Aug 20 - dinner at Yak and Yeti

We drove over to AK and were surprised again at how empty the place was. Fay had definitely washed out the parks. We picked up our wristband and headed for Asia for Yak and Yeti.
We were really looking forward to it because we had been to Yak and Yeti shortly after it had opened in early December and had liked the food so much.
When we entered the restaurant there were quite a few people waiting to be seated, but they did not seem to have a reservation as we were seated immediately after we had checked in. I had not even taken off my poncho by then!
We were taken to the small room overlooking the walkways and seated at a small table on the right when you enter the room. Our server was there fast to tell us what we could order on the DDP and that the Brownie Sundae counted as dessert for two to share. Well, that wasn't on our list to begin with, so no disappointment.
We started out with some drinks. Tom chose the Everest Avalanche, Bacardi Light Rum mixed with Banana, Strawberry and Mango Flavours. Very yummy!!

IMG_7735.jpg

I had the Tropical Daiquiri strawberry flavour. I liked it VERY much. I don't usually drink alcoholic drinks, but enjoy those drinks with the little paper umbrellas on vacation very much! And this one didn't even have an umbrella :lmao:

IMG_7734.jpg

For our starter we chose to share the Dim Sum Basket - Pork pot stickers, shrimp siu mai, cha su bao, and pork sie mai steamed on a banana leaf with some soy lime dipping sauce. First time we tried this and it was very good. Finger licking good!

IMG_7740.jpg

Tom then decided to try the Baby Back Ribs - slow-roasted ribs, hoisin BBQ sauce, chicken fried rice, sweet chili slaw. I tried a bit and he was right - there was nothing to complain about - these were very good ribs.

IMG_7747.jpg

In December Tom had had the Tempura Shrimp and the taste I got then made ME want them this time. But there was also meat to be considered, so why not taking the best of both worlds and go for the Shaoxing Steak and Shrimp - skirt steak, tempura-battered shrimp, jasmine rice, stir-fried vegetables and chili plum dipping sauce. The steak was done just right, tender and juicy. The tempura shrimp were crisp and they tasted just heavenly dipped into the chili plum sauce. The rice was just that - rice and the stir fried veggies were a nice addition.

IMG_7741.jpg

IMG_7742.jpg

For dessert we both opted for the Fried Wontons - Skewers of fresh pineapple and cream cheese wontons, vanilla ice cream, honey vanilla drizzle. What can be said about it - we cleaned our plates, VERY CLEAN!!!!!
Only thing that I did not like - vanilla ice cream - very little taste at all, but it comes in a seperate bowl so it was easy to just cut it out!

IMG_7749.jpg

After dinner we went straight over to Everest - there is nothing better than riding a coaster on a full stomach - YES our stomachs can handle it :rotfl2:
We spent the evening enjoying the EMH and short lines everywhere and actually had an early night, since AK closed at 9 - yes, even with EMH. We were back at the resort by 9.30.

To be continued .......
Next up Liberty Tree Tavern, Main Street Bakery and dinner at The Wave.

I LOVE your trip report! I wonder if the apple dumpling you had reminded you of apple strudel! (My mom was Russian but lived for many years in Austria, mostly near Vienna.)

Such fun to live vicariously through your pictures!

Okay, here's the next part of my review.

Aug 21 - Liberty Tree Tavern, Main Street Bakery, The Wave

We started our day with the "usual breakfast", cookies and tea, then left for the MK, where we had an 11.30 ADR at Liberty Tree Tavern.
We were there right on time and were seated within 5 minutes. We were paying out of pocket for this meal, so we decided to share a starter and not have dessert THERE.
For our starter we chose the Tavern Fried Cheese - with marinara sauce. Very nice fried cheese and spicy dipping sauce, but nothing special.

IMG_7852.jpg

For our main courses we both chose sandwiches. Tom had the Tri-Corner Sandwich - roast beef and swiss cheese with Liberty Slaw, horseradish cream sauce and arugula served on herbed focaccia with tavern fries. He said it was very good and I think it was, since he ate it all.

IMG_7856.jpg

IMG_7857.jpg

I had the Salmon Club Sandwich - grilled salmon on toasted multi-grain with lemon-basil mayonnaise served with mixed greens salad. I found it a bit on the dry side and just luke warm. I managed to eat half of the sandwich, the salad was very nice and therefor was finished!

IMG_7855.jpg

Since they took our favourite dessert, the chocolate liberation cake, off the menu and there was nothing to really tickle our fancy we decided to skip dessert and were out of the restaurant within one hour.

Lateron while walking towards the hub I remembered photos of the ice-cream cookie sandwich from the Main Street Bakery. We were thirsty and wanted to sit down for a while, so we went to the MSB and yes, the ice-cream cookie sandwich is just ONE snack credit. It actually has two large cookies, you can choose from chocolate chip, white chocolate chip and sugar cookie and it is filled with a giant helping of vanilla ice-cream. It was one of the best uses of a snack credit!
Plus it was VERY good and we were not able to finish it! The cookies were fresh and moist and tasted heavenly together with the ice-cream.

IMG_7858.jpg

Since we didn't have anything to show the size of the cookie we placed the coke bottle next to it.

IMG_7859.jpg

To be continued .........
Next up - dinner at The Wave - definitely one of the BEST meals we had!

WOW! I assumed that cookie was "large" b/c of the size of that plate but when you see it next to a coke bottle...woweeee! That will be a MUST GET on my trip! Ummm good!

Gotta love the icecream sandwiches!!!!!

Looking forward to your review of "The Wave", as we are considering going there next year!

Aug 20 - dinner at Yak and Yeti

Our server was there fast to tell us what we could order on the DDP and that the Brownie Sundae counted as dessert for two to share. Well, that wasn't on our list to begin with, so no disappointment.

This is the second time I've heard about this dessert only being available for two. Does anyone know what's so special about ice cream and chocolate (besides the obvious ;) ) that makes them do this? Also, there's conflicting reports about the Dim Sum Basket only being available for sharing. Can anyone confirm this? Ugh, so many restrictions...

I just found this thread and read the whole thing! I love the reviews and pics so far....and I'm drooling over that cheesecake from Mama Melrose. It is one of my favorite desserts in all of WDW!

I am so glad to have found others!!!!! I am TERRIFIED of frogs, have always been. I'm scrolling past the pics also.....:rotfl:

I mostly lurk here, but I had to pop in and say I'm another with a terrible fear of frogs. And toads.

Dh and I used to live in a place that had a swampy area behind it and we had lots of frogs around. It was horrible. Once our wash tub in the basement overflowed and dh opened the basement windows to dry it out, not thinking about the fact that one didn't have a screen for some reason. I went downstairs a few days later and found a frog staring up at me! I ran upstairs screaming and crying hysterically and jumped on top of the kitchen counter. Dh seriously thought somone had broken in and was trying to murder me or something lol. I made him catch and take it outside and spray tons of Raid, just in case that would kill any more that might have made their way in. I couldn't sleep for days and it was weeks and weeks before I could go to the basement again. Dh had to do laundry duty....

I haven't read many reports about Boatrights. The chocolate cake could be enough to make me think about cheating on my diet. But the bananas foster cake ~ Wow, no doubt just smelling it would send me into shock!

Yak & Yeti looks great. I am even considering adding this to our ADR list. The ribs - oh my! If I had a dollar for each time I helped my Opa fix ribs when I was a kid, well, I could go to Disney every year. I'm not a big drinker, but that Everest rum drink looks very yummy! Might as well have a drink now and again when there will always be a designated driver. :cool1:

And fried cheese at Liberty ~ Heaven on Earth! Nothing more I can say about that!

Wundabare Berichte!

Sorry about the long "break", but work seems to keep me from my favourite pastime! But here is an update!

Aug 21 - dinner at The Wave

To begin with, we had read a few negative reviews of the restaurant and were not sure what to expect, but we were so pleasantly surprised!

After having some rest time at the resort we drove over to the Contemporary, valet parked the car and headed in to the restaurant. There was quite a line to check in and they ran out of beepers. So we were shown to one of the blue "lounges" to be called. We have a VERY German last name, so I was pitying the person who had to call us.
Reading through the drinks menu was a bit hard, since it was a blue menu, which with all the blue backdrop was a bit odd. We waited for quite some time and were shown to our table about 15 minutes past our reservation time. The restaurant itself has a very relaxing atmosphere and made us feel very comfortable. We had a super nice server and she took really good care of us.
We ordered our drinks, diet cokes and had another look at the menu while our server brought out the drinks and some slightly warm, very nice bread and butter with seasalt.

IMG_7970.jpg

IMG_7986.jpg

We then decided to again share a starter, the Lettuce Wraps - sauteed lamb and bay scallops with soy-rice wine vinegar sauce. Even though they were a bit messy to eat, they made up in how tasty they were. We have never had lettuce wraps before, but these were really good.

IMG_7974.jpg

Next came the main courses. Tom had the Linguini - with Florida littleneck clams and rock shrimp with chunky tomato broth which he really loved. I tried a litte and they were really good. Very fresh tasting, pasta nicely cooked, very tasty broth

IMG_7978.jpg

I had decided to try the Grilled Pork Tenderloin - with pineapple rice, wilted greens and black been sauce. The server told me that the pork is done slightly pink and that was a-okay with me. The meat was very juicy and melt in your mouth tender. The rice had just a hint of pineapple, just so you remembered it was there but not interfering with the whole dish. The wilted greens were actually carrots and some greens and the sauce was very tasty. I have to admit I liked this whole dish a lot.

IMG_7979.jpg

I was so looking forward to the dessert trios they offer and when the server brought out the dessert menu I discovered that they actually offer quite nice tea and coffee selections for dessert. The Lavender infused Early Grey caught my eye. I MISS my strong black tea, so this was just up my street. The tea comes in a silk sachet and I have to admit the tea smelled and tasted so good - it could have been my dessert.

IMG_7982.jpg

Tom chose an espresso and he was very pleased with it too. Nice taste, good crema!

IMG_7984.jpg

Since we were on the DDP, and a free one as well, we could not pass up on the dessert. I went for the Creamy Indulgence - cheesecake with raspberry coulis, coconut panna cotta with passion fruit drizzle, chocolate passion fruit mousse with pecan-olive brittle. I wasn't too sure at first, but then LOVED all three mini desserts.

IMG_7987.jpg

The cheesecake was light as a feather and had a very natural tasting coulis, slightly tart - yummy.

IMG_7988.jpg

The coconut panna cotta had a faint coconut taste, again very light and not too sweet

IMG_7989.jpg

Being a chocolate lover I was curious about the chocolate passion fruit mousse with pecan-olive brittle. Can you say gorgeous? Heaven!!! Even the pecan olive brittle I wasn't too sure about was so good!

IMG_7990.jpg

Tom chose the Decadent Flavors - blueberry compote with yogurt gelato, lemon cornbread with vanilla panna cotta, chocolate mousse with salted caramel sauce. He liked his very much as well, but couldn't finish it, so I got to sample 2 more desserts.

IMG_7991.jpg

I got a little taste of the blueberry compote with yogurt gelato, which was nice, but I am not a big fan of either blueberries or yoghurt ice-cream.

IMG_7992.jpg

But I got half of the lemon cornbread with vanilla panna cotta. Not too lemony and the panna cotto just slightly sweet - very nice and complimenting each other.

IMG_7993.jpg

Being a chocaholic the chocolate mousse with salted caramel sauce was my favourite! It was just plain yummy!

IMG_7995.jpg

Since it was raining (again) when we left we decided to drive back to the resort instead of going to the MK and watch the fireworks.
Guess who was waiting for us when we returned to Oak Manor?

Yeah, you guessed it - Froggie was enjoying the wet weather waiting for us to come back "home".

IMG_7997.jpg

To be continued ..............
Next up - ABC commissary, more treats from Goofy's candy co and dinner at Restaurant Marrakesh

We have been dithering over whether to go to The Wave next year, and you have just sorted the dilema thanks!!! Can't wait now!!!

OK froggie creeps me out...but I'm very much looking forward to Restaurant Marrakesh! Can't wait!

The wave looks good, specially that pasta! Yummmmmmmo!

LOVE your Wave review! We are doing lunch there and I can't wait because I keep seeing such wonderful reviews. Your dessert selections look fabulous!

I think Froggie has found a family!

I am very curious about The Wave and I really enjoyed your review. I enjoy different tastes and they look quite healthy ~ desserts have no calories at WDW!

I can't wait to read more.
