A DREAM is a WISH your HEART makes ..... 18 days of Free Disney Dining! (with pix)

I am getting really intrigued by the Wave. We are wanting to try new things next trip. And getting tired of buffets.
Thanks for reporting! :thumbsup2

Dizneeat, I have been a lurker to your wonderful thread, spending several hours reading your posts, and I just wanted to post a big THANK YOU!! from Chicago.

Thank you for taking the time to post these "Disneylicious" pictures of your meals, and we appreciate the time you're taking to post your reviews.

Sometimes people laugh when I take my camera out of my purse to snap pictures of courses in my meals, but why not? Yours is a well-written, visual review that covers many of the restaurants and cafes that we enjoy at WDW (i.e., we love Mama Melrose's too!).

You make me proud to be a DIS member! We can't wait to read the rest.

I LOVE your trip report! I wonder if the apple dumpling you had reminded you of apple strudel! (My mom was Russian but lived for many years in Austria, mostly near Vienna.)

Such fun to live vicariously through your pictures!

Thank you! I love to get feedback :goodvibes!
Since you asked about the apple crisp - it reminded me of a pastry we have here which is made with shortcrust pastry, filled with cinnamon spiced apples and raisins. We call it "Apfelschlangerl".
Traditional Applestrudel is made with filo pastry here in Austria. Both are very nice, but the apple crisp was very similar to the "Schlangerl"!

those tempura shrimps look wonderful!

They WERE yummy!

OK, now I'm hungry. LOL

Great update! :thumbsup2

Thank you!! If you are still hungry - I have another helping of Disney food in a little while!

WOW! I assumed that cookie was "large" b/c of the size of that plate but when you see it next to a coke bottle...woweeee! That will be a MUST GET on my trip! Ummm good!

What a good decision to get the ice-cream cookie sandwich! We tried it twice and could NOT finish it - it is huge and so good.

Gotta love the icecream sandwiches!!!!!

Looking forward to your review of "The Wave", as we are considering going there next year!

Pooh's-Honey-Pot;27781961]We have been dithering over whether to go to The Wave next year, and you have just sorted the dilema thanks!!! Can't wait now!!!

Yeah for the icecream sandwich! AND I am glad I convinced you to give the Wave a try. We are booked on the bounceback Free Dining for 09 and will definitely dine there again!

Loving your report!!

Thank you!!

This is the second time I've heard about this dessert only being available for two. Does anyone know what's so special about ice cream and chocolate (besides the obvious ;) ) that makes them do this? Also, there's conflicting reports about the Dim Sum Basket only being available for sharing. Can anyone confirm this? Ugh, so many restrictions...

I don't think it's about the ice cream and chocolate, LOL, it's about the size of the dessert. This is a HUGE dessert!! I don't think they won't mind if everyone in your party orders one if you pay out of pocket.;)
Don't know about the Dim Sum Basket though - we were sharing it anyway and paying out of pocket, so I have no idea if it is only for sharing.

I just found this thread and read the whole thing! I love the reviews and pics so far....and I'm drooling over that cheesecake from Mama Melrose. It is one of my favorite desserts in all of WDW!

Welcome and thank you for reading! I am all with you on the Mama Melrose cheesecake!

I mostly lurk here, but I had to pop in and say I'm another with a terrible fear of frogs. And toads.

Dh and I used to live in a place that had a swampy area behind it and we had lots of frogs around. It was horrible. Once our wash tub in the basement overflowed and dh opened the basement windows to dry it out, not thinking about the fact that one didn't have a screen for some reason. I went downstairs a few days later and found a frog staring up at me! I ran upstairs screaming and crying hysterically and jumped on top of the kitchen counter. Dh seriously thought somone had broken in and was trying to murder me or something lol. I made him catch and take it outside and spray tons of Raid, just in case that would kill any more that might have made their way in. I couldn't sleep for days and it was weeks and weeks before I could go to the basement again. Dh had to do laundry duty....

Maybe we need to form a support group, there's quite a few of us!

Froggie was a VERY friendly frog and had quite a large and friendly family too! ;)

I haven't read many reports about Boatrights. The chocolate cake could be enough to make me think about cheating on my diet. But the bananas foster cake ~ Wow, no doubt just smelling it would send me into shock!

Yak & Yeti looks great. I am even considering adding this to our ADR list. The ribs - oh my! If I had a dollar for each time I helped my Opa fix ribs when I was a kid, well, I could go to Disney every year. I'm not a big drinker, but that Everest rum drink looks very yummy! Might as well have a drink now and again when there will always be a designated driver. :cool1:

And fried cheese at Liberty ~ Heaven on Earth! Nothing more I can say about that!

Wundabare Berichte!

DANKE!!!
Boatwright's Banana Foster cake is worth going back there next year! :goodvibes and the drink from Yak and Yeti was VERY nice. I don't drink alcoholic drinks all year round, but I LOVE my longdrinks on vacation :cool1:

OK froggie creeps me out...but I'm very much looking forward to Restaurant Marrakesh! Can't wait!

The wave looks good, specially that pasta! Yummmmmmmo!

Marrakesh coming up very soon!

LOVE your Wave review! We are doing lunch there and I can't wait because I keep seeing such wonderful reviews. Your dessert selections look fabulous!

Thank you!
The desserts were really nice. We liked the selections they offered, but if there is something you want from one of their other selections you can mix and match at your heart's delight!

I think Froggie has found a family!

I am very curious about The Wave and I really enjoyed your review. I enjoy different tastes and they look quite healthy ~ desserts have no calories at WDW!

I can't wait to read more.

So true - no calories in desserts and mickey bars! :lmao: WDW is the best of all worlds! ;)

Thanks for the Wave review, everything looked really good. :goodvibes

It was one of the best meals we had - so yummy!!

Great review of the wave.

Thank you!

I am getting really intrigued by the Wave. We are wanting to try new things next trip. And getting tired of buffets.
Thanks for reporting! :thumbsup2

You won't be disappointed of the food or ambience of The Wave. I was really sorry they closed the Concourse Steakhouse, but I am SO happy that new restaurant offers such amazing food.

Loving your reviews!!!!!

I am happy you enjoy them!

I am really over the moon with your kind words!! I have been a lurker here on the Dis myself, but have no gathered up "courage" to post. :goodvibes We had such amazing food during our trip that I just had to share!
Actually I am really used to taking photos of food now, so whenever we go out I snap some photos of our food - has made for some fun conversations ;)
I hope you'll enjoy the rest of my trip report - if you are interested in any reports and photos from Disneyland Paris, feel free to visit my homepage! The link is in my signature.

Okay, now on to the next reviews!

I'm Austrian too!! The pics were great and there was sooo much. Was it really different from the food your used to?

Aug 22 - ABC commissary, more treats from Goofy's Candy Co

We wanted to try TSM that day, but got their a little to late and FP was for early afternoon. Too late for us, so we went and tried to fit in a few other rides before we were to spend another CS credit.

Even though I had read some really bad reviews of the ABC Commissary we gave it a go. I wasn't very adventurous so I chose the Fried Fish - battered fried fish served with fries. The fried fish was crisp and the meak flakey. I loved it that they had malt vinegar for the fish. The fries were just regular fries. I was pleasantly surprised :thumbsup2

IMG_8008.jpg

Tom had the Cheeseburger - with fries. Again, regular fare, nothing special, but not bad either. If you are looking for the cheese - it was stuck to the top of the bun :lmao:

IMG_8010.jpg

Tom had the no sugar added Strawberry Parfait, which was not too sweet and surprisingly good! It was light and he enjoyed it a lot!

IMG_8016.jpg

IMG_8015.jpg

As you might have already noticed I am the chocaholic in the family, so I had to try the Chocolate Mousse. It looked a lot like a (not so nice) dessert you can buy in the stores here in Austria, but boy was I wrong. It tasted like very rich dark chocolate and was indeed VERY nice. I enjoyed it VERY much and there was nothing left of it in the end!

IMG_8011.jpg

IMG_8013.jpg

By early afternoon we left DHS and went to DTD to pick up more treats from Goofy's Candy Co. This time we got some more pretzel rods, these were just SO good!!!

All three were dipped in dark chocolate, then one had dark chocolate chips, one had chopped pecans and the third one crushed M&Ms! We had them drizzled with milk chocolate.

IMG_8046.jpg

The second batch were dipped in dark chocolate as well, then dipped in crushed butterfinger, oreo crumbs and crushed peanutbutter cups. We had them drizzled in white chocolate for a change. ;)

To be continued .........
Next up - dinner at Restaurant Marrakesh

I'm Austrian too!! The pics were great and there was sooo much. Was it really different from the food your used to?

Jacksgirl21, welcome to my food review, fellow Austrian!! And thank you for your kind words about my photographic skills.
You can get similar food here in Austria too, I just think it tastes so much better when you are on vacation ;) !

Aug 22 - dinner at Restaurant Marrakesh

Since we had 18 days of free dining we thought it might be a good idea to try Restaurant Marrakesh. It turned out to not be one of our favourites. We arrived about 15 minutes early, the podium was crowded and no one seemed to care at all. They did not have beepers, but after some asking back and forth I understood we were to take a seat. We did and waited. It seemed they were just waiting for our assigned time to come around to seat us. Off we went and were seated at a rather wobbly table which was squeezed in between two rows of tables for four. While we were waiting for our server I noticed that the table-cloth, well actually table-paper was slightly wet in one spot. I tried to dry it with a napkin, but then discovered that the AC was dripping. We stopped a server and asked for another table and were shown to the next table in the row of tables. Again very wobbly!

IMG_8058.jpg

Our server arrived to take drink orders, and filled the glasses on the table with water - very nasty water. One sip and thanks, but no thanks. It tasted of clorine and some kind of detergent. Yuck!
When our diet cokes arrived I hoped it wasn't the ice and was glad to taste that it indeed was just the water that tasted yuck!
Next our server came with half a loaf of bread and some butter. Bread was nice and fresh and the butter was just that - butter.

IMG_8062.jpg

For his main course Tom chose a fish dish that came with some vegetables in a broth. The taste was very nice, but the presentation was blah! Everything just thrown onto a plate.

IMG_8066.jpg

As you can see by now, this was not a very outstanding experience. But that had to do with other things as well. First of all the wobbly table, than there was the noise. The entertainment had started and we did not mind that, but on top of it the chatting of the diners seemed to echo in the room. It was very noisy. Plus, they had seated a family of four at the table next to us. Mommy, Daddy and two little kids. The smaller one of the two, which was about 18 months was handed a crayon and after "colouring" the printout he started colouring the table cloth/paper. Nothing wrong here. The wrong to me came when they were served pasta for the kids, which was then presented to the 18 month old on the table cloth which he had previously coloured with the crayon!!! The mother would take a spoonful of the pasta and tomato sauce and spoon it ON the table cloth. The little boy ate a few bits, then started hitting the pasta with his bottle, splashing the sauce everywhere and most of the pasta went to the floor. Not the prettiest sight in a restaurant. The parents just looked on and laughed about it!
Well, apart from the ambience there was my dinner. I had ordered the Couscous - the national Moroccan dish - rolled semolina steamed and served with seasonal vegetables and Lamb. Again - it looked like they had just thrown it on the plate. Couscous tasting quite nice, like made with a good broth, cooked vegetables and cooked meat. Not a bad meal, but it just did not appeal to us as much as the ones we had had before. Generous portions though!

IMG_8068.jpg

We did try dessert. I had chosen the Moroccan Symphony - Assorted pastries which were really nice, crisp pastry with sweet and moist filling. Very good.

IMG_8073.jpg

Tom chose the Bastilla - crispy leaves of pastry topped with vanilla cream and sprinkled with toasted almonds. He enjoyed this very much. It was not too overly sweet and the filo pastry had a nice crunch to it!

IMG_8077.jpg

Would we go there again? I don't think so, soso food and very noisy.
Would I try other Marroccan food? Yes definitely, next time we want to check out their counter service.
Would I order their desserts again! YES!!!!!! They were really good!!!

Guess who greeted us coming back home - yeah you got it right! Froggie!!!

To be continued ...........
Next up - Wolfgang Puck's Express (AGAIN), Tutto Italia (WOW!! so good), Margarita Stand in Mexico and a snack from the Riverside Mill

Aug 23 - Wolfgang Puck's Express (AGAIN)

After we got up late we decided to head to DTD for some shopping and an early lunch at WPE.
We were really looking forward to our visits to Wolfgang Puck's and here is what we had.
Tom had the Rotisserie BBQ Beef - slices of house roasted Niman Ranch rotisserie beef, sautéed mushrooms, carmelized onions and Wolfgang's signature BBQ sauce, topped with mozzarella, rolled in warm, all natural garlic focaccia bread. Served with a side of sour cream slaw. I had a bite and this was just SO good! Tender beef and the warm focaccia - heaven! And the sour cream slaw was the best we had during the 4 weeks we stayed this time!

IMG_8083.jpg

IMG_8084.jpg

I love the pizzas at WPE, so I had another one - the Four Cheese Pesto - creamy goat cheese, mozzarella, fontina and Parmesan with Roma tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic-basil pesto sauce and sun dried tomatoes. The tomatoes were really fresh and fragrent and the cheeses worked so well with the pesto. I could have this every day, LOL!

IMG_8081.jpg

There are just a few desserts to choose from, so guess what I had for dessert - yeah you got it Creme Bruleé!

IMG_8085.jpg

Tom went for his favourite too - he had another helping of the frozen vanilla yoghurt with strawberries!

IMG_8087.jpg

We spent some time shopping offsite before dinner.

To be continued .........
Dinner at Tutto Italia, Margarita Stand and Riverside Mill snack

Is it really made with filo?! That's how my Mom made it but I always assumed that that was an Americanized version or something! There is NOTHING better than that crisp, buttery, sugary filo that gets caramelized while it's baking... YUM.

Jacksgirl21, welcome to my food review, fellow Austrian!! And thank you for your kind words about my photographic skills.
You can get similar food here in Austria too, I just think it tastes so much better when you are on vacation ;) !

That is very true. There's nothing better than vaction food.:cutie:

I love reading a food review from an Austrian - as I sit munching on the Männer Zitronenschnitten I just brought back from there. One reason I travel to Germany/Austria every year is the fabulous food (esp. the cheeses, breads and pastries - hello Demels!) so it's interesting to hear how enthused you are about the food at WDW. Generally I find the quality of dishes at WDW uneven - ranging from sublime to mediocre but it sounds like you had mainly great experiences.
You have wonderful pictures - I love the frogs and think they had a wonderful dose of reality to a fantasy world - and I look forward to hearing more.

loving this food TR....and I think your english is outstanding if I may say so...and not only that but your spelling is well done...*high 5*...subbing!!!

Great review! The frog stories are cracking me up! I don't know if it because of the rain or what..we never saw one in our week at POR! We were in the AB section though...

still loving your reviews, but that last frog piccie has made me freakkkkkkyyyyyyyyyyy out !!!!!!!!!!!
