A Dole Whip in my hand & my toes in the sand: CBR/Poly Split Stay – This Is The Life!

Wow, it did look pretty crowded at DHS that day! With that many people in a park on a hot day like that, it's a sure thing that the air will be a little  In addition to free deordorant samples, they should give out free clothespins for the rest of us who have to breathe the air!

I'm shocked there was an attraction at DHS you hadn't seen before! The Writer's Stop looks really neat. And I love the cute look on your DS10's face where you're sitting together with the book.

You got some really good pics inside the Great Movie ride. So clear and colorful! :thumbsup2

It was moderately crowded. More-so that I expected it to be, but not too terrible.

Yes, deodorant and clothespins! :lmao:

You know, in all the times we have gone to Sci-Fi I had never noticed the Writer's Stop next door. This time I knew about it ahead of time (I think from Jodi) and I was looking for it!

Very nice update. You touched upon things on my list. Also great pics of the new star tours and the Writers Stop. I am surprised you guys were not "glistening" more going out during the hottest time of the day in Florida in August no less...........brave folk ye is :rotfl:

Thanks! :)

Yes, we were brave. Or stupid. However you want to look at it. :rotfl:

Shelly, our trip in June was unbearably hot all but two of our 14 days. It got so old and I remember one night in line for POTC thinking I was about to be sick from the smell factor of hundreds of hot stinky people so close by! We are actually going over Spring break for our 2012 trip to get a break from the summer heat. Its hard not to think about our offseason trips when my kids were younger and had year round schooling (and a mom who never felt bad about taking them out of school when they were in elementary lol).

Love the picture of you and your son at Writers Stop, priceless!:)

Looks a great day for glistening at DHS! :goodvibes

When DH and I were there for our honeymoon in the summer of 2001 our biggest complaint was not the heat but rather the scent of sweaty gym socks and BO that wafted through the breeze. We teased that Disney should place complimentary samples of deodorant in the restrooms for people during the hotter months of the year.

Heck yeah girl!! slap a Mickey Mouse wrapper on some deo and EVERYBODY would be trying it!!! LOL!!!

Great update! Too bad about TSM- those FP are always gone by like 11am. My DSs LOVE the new Star Tours ride too. They went on a few times and different everytime!!
I have a pic om my DS with the glasses on too!
I'm getting so excited about my upcoming trip. I made my first ADR today! yay :)
It was really hot that day- we were suppose to be flying home that day but thanks to hurricane Irene we got to stay with Mickey 2 more days!!!

My granson who will be 11 next month can't wait to go on the new Star Wars ride in Jan. Taht and the Lego store are all he talks about!

Luckily that was the worst day for the heat for us. And it might have only been because we headed to the park during the hottest part of the day. It really took the energy right out of us. I think that was the last day we went to the parks in the middle of the day! :rotfl:

Oh yes, I remember the days when it was no big deal to take the kids out of school. Now the make-up work is so bad that it's not hardly worth it. :sad2:

I know, those TSM fastpasses go so early! :headache:

I forgot you got to stay an extra few days!

When's your next trip?

My granson who will be 11 next month can't wait to go on the new Star Wars ride in Jan. Taht and the Lego store are all he talks about!

They have both recently been redone, so he will have a blast!! :cool1:

After our journey through the movies it was getting close to our ADR time. So we headed over to Sci-Fi Dine In!

The waiting area was pretty crowded. We got checked in and were given a buzzer. It went off in about 15 minutes and we were seated. We were taken to the right side, which was totally different to us. The last 3 times we ate there we were taken to the left and put in the same exact car! The last 2 times we even had the same waiter, who was awesome! This time we were seated to the right of the center and had a waitress. She was okay, but not terrific.

We were seated and ordered. We all got milkshakes of course! They are the best at Sci-Fi!! DS10 and I got chocolate, DH got vanilla, and DS12 got oreo. They were all great!

The kids aren't too fond of the food at Sci-Fi. They usually split a hot dog meal, but this time they didn't want anything, other than the milkshakes. I knew from the way they were acting that they weren't going to eat even if I ordered them something. So we just got them milkshakes and they watched the movie clips while we ate.

DH and I both ordered the steak salad. I had gotten this on the last 2 trips and it was fabulous. This time it was very good, but not spectacular. DH thought his was okay.

We still love Sci-Fi, but the whole experience just wasn't as great as we are used to. Usually the food is excellent, along with the service. This time they were just okay to good. In the past our CM took our camera without us asking and took several pics for us. This time I had to ask our CM to take pictures for us and she only took one.

We just weren't overwhelmed by our experience this time. I'm sure we will go back again, but we may take a break next year.

When she came back to take our dessert orders we told her we were full and asked if we could just charge the kids milkshakes as our desserts since they are included as a drink and a dessert on the DDP. And she let us!

Total Bill: $55.11
Rating: 7.5 out of 10

Up Next: More DHS and back to CBR

So sorry your experience this trip at Sci-fi was not as good as in the previous years. I hate when that happens. That happened to me the 2nd time I went to Coral Reef, the first time was great and I am not sure if I will go there again or not sometime. At least it worked out good by her letting you use the boys shakes as your dessert for the DDP. I was telling DH about the Writer's Stop today but never did get around to showing him the pics, he seemed interested in stopping in there. We have an early dinner F! pkg on our DHS day so I think it might be a good place to stop off for a coffee and a break mid-day. Loved your pics of the place.

I know, those TSM fastpasses go so early! :headache:

I forgot you got to stay an extra few days!

When's your next trip?

We are going for April vacation- 4/14-22

Too bad about Sci-Fi. We always sit around the same area too. Isn't that funny. DH and I always get the shrimp & pasta there. It is so good!!!

That stinks that Sci-Fi wasn't as good as it usually is for you. But, those milkshakes look delicious!
We like Sci-Fi, it is always a good break from the heat...however we have had hit or miss experiences.
I loved the family picture in the car!

The Great Movie Ride smelled like sweaty people.... YUCK! I really don't know how you dealt so well with the heat. You are tougher than I am for sure!

So what was different about Star Tours? I haven't really heard a thing about it. I get really motion sick on that ride, so I doubt I'll be getting on it, but DH and DD might. I saw your boys had on 3D glasses. Did they change the actual film any, or the ride vehicles?

That's too bad about Sci-Fi. I know you all were looking forward to going back there. I hate it when that happens. Very cool that you didn't have to pay for the milkshakes though! :thumbsup2

That was pretty much our experience with Scifi this trip. We have eaten there every trip, but will be skipping it next time. We tried 50s Primetime this trip and found it fun, but not a place we need to return to every trip. That's too bad about the picture too, they are usually so good about it.

On a sidenote, when I'm reading your trip report and my ds9 walks by he always thinks your ds10 is him. He says "I don't remember that shirt" or something like that.:rotfl2: Cracks me up everytime!

We have sci-fi on our list this trip after years of not going. We went twice years ago but weren't thrilled with the food. I know my DS7 (who either hasn't been or was too little to remember) will love the experience, so we figured we'd try it again for him.
We are also excited to check out the changes on Star Tours.

That's too bad that Sci-Fi wasn't as good this trip. The sequel never seems to be as good as the original. ;) And who you get as a CM/waiter can really make the difference in any Disney attraction. Whether it's a ride like the Jungle Cruise or a restaurant, if you get someone with lots of energy and personality, the whole experience is so much better. It might even make you forget that the food was blah! The milkshakes looked delicious though! I love those old-timey shakes like we used to get at the drive-in. I sound like I'm from Happy Days!

Aww, that stinks for you guys- I know you usually love it there. :(

I think I discovered the problem though- where the heck were your fries for the salad? ;)

Glad the milkshakes were wonderful for you at least.

The pic of you that the CM took looked really cute; it's a shame she wasn't willing to do more of them. I tell ya, a good CM can make all the difference in your experience.

Can't wait to read more! popcorn::

It happened to us at LC about 2-3 trips ago, and I think we are finally ready to give it another try next time. At least this Sci-Fi experience wasn't awful by any means, it just wasn't great like we are used to. Even so, I think we will skip it next year.

You and your DH should definitely stop into the Writer's Stop! :thumbsup2

I'm so jealous -- you're going during my birthday!!!! :goodvibes

DH has had the shrimp & pasta at Sci-Fi before and he really liked it.

I loved the family picture in the car!

Yep - at least the milkshakes were still yummy!! ::yes::

The kids want to know if we can just stop by there and order milkshakes to go next time! :rotfl:

Actually that was the only day that the heat really got to us. Thankfully! It was bad that day!!

Yep, Star Tours is 3D now. And each ride is different - the film. The ride vehicle is still the same.

Yes at least our waitress put the kids shakes on as our desserts! :thumbsup2

I'm sorry your Sci-Fi experience wasn't great either. We've never been too interested in trying Primetime. :confused3

That is too funny about your DS!!! :rotfl:

Your boys will love the new Star Tours! :thumbsup2

So true - nothing is ever as good as the original!! And yes, a CM can make or break any experience.

Happy Days :rotfl2:

Maybe that was it -- I forgot to order a side of fries for my salad!!! :scared1: Well that and I asked for shredded cheddar and she brought me shredded mozzarella. After asking 2 times. She was just kind of "blah".

Bummer on Sci-Fi, Shelly! We really liked it the one time we ate there. I had the burger, which was really good. You are right, their milkshakes are yummy! :goodvibes Hopefully it was just an "off" day and next time will be better.

I hope it was just an off day. It really wasn't terrible, we just weren't getting that 'this is really awesome' feeling we usually get there. :confused3 We will definitely go back some day - can't pass up those milkshakes! :goodvibes
