Our last dinner in the World

, and we decided on La Hacienda. Our server was Estephania, and she was adorable and sweet and helpul in every way. We had a table several rows up from the windows but elevated enough that we had quite a lovely view of the lagoon and most of IllumiNations (we only couldn't see the very highest of the fireworks.
For drinks, Aladdin and I knew we were going with the specialties of the house, margaritas from La Cava. The question was, WHICH margaritas? I had a really hard time deciding between the tried and true or going with something new, and after much discussion with Aladdin, who was quite committed to helping me out with my dilemma, I went with the tried and true: the Avocado Margarita:
What can I say about this? It is simply delicious! Smooth and creamy and not-too-sweet with a vague taste/texture of banana? I am unable to detect any essence of avocado in this, but whatever, I just love it...again!
Aladdin went with the Margarita Flight (so he could let me try another 5):
Now, don't be thinking "aw how sweet and selfless of Aladdin" (which actually, he TOTALLY IS, except he hasn't taken me to Monk's yet, LOL). He had some personal interest in this as well

! These were all delicious, though I can't really remember at this point what all the flavors were. I think there was a cactus and a pomegranate, but sorry. Again, I promise to take notes next time!
We ordered a Queso Fundido for an appetizer to share:
I have seen some bad reviews on this and I guess sometimes it is served cold and congealed? Well, this serving was absolutely perfect, with just the right degree of meltedness and also the right amount of spice from the chorizo garnish. This was served with warm flour tortillas, enough for each of us to have at least 1? Maybe even 2?
The chips were delicious, fresh and crisp with just the right amount of salt, and the free salsas were delicious as well. We kept asking for more salsas and applying them to out meats later in the meal. Here is a shot of the chips basket with the sauces on the side (spicy tomato salsa and salsa verde):
Belle ordered the Pollo al Pastor:
She said that it was very, very good, a lot better than she thought it would be!
Herc went with the Arrachera (steak) cooked medium rare:
There was nothing left on the plate.
This is one of the few dinners where I seriously cannot remember trying the kids' food. I'm not sure if it was all the margaritas or if I was just to busy and overwhelmed with my own food to bother with theirs! Aladdin and I went with one of the house specialty platters for 2, the Parillada Hacienda:
This was a HUGE amount of well seasoned chicken, steak with chimichurri, spicy chorizo, grilled veggies and corn with queso blanco. It was served with rice:
And beans:
Everything was just delicious! I was surprised at how moist and flavorful the chicken was (I usally find chicken pretty boring). I think the steak was my favorite. It was way too much food, and even Aladdin and I with our big appetites couldn't come close to finishing it!
Far be it from us NOT to order dessert!
Herc went for ice cream:
It was garnished with crispy churros and delicious caramel...and it was a hidden Mickey!
Aladdin went with the Chocolate Natilla:
Aladdin is obsessed with natilla. Our favorite Mexican place at home used to serve this, but they took it off the menu several years ago. Whenever we eat Mexican, he asks if they have this. He was so excited when he saw this on the menu, but it wasn't what he expected. He said it was more like flan than natilla, and he described it as "OK." I suppose that natilla is one of those things that can vary from region to region, and this was just not his favorite version.
I ordered the Empanada Manzana:
Again, this was not what I was expecting. This was like those apple pastries they serve is all the Disney bakeries, and not at all like a typical "empanada" that I have had elsewhere. Also, it wasn't hot. Disappointing.
Belle ordered the Tamal de Dulce:
She said that this was good, maybe a tortilla wrapping some cheesecake type filling with strawberry sauce? Like a blintz? Neither of us can really remember.
ETA: It came back to me. This was a corn cake! Belle still thinks that maybe it had some kind of filling in it, but IIRC, it was similar to a very moist corn muffin with sauce on it.
So in short, dessert was definitely the weakest course of this meal, but honestly, we didn't need it anyway. We were stuffed to the gills from delicious (filling) drinks, chips and salsa, queso fundido and all those yummy entrees! Now that I think about it, the desserts might have been great, but we just couldn't enjoy them because we were way too full!
I have one brief lunch review left (no pictures, sorry) for Cosmic Rays, and that will wrap up this DR. And I'll give you a sneak, exclusive preview of the restaurants that will be reviewed in my next report in August! Thanks everyone for sticking with me!
