A Dole Whip in my hand & my toes in the sand: CBR/Poly Split Stay – This Is The Life!

I love pot stickers. I haven't had them since I went gluten free. :headache: Oh well. I always thought it was funny when they would ask (in certain restaurants) if I wanted them fried or steamed.... um fried of course! Why would I go out and pay for a nice appetizer and pass on all that yummy caramelization that I'm never gonna do for myself at home? :rotfl:

but for those who were asking:
Jiǎozi 餃子 or 饺子 (Chinese transliteration), gyōza (Japanese transliteration), Mo:Mo: or Momocha म:म: or ममचा (Nepali transliteration), or pot sticker is a Chinese dumpling widely spread to Japan, Eastern and Western Asia.

Jiaozi typically consist of a ground meat and/or vegetable filling wrapped into a thinly rolled piece of dough, which is then sealed by pressing the edges together or by crimping. Jiaozi should not be confused with wonton: jiaozi have a thicker, chewier skin and a flatter, more oblate, double-saucer like shape (similar in shape to ravioli), and are usually eaten with a soy-vinegar dipping sauce (and/or hot chili sauce); while wontons have thinner skin, are sphere-shaped, and are usually served in broth. The dough for the jiaozi and wonton wrapper also consist of different ingredients.

Perfect Potstickers
Total Time:
1 hr 10 min
Prep

Cook
20 min

Yield:
35 to 40 potstickers

Level:
Intermediate

Ingredients

* 1/2 pound ground pork
* 1/4 cup finely chopped scallions
* 2 tablespoons finely chopped red bell pepper
* 1 egg, lightly beaten
* 2 teaspoons ketchup
* 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
* 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
* 1 teaspoon light brown sugar
* 1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
* 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
* 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
* 35 to 40 small wonton wrappers
* Water, for sealing wontons
* 3 to 4 tablespoons vegetable oil, for frying
* 1 1/3 cups chicken stock, divided

Directions

Preheat oven to 200 degrees F.

Combine the first 11 ingredients in a medium-size mixing bowl (pork through cayenne). Set aside.

To form the dumplings, remove 1 wonton wrapper from the package, covering the others with a damp cloth. Brush 2 of the edges of the wrapper lightly with water. Place 1/2 rounded teaspoon of the pork mixture in the center of the wrapper. Fold over, seal edges, and shape as desired. Set on a sheet pan and cover with a damp cloth. Repeat procedure until all of the filling is gone.

Heat a 12-inch saute pan over medium heat. Brush with vegetable oil once hot. Add 8 to 10 potstickers at a time to the pan and cook for 2 minutes, without touching. Once the 2 minutes are up, gently add 1/3 cup chicken stock to the pan, turn the heat down to low, cover, and cook for another 2 minutes. Remove wontons to a heatproof platter and place in the warm oven. Clean the pan in between batches by pouring in water and allowing the pan to deglaze. Repeat until all the wontons are cooked. Serve immediately.:cloud9:

Don't you wish that there was a mechanism, like the one in UP, that could tell you what your dog is thinking? :laughing: Like was he looking at you when you got home thinking, "look what I made for you mom!" or was he tearing up the pee pad cursing your name because you left it in his pen? I always wonder if my big dogs look at my pug and say "Hey Lilo. If I get this bag of bread off the counter, then you can help me eat it!" Of course Lilo couldn't refuse and offer like that! :rotfl:

Oh Shelly, that is too funny! :laughing: Maybe Jack is a week late for trick-or-treat! And you got tricked after he found out that you posted pics of him in his cowboy costume on the Disboards! ;)

Thanks for the great lesson! :thumbsup2 I think I might like potstickers!

Is you screen name a hint to your cooking skills?

Maybe I should change my screen name to fromaboxmom! ;)

Well wasn't that a fun little mess you came home to. Our little guy goes in an empty crat so we don't have to worry about that, although he hasn't been left a whole day yet. I own my own store so if I know we're going to be all day I just bring him with me, and my customers love him.

Yes it was quite the mess. :upsidedow I don't like to leave him in the crate all day, so I try to give him a little freedom with the doggy playpen and look what I get in return!! :headache::laughing:

You're so lucky you can take your puppy with you!

Yeah, I certainly don't get him!! :faint: Sometimes he is so smart that I wonder how a puppy could be that smart and then other times not so much. :scared1: And after that mess yesterday he went into the bathroom last night and shredded a roll of toilet paper. :sad2:

Well I've got to get going to work in a little bit, but I thought I'd get an update posted before I leave! Only doing a part time shift today -- 8:30-2:30, so I'll check back in later. Have a great day everyone! :goodvibes

After we were done at the Poly we got back on the monorail. Next stop: The Grand Floridian!

We walked outside and to the pool area. We wanted to check out that huge construction wall that was between the Poly & GF that everyone was flipping out about the week before we left. I was taking pics and sending then to Jodi (JoBird) since she was arriving at the GF on Thursday night. We decided that the wall sure wasn't pretty, but it wasn't near as bad as everyone was making it out to be. And the path between the Poly and the GF was still open!

DH and I had a seat at one of the tables next to the sand, while the kids ran off and played. It was such a nice evening. It had started to cool off nicely and the resort was very quiet. We stayed much longer than anticipated. :cloud9:

Pretty soon the kids had caught themselves a poor unsuspecting lizard. :scared1: After 7 trips of trying they had finally caught one!! They played with him for a little bit and then released him where they found him.

After our very nice and relaxing evening at the GF we took the monorail to MK and then the bus back to CBR. When we got back to CBR the kids thought they should be able to finish their swim earlier that the thunderstorm ruined. So off to the Jamaica pool we went! :yay:

That looks like such an awesome night!:goodvibes I love your GF pictures....they are making me so excited!
I love relaxing evenings at WDW...well, actually I love all evenings at WDW!:lovestruc

:cloud9::love::cloud9::love::cloud9:

Thank you sooooooo much for brightening my day with this post!!!! I knew I could count on you to make the rain outside cease to exist for a few minutes.:banana:

Your night was so wonderful. Thank you so much for sending those pictures to me that night. It made me so happy! It is just so relaxing at the GF. :cloud9:
Did you walk to the courtyard pool? how about down to the boat launch??? I hope you didn't miss those parts of it.

How many lizards did the boys end up seeing this trip? My kids counted after you guys left and I don't know how many they found but there were hundreds of them on that pathway from the GF to the Poly one day. Drew said WOW-- wish "the guys" were here with us to see all of these!:rotfl:

So---- since you enjoyed visiting the GF so much-- do you have plans to ever stay there???popcorn::popcorn:: If we can tear you away from the Poly, that is!:upsidedow

Great Update, Shelly!!!

Teri---- If that's the criteria for names, then mine should be changed to "Make it yourself mama".:rotfl2:
PS---- great game btw... but very very scary! I wondered how you were doing down there watching it.;)

LaLa------ I'm so jealous!!! I hope you have a wonderful trip to SL. Did you request a certain view??? :3dglasses It's going to be great and I expect pictures to feed my addiction.:goodvibes

What a relaxing evening! That just sounds so perfect. :cloud9: Ahhh...

The Grand Floridian is just gorgeous. And wow, I must not be very observant because the Poly is definitely in plain sight... haha... whoops.

How awesome that you could see IllumiNations from your resort! It's funny to think how close together some of these places are! I'm glad your boys got to catch up on their swim time. :)

Great update Shelly! I also had to go back and read about 'Ohana since I missed that one. (I've been getting sick often and found out it's my gallbladder. I will have to have it removed. Boo.) But seeing your food pictures really made me hungry. Yum, yum!!! Grand Floridian is so pretty! That sand is gorgeous. It's a little out of my price range though, bummer. ;) A swim is a great way to end your evening.

WOW - I'm really hungry for potstickers now!! I am more of a "takeoutmom" when it comes to Asian food, but someday I may try this recipe!

On the naughty dog stories - my dog uses the potty pads in the garage. It started when we got him and it was so cold he wouldn't go outside. He still does use them, and always seems to have to go out at night. One time I was sick of getting up, and put one near the door to the garage. He proceeded to shred it and leave a present nearby. :mad: Now I just get up.
Funny thing is, he can stay home, loose in the house all day (at least 6 hours) and not have any problems. But he can't stay in at night for 6 or 8 hours. I think he drinks and eats more when we're home cuz he knows we will be there to let him out. Now it's just habit.

Forgot to mention - what a lovely relaxing evening!!! I'd love to wander through the Poly and GF and just relax, hang out...Maybe next trip.

Great update, Shelly! The GF looks beautiful. That lobby is awesome! And the grounds were so pretty and tranquil looking. It looks like y'all almost had the place to yourself! Not to mention how clean it looks. :laughing: The beach area was so perfectly white. It was just very, very pretty.

The boys sure look like they were enjoying it. But lizards! :scared1: I am deathly afraid of lizards, which I know is ridiculous, but I can't help it. Do y'all have them up in PA? We have lots down here, and I have found one in my house a time or two. One time I put a plastic bowl over it with something heavy on top until my DH got home, and the other time I called his brother to come get it!

What a great evening back at CBR. How nice to enjoy Illuminations from the beach while the boys swim. :goodvibes

Another typical fun and relaxed day at Disney! ;)

Teri---- If that's the criteria for names, then mine should be changed to "Make it yourself mama".:rotfl2:
PS---- great game btw... but very very scary! I wondered how you were doing down there watching it.;)

"Make it yourself mama" :rotfl: You crazy girl!

Thanks! Yes, that game was super scary. :scared1: So thrilled we won, but with a few misgivings. Poor Jarret Lee, who had come so far and got us to #1 after his bad seasons, only to throw 2 INT's. :sad2: And Miles needs to rein in the Honey Badger before he costs us a game. Not to mention him making us look like the U. :headache:

My DH and I stayed at the GF for our anniversary 3 yrs. ago those pics brought back nice memories.
My DS is always trying to catch those poor lizards too LOL! He hasn't yet.
I never knew how close CBR was to Epcot.

Loved the latest update, beautiful pics of GF. You guys always look so relaxed :goodvibes

Those lizards sure are an attraction in themselves I remember my DS trying to catch them too.

Jack sure is doing everything he can for attention, I wonder what will be next after the toliet tissue :rotfl:

Hello!

Crazy afternoon and I am just now getting caught up on here! :faint: But at least I didn't come home to any surprises. Little Jack Jack behaved himself today!! ::yes::

That looks like such an awesome night!:goodvibes I love your GF pictures....they are making me so excited!

Great Update, Shelly!!!

I had a feeling you might like this update....:rolleyes1

No, we didn't see the courtyard pool or the boat launch. Maybe next time! Once we planted our behinds on the beach we didn't get much further. :rotfl:

The kids said 105 lizards. :faint: IDK, I lost count!! We definitely saw way more at CBR than we did at the Poly. I don't think we saw too many on the GF/Poly path, but it was the middle of a very hot day when we walked that path, maybe the lizards were hiding!!

I never really considered staying at the GF, but after our evening there we would definitely think about it now. ::yes::

What a relaxing evening! That just sounds so perfect. :cloud9: Ahhh...

The Grand Floridian is just gorgeous. And wow, I must not be very observant because the Poly is definitely in plain sight... haha... whoops.

Yep, the Poly & GF have great views of each other from the beaches. :cloud9:

We love watching IllumiNations from CBR!

I'm sorry you are going to have to have surgery. Will it be soon? I hope you get all healed up fast. :thumbsup2

Ohana is great! So is the GF! But yes, quite expensive. :eek:

We don't have many lizards up here. Certainly not like down there. There were so many at CBR that you had to watch where you were walking. :scared1:

We always like to make Mondays our relaxing day. I find the parks to be busiest on that day so we typically don't go to one that day!

My DH and I stayed at the GF for our anniversary 3 yrs. ago those pics brought back nice memories.

I never knew how close CBR was to Epcot.

The GF would be perfect for an anniversary vacation. :lovestruc

CBR is VERY close to Epcot and DHS!

Where was this picture taken? I don't think I've ever seen this area before?

That is off the second floor lobby balcony at the GF! Great views! :goodvibes

Oh my, I couldn't believe they actually caught a lizard. :faint: They have been trying to forever!! I always told them they would never do it, but they did! :upsidedow

That's not the first roll of toilet paper Jack has destroyed. :rolleyes:
