Day 2 - Tuesday 02 March 2010.
After a busy but enjoyable day on Monday, we got up about 7am to make sure that we were at the park gates for EMH. The kids had no problems getting up this morning
I went out to get breakfast whilst the rest of the family were getting showered and dressed. For those that havent stayed at the Davy Crockett Ranch before, breakfast is served at a small hut within the confines of your own area. You walk down and they give you a box of croissants, Pain au Chocolat, jams, spreads, tea, coffee and a huge baguette. Id heard stroies about there not being enough food for everyone, or the food wasnt good enough. Ill be honest, we had no problems. There was plenty of food to go around and by the end of the week we had a small stock-pile from which we could have opened up our own Disneyland bakery
The kids loved the hot chocolate and on a cold March morning, so did I.
We ate and spoke to the kids about the plans for the day. Hayley and I spoke about how we were going to combat the constant wide-eyes and Id really like that from the numerous shops around the resort. As we sat there eating, we told the kids that on Friday (as its the last day), they would each be allowed to buy one thing that they really liked from any of the shops. (At this point I was praying Emily wouldnt see the £22000 glass castle at any point.
) We told them that they could by all means look around the shops, but that we wouldnt buy anything until Friday. This wasnt strictly true as the second we got into the park that morning, we bought autograph books and pens for each of them, but we told them we would.
We drove the short distance to the entrance of Disneyland and within a few minutes were standing looking at the castle in awe again. We decided that we were going to make our way to Buzz first as Dan really liked the look of it. I love this ride and even after a couple of years of being open, it still looks brand new. I found a Hidden Mickey in Buzz as well, so I was pleased with myself! I pointed it out to Jamie and he looked at me like Id grown another head. I explained the whole story of Epcot and why Hidden Mickeys were now a huge part of Disney and every 5 seconds from that point on, I was having to tell him to catch us up as he was looking in every nook and cranny for a Hidden Mickey.
We walked round to Fantasyland and we went on the carousel. I slipped on the stirrups getting onto my horse and really hurt my knee when I smashed it on the armour of my horse. After (and Im very proud of this) managing to not swear out loud, the pain subsided a bit and we all had a great time.
The Disney Character Express could be heard in the background, so we made our way through the side of the castle and walked onto Main Street where the kids met Jafar, Donald, Daisy and Minnie again. Hayley was a blur to me as she ran in the direction of a slightly depressed looking character to give him a hug and cheer him up. Eeyore was one of Hayley and Emilys favourites and he kept popping up throughout the week.
We then took a walk over to one of my favourite rides in the whole park - Pirates of the Carribean. Now (unashamedly), Im a bit of a geek when it comes to Disney trivia. I told Jamie how the movie was the very first ride-inspired film that had ever been made. Jamie (I think to humour me) looked very impressed and on we went. Now, Jamie has never been a big fan of rides with drops (roller-coasters and the like), but I thought that if I told him about the drop on this, he would be more concerned about that and not actually enjoy himself. (I know this, because I used to be the same
) Anyway, we went on, the drop wasnt too bad and he really enjoyed it as did the rest of the family. Dan and Emily are little daredevils and had their hands up as we went down the drop. They love things like that.
I was suprised at how busy the park was as I had believed March to be quite quiet. There were big queues for everything though and Hayley and I discussed our next plan of action whilst on POTC.
As the weather was good (temperature apart), we decided that we would take a walk around Adventure Land. Ill be honest, I have been to Disneyland a few times and I never realised just how much there was to see in this area of the park. You could speand hours walking around and getting lost within all the long grass, bamboo and caves. It is an amazing place and we loved it. The Swiss Family Robinson tree house is great fun to walk around and the kids also loved being able to go inside Skull Rock.
Lunch was next up and a quick detour over to Caseys where the Hot Dogs never fail to disappoint.
Phantom Manor was next up. Everyone loved it. Emily was a big fan of the singing heads and Dan was awestruck with the Green Witch. (He still asks me if I know how they did it
).
We decided that we were all going to go on Thunder Mountain as we were in the area. Jmaie, not being a fan of roller-coasters, was quite reluctant, but, to his credit, he said he would go on. We waited for about an hour as the queue was massive, but we made it on and Emily drove
. Jamie quickly announced that this was now his favourite ride ever and we would be making a few stops there again by the end of the week.
We saw a lot of characters in Frontierland, but couldnt get near them because of the amount of people, so I told Hayley to distract the kids for 10 minutes whilst I went to City Hall to book a character breakfast for the next morning.
We took in a lot of the scenery around Frontierland and jumped onto the train to head round to Discoveryland as Jamie wanted to attempt to beat me on Buzz. (I say attempt - he managed - convincingly!) In true dad style, I told him that if he beat me again, he wouldnt be allowed to buy anything on Friday. He apologised, but I dont think he meant it
We headed out of the park towards closing time and decided that we would take a drive back to Davy Crocketts to go for a swim and relax for a bit. The kids loved the pool (although it was quite cold) and we grabbed some food from the restaurant before making our way back to the cabin to look at some of our photos and let the kids decide what they wanted to do the next day.
