is reimagined all the time. Battlestar Galactica changed the gender of a major character. There was talk of a black James Bond with Colin Salmon, who appeared in three Bond movies. A former coworker (English BTW) thought he'd make an excellent choice.

Unless I'm mistaken, in Fleming's universe designations like "M," "Q," and "007" are titles, not appellations. So Nigel Codswollop can rise through the ranks of MI:6 and, when he needs a disguised identity, can be "007" as far as his bosses are concerned, and can assume the name "James Bond" when he's working. When Codswollop dies or retires or moves on, another spy - say, Emily Nottinghamshireboltonupontyne - can take on the designation "007" and take on whatever name he or she wants.

I don't think they should make "James Bond" female, however I have no problem with them making a movie about a female 00-Agent, or even 007 if she is Bond's replacement. I mean, why not? Then again, I'd just like them to make an actually good 007 movie again, which they haven't in a long time as far as I'm concerned.

Mostly agree. But I really liked Skyfall.

I do believe 007 is a title, but James Bond is the person's name (maybe not his birth name, but not a title anyone can use). I know there is some fan debate on the subject, but I believe there is only one "James Bond" as a person, though he is not the first Agent 007.

I never saw Skyfall. At some point I just checked out of the franchise after a string of disappointments. They're not spy movies anymore. Honestly, I don't think the concept works as well in the present day without the backdrop of the Cold War. If I were in charge of the next Bond film it would be set in the 1960's and very heavily stylized toward the era. That's just my personal taste though.

I have no objection to changing the gender, or Charlize in the role.

But I've been itching to see Idris Elba play Bond for so long, it's going to be hard to be immediately happy with anyone but him.
