A Disney Engagementmoon!- 7 days of Deluxe Dining!! *Update 9/8 Captain's Grille

After an early morning flight out of Albany, NY and not eating much breakfast, we were starving when we got to the hotel! We were able to get right into our room at the Yacht Club and found out that we were upgraded from a Garden View room to a Water view room.

Our lovely king sized bed!!

And now onto the food!!

Our first ADR was a 2:00pm lunch at Rainforest Cafe. We flew out with one of my coworkers and her family (they stayed at Beach Club) and they were equally hungry from our morning (plus she and her husband have 5 year old twins who were starving!!). They arrived at Rainforest first and were seated almost immediately. We ending up being seated 25 minutes before our reservation time! We were thrilled about this!

Mike and I ordered water since Rainforest does not accept dining plan and we were paying OOP.

It looks like water...

They did give us the lemons on the side for the water, which is cool because I don't care for them and Mike does.

AND THEN I COMPLETELY FORGOT TO TAKE FOOD PICS! I can't believe I screwed up our first reservation!

Oh well.

We both got the "Volcanic Cobb Salad" (it looks like a cobb salad) with the dressing on the side. Mike doesn't like tomatoes, so he got his without.

Volcanic Cobb Salad - Grilled chicken breast, Romaine and iceberg lettuce, crumbled blue cheese, black olives, tomatoes, chopped egg, and bacon. Tossed with Paradise Balsamic Vinaigrette Dressing $16.99

The salad tasted as expected. On a five-star scale, Mike and I would give it a 3 out of 5. It wasn't bad at all, and all the ingredients were fresh, but it wasn't anything special. It did keep us full enough to hold us over until dinner. In fact, we were so stuffed full of salad, we pushed our next reservation to 8:40pm (from 7:35).

We paid OOP for this meal. The bill came to $42.31 (for two salads and water). Gratuity was included on this since we were a party of 6. It was 18%. We gave $43.00.

Overall view: Rainforest Cafe is a fun restaurant to go to, but since it isn't on the dining plan and they are all over the country, it is not a must do. The food is good here, we just didn't order anything super exciting. Would we go back? Maybe. There certainly isn't anything wrong with it.

OOP Cost: $43.00

Congratulations on your engagement and I'm looking forward to your reviews. I'm sure Mike would have been pretty nervous travelling with a ring, my DH did 9 years ago and when he got separated from the bag when it went through the machine the nerves kicked in. Granted I was ahead of him it wouldn't have disappeared but I'm sure he had a few thoughts of the ring going missing :lmao:

Congrates on the room upgrade! Awesome view!

Congrats on the Engagement! I can't wait to read about all your meals!

We're staying YC in a week, and I'm hoping we get a King Bed as well, looks super comfy!:thumbsup2

great start - and congrats (weight loss and engagement) we are staying yc next month. Hope you liked it. Looking forward to more reviews.

So we ended up making our Captain's Grille reservation about an hour later due to still being full from our lunch at Rainforest Cafe. We took a long nap in the room while it thunderstormed (we were so tired we barely heard it) and took our time getting ready for dinner.

We arrived at 8:25pm for our 8:40pm reservation and were told it would be about 30 minutes before we could sit. No problem. No sooner did we sit on the couch in the lobby did our pager vibrate! The table was ready already! Our server was William, a young guy from Staten Island. He was attentive without being overbearing, and pleasant without being fake. We were very comfortable with him.

First we ordered appetizers.

I had this, Pot-Braised Mussels and Clams

We both REALLY liked our respective appetizers (and eachother's too!) The mussels had sausage (slightly spicy, but perfect and very tasty). The sauce/broth was really good as well. Mussels/Clams tasted normal, as well as the potatoes in the dish. WARNING: The piece of bread on this was DEADLY GOOD!! I gave it to the waiter when he took my appetizer because I had almost forgotten about it, and last second broke off a piece to taste it. It was really really good. The crab cakes were very flavorful and the house-made tartar sauce that it is served with is very creamy and nice.

For dinner, we both went for specials. I got the pasta dish.

Either I wasn't listening or William didn't mention that the pasta was gnocchi. I'm not a fan and never have been. For some reason it just doesn't do it for me. The dish had a cream sauce, peas and prosciutto and 9 medium size pieces of shrimp. It would have been PERFECT it it was served with anything but gnocchi. It wasn't bad at all, just didn't do it for me. I all the shrimp though, and left about half the pasta.

Mike got the salmon, which was the market fish.

He really liked this. I tasted it a couple times. Personally, the salmon was a little salty for me, but otherwise good. It was served over an asparagus/risotto mixture, which was really good.

And off to dessert:

I got the gelato, vanilla.

Mike got the angel food cake

William also brought us this to celebrate our engagement.

Yum! Very good. We finished that little chocolate thing (I have no idea what it was, but it was very rich. The angel food cake and gelato were also very good, but ordinary.

Overall, we would give this meal 4 out of 5 stars. The food and service were slightly better than average. The general assessment is, if you are staying at Yacht/Beach Club, its worth it to go to Captain's Grille. If it involves a lot of extra transportation hassle, skip it.

I don't remember the exact cost, but I want to say it was slightly over $120.00. We tipped $15.00, so that gets added to our OOP cost. It is 1 meal credit per person, so subtract 1 for each of us.

OOP Cost: $58.00
Meal Credits used: 2/42 (42 remaining)
Snack Credits used: 0/28 (28 remaining
