Rose & Crown (to watch illuminations- did this last yr. it was awesome!! My mom loves Illuminations so this is a surprise for her )Dh's

Via Napoli ( know you didn't have a good exp. here but we have been saying for years we were trying it)

Garden Grill (we need a character dinner fix and the food is great!)

Cali Grill ( another surprise for my parents- they've never been here. We'll watch Wishes that night)

Sci-Fi ( My boys' fave! Parents will the atmosphere)

Flying Fish (DH's new fave!!)

Le Chefs ( We all Remy)

The only new restaurant this time is VN. The others are some of our favorites. Most of them are new for my parents so that will be fun! Do we have any the same?

Well if you had've kept walking you could have visited us at the pool at the GF!

I don't think the walls are that bad covering the construction either. However---- things sure have changed since we were there. I think there are a lot more walls up on the GF side that are blocking views of the water and Poly and such.

Great review of the other side of the Poly. I loved being over there when we stayed in Fiji. I thought it was a great location and I loved my view. And that beach that is closest to the GF side--- outside of Fiji--- it is NEVER crowded. I'd stay there again for sure.

Can't wait for more...

It looks like the monorail track goes right over the construction walls. Can you see anything from the monorail?

It does, but I couldn't see anything going on when we were on the monorail. But then I think they were just getting started at that point.

My DH isn't much for walks at home, but he's always up for it at the WDW resorts!

Yeah, I didn't think it was near as bad as people were making it out to be. Maybe it is now, but it wasn't really then.

I think any side of the Poly is wonderful!!

I agree. The construction stuff doesn't really bother me. I think WDW does an awesome job of disguising that sort of stuff.

I may have already missed this by skipping some of the chit chat, but what discount did you use for your May trip? Was that the 'fake' trip that you booked?

Okay, I am back and aaalll caught up! I haven't posted here since I left for vaca in Nov!!! Super busy and more computer trouble..then it unsubscribed me after it was in the shop again!!!! ANY way...Jodi,..so sorry to hear about Marks Gma and the awful bday week you had...but
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!! all the way from Texas!!! Sorry I wasn't here and missed it,but at least we can drag it out a week,right?
On our Nov trip we walked to the GF and didn't mind the walls at all,..DH had to walk over there to work out, no gym at the Poly. It was a great trip, we were in the Tokelau building, 3rd floor, about 3 rooms down from the end of the building on the MK end...we could watch fireworks from there...we did get great Towel Animals there too!! The best ones are here I think.
My ds12 is a Lego freak too--maybe I should take him there in May for his Bday?! Heads up on travel there from Disney..my bf and her family just went in Dec...they rented the car---came back at dark time and almost NEVER found there way back!! She said it was awful!! If I go, I am just footing the bill for the Taxi.. I am NOT driving around and getting all frustrated!! We did take a taxi to Celebration one year. It is a great place to see...so, you may wanna consider just forking over the money and not having any hassle with driving.
I am so excited for you to get to go back in May!!! I had already looked at going the same week you are!! but dd's dance recital got moved to the 8th of May, and the 2 weekends before are all dance practices!! her bday is 4/4 and ds12 is5/10, so that week or the week before is in the middle for both of them...would sure love to surprise them with it!!! Will see...that promo sure looks good!!!!!

Having Dole Whips right there was so awesome.

The construction between the Poly & the GF really didn't bother me. Now that mess at MK is an eyesore. Hopefully it will all be worth it in the end!

There's a Spring Room Only discount out for mid April thru mid June. That is what I used. I think it is 30% off the BC! Yes, I guess this is that fake May trip that I had planned months ago in my head!!

So glad you enjoyed the Poly. I think next time I would request Tokelau since we probably wouldn't do CL again. So how did you like the room this time? Sounds like you had an awesome view! And the million dollar question -- which do you like better - Poly or BC???

I don't think we could afford a taxi ride for 40 miles each way. We were charged $20 to go from CBR to the Poly. We can rent a car for the entire day for $40!! Hopefully we won't get lost. It looks like a pretty easy drive. Guess we should take our GPS or rent one though just in-case!

I think I want to drive thru Celebration on the way back too! Hopefully it won't be dark.

Too bad you couldn't work it out to go that week. That would be perfect - right in-between their birthdays! Maybe something will work out.

I have rented a car on every trip I have taken to FL and it has been no problem. First time there, I drove from Orlando to Ft. Myers, about 160 miles, it was easy. Drove from Ft. Lauderdale, through the Everglades to Ft. Myers too. Sure, it is possible you can get a little lost because you are in a unfamiliar area, but there are a lot of signs and if you have a second set of eyes to help you even better. Plus renting a car gives you a lot of extra freedom to explore around, check out other place to visit and eat. I highly recommend it! It is so easy to get a rental MCO!

Do you (or anyone else) know of somewhere good to eat offsite, not too far from WDW? I am thinking we should take advantage of the car and have dinner offsite that evening on the way back. Could be in Celebration too....Nothing too fancy though, we will have been at LL all day and not in nicer clothes.

The DIS Unplugged podcast seems pretty happy with Celebration Town Tavern. They also talk about a few others. I will try to remember them. The name of one is on the tip of my tongue...

Oh - Tejas de Brazil. They rave about that one. Good price for the food if I recall.

My boys always beg us to eat at Longhorn Steakhouse. We don't have one out here in Cali and they love the appetizers and sandwiches there and they never leave anything behind. My wife and I like the steaks - not really expensive, but not cheap either. It is moderate place, go ahead and you can
wear your shorts there too.

I think this one is the closest to WDW - 5351 W Irlo Bronson Memorial Hwy, (192), Kissimmee, FL 34746. Been there three or four times. It is right next door to Orange World, the big orange building.

well..the Poly is as close to Hawaii as I will ever get I am sure!! LOL!! If I am gonna be on a plane for that long, I am goin' to Europe!!!!It's very relaxing, convenient to both Epcot and MK., and the rooms are very big..the kids would pick Poly hands down every time. Mikes fave is def the BC..he HATES the decor in the Poly rooms,..I am not fond of all that dark stuff either, but it is depicting a true Hawaiin feel!! I love it for what it is, but my fave would be the BC or the Cont...BC is my fave for convenience to the other parks, and Cont is my fave for conv. to MK...I swear, I would stay anywhere if I could just be there!
I think you are gonna really love the BC--but for totally diff reasons than why you love the Poly...I think the kids like the SAB area better too...it doesn't get as crowded.
I forgot to tell you yesterday that Mike said to tell your DH hello for him!

Very much enjoyed looking at the pictures in your latest update, I could look at the Poly beach forever but then growing up on the coast the beach has always been a love of mine.

The pic of our youngest DS peeping under the wall was precious. We have only driven to US and Sea World, NASA we used a Mears? trip van as we had no car and it was our first trip so we did not want to rent one either but We have always found the signing in the Orlando area sufficient or worst time was one year we could not find our way out of the US parking lot

As far as a taxi , I read on one of the threads about a woman who lost her cc and had to go into Orlando to withdraw $ to pay her resort bill and it cost her $120 RT I think I would rent a car before taking a taxi to LL too

We all really loved the Poly. In-fact when I asked the kids where they wanted to stay this time they both answered the Poly. And as much as I would like to stay there again, the price is just too high. So we may not get back there again unless they offer a better discount and/or we are doing a shorter trip or a split stay with a cheaper resort too.

So off to the BC we go!! I hope we will love it. I can't imagine we wouldn't love it. We have loved most of the WDW resorts we have stayed at! I'm just afraid nothing will compare to the Poly. But like you said -- I think we will love it for different reasons than we loved the Poly. I am always up for a "different feel" to each vacation, keeps things new and exciting! We already know we loved the feel of the area when we stayed at the BWI, so I'm sure we will be fine. I'm just concerned we won't get our requests of the extra couch/daybed and a full balcony.

I will tell DH when he gets home! He still asks about you guys all the time.

DS was trying to see just what the heck was going on behind all those walls, but he couldn't see a thing!!

Yeah, taxi fare has really gone up I think. A few years back we took a taxi from POR to OKW and it only cost $4.50. When we took the taxi from CBR to the Poly and it was $20+ I about croaked!! I realize it is a little further of a trip, but still. I couldn't imagine what it would be to somewhere outside of WDW!
