A Dining Pre-Trip Report? Sure! LIVE report now completed!

We had to wait 45 minutes for our luggage at the airport - there was a huge thunderstorm and they couldn't get it off the plane - so when we checked into the resort and got up to our room, we literally got our bags delivered and turned around and walked down to Cape May Cafe. It's our traditional first dinner and we love it there.

We were seated in about 3 minutes and ordered our drinks (HUGE chocolate milk for DS - like a size medium, not the short one we're used to!), Coke for DH and a diet coke with lime for me:

(Yes, I took a photo of my soda!! :rotfl: )

DS and I went up and encountered very few lines. His choices:

Missing: Corn bread. It was perched too close to his mac and cheese so he cradled it protectively in his hands and ate it before I could snap a photo. So what's on the plate? A roll and butter, corn, chicken nugget, mac and cheese with "bonus bites" (as DS named them) of Mickey pasta. He ate everything except all the mac and cheese.

Soups of the day were white bean and ham and NE Clam chowder. I got some of the bean to eat while DS ate and DH got his plate:

Very good! Not too much different than Campbells Bean and Bacon, but I have always loved that ;)

DH's first plate:

Very soft roll ( I had one later - so good! Just bread, but soft and doughy and good!), carved sirloin, ribs, mashed potatoes and corn. Also broccolini that he shared with DS, who wielded it like a weapon before eating it.

My first plate:

WDW Mac and Cheese - oh how I love thee!!!
Red potato salad - one of my favorites, caesar salad (okay), salad I made - greens, hard boiled egg, olives, shredded cheese and a zinfandel vinaigrette. Pretty good. Dill cucumbers, a little soft but good.

And some photos - the first EVER - that I took of the salad portion. I was almost expecting a DISer to come up and know why I was taking these...!

assorted salads and peel and eat shrimp

potato salad, pasta salad, more shrimp...dressings: ranch, zinfandel (the pink one) and bleu cheese...can't remember the last one.

Looks good!!! and, another reason I need to get to the MOA some day - those crepes look delicious!!!

Off to a great start! Never been to Cape May, but it looks yummy.:goodvibes
The part with the cheeseburger and the light had me in stitches. :rotfl2:

After this portion of the meal, the lines started getting reaaaaally long. DS and DH went up with me to get their meals and went back and started eating. Rudely, neither bothered to take photos, so this was taken when I got back:

DS had some great fresh melon, olives, a brownie DH snuck on it, another roll and his own broccolini.

DH:

Two more rolls, more sirloin (didn't I tell you he loves steak!), ribs (and BBQ!) a brownie of his own and the pasta of the day: basic penne, marinara and parmesan.

Me:
I shared a small bowl of NE Clam Chowder with DH:

Very good! (Pepper added by me)

My second plate:
Allphotos-Orange134.jpg

Roll and butter (YUM!), mashed potatoes (too full to eat these), green beans, sirloin with horseradish and battered tilapia. I had one bite of the tilapia and it was WONDERFUL! But it had been sitting and was very greasy. I knew I'd regret it later, so DH tried it and we both agreed we would definitely eat it again if it were fresh.

And then? On to dessert! DH went up to get us a plate to share, and DS had his own:

Allphotos-Orange141.jpg

DS's cupcake and chocolate chip cookie bar...he liked and ate both.

Allphotos-Orange137.jpg

Oreo bon bons....DH's favorite dessert of all time! DS had one, I had one and DH ate two. These are an Oreo cookie with a cookies and cream mousse and chocolate over the whole thing. VERY good! Here is a cross section...the mousse looks gray and nasty but tastes like heaven:

Allphotos-Orange143.jpg

The Beach Club Marketplace needs to start selling these like the Mara sells the Zebra Domes. It would make DH a very happy man!

More desserts:

This is German Chocolate cake (chocolate on top was nasty, cake and coconut was okay), mini cheesecakes (I ate one bite, enjoyed it, but was too full and gave up) and tiny little lemon cream pies (YUM!!)

Here is where we were when we gave up:

The check arrived with a big pile of saltwater taffy, which is such a nice touch. All in all, a great first meal!

If you have any questions about what else is on the buffet, please ask! It's all still pretty fresh in my head so I can answer.

(And sorry about the varying quality of photos. I kept taking photos of DS and DH too, so some are cuisine and some are indoor, lighting, etc.)

We consider our beginning trip meal McDonalds breakfast... Idunno it's a classic i found it humorous you chose to do that as well :)
I can't wait for more!:flower3:

Thanks! It is totally our tradition, so I consider it WDW food ;)

You're off to a great start! Hope you're having fun!!!

We are! Travel Day was SO much better than usual! And we hit SuperTarget (bliss!!!!! ) tonight to get all the room supplies (FOUR cases of 24 bottles of water, two cases of beer, two huge bottles of wine, mojito cocktails, Coke Zero and Mountain Dew among others...Bell Services brought all of it but three of the cases of water up for us and said "one case of water and two cases of beer, wine and cocktails...I like these numbers! HA!!!

Those are some pretty artsy McDonald's pics! I can't wait to see what you can do with real food! But I really do love egg mcmuffins!

I actually took breakfast photos in the airport, but they looked kinda gross, so I refrained...:lmao: DH was making some serious fun of me when I put the cheeseburger up on the dashboard while we sailed down I-94. But I thought it was hilarious so I couldn't resist!

Yay yay yay! More more more! :thumbsup2

I hope you guys are having an AWESOME time!!

Thanks! And we so are!! Plus we had DS's annual vacation meltdown tonight (has one at the beginning of every trip and then is great for the rest) so we're set!

Looks good!!! and, another reason I need to get to the MOA some day - those crepes look delicious!!!

The MOA is awesome! If you have any questions or need help with plans ever, let me know.

Off to a great start! Never been to Cape May, but it looks yummy.:goodvibes
The part with the cheeseburger and the light had me in stitches. :rotfl2:

Thanks!!! I was pretty impressed with the onion divits on the bun ;)

Hey! You were close to me-I live about 5 minutes from the Mall Of America! :)

COOL! We should do a meet sometimes! We love getting our WDW fix from the MOA...Rainforest Cafe, Disney Store, Lego Store, Puck Express, etc. It isn't the same as being there, but a nice little fix.

Mmmmm...I think I'd just get steak and dessert! YUM!

Oh...you'd be happy with just that, I promise!

I bought myself a LivePURE fit and fresh filtered water bottle at SuperT for $10 before the trip...it filters up to 500 times and is super lightweight. We tried it tonight...the water from the faucet with no filter was normal nasty. Filtered through the bottle, it had no taste. Nice!

I'm going to try it tomorrow with park water (Gick!).

Not sure what's on the food agenda tomorrow (except Boma for dinner  ) but I suspect Artists Palette will play a role since I have an appt for my toes to be painted at the Spa (sighs happily....). If you have any questions about the menu there, I'm happy to check it out.

Oh and SuperT down here has a lovely Sutter Home Cab for $4.99. Wish me luck that it doesn't suck. ;)

All week I couldn't wait until Friday to read your dining report. The whole day I have been having horrible back and stomach pain but I made sure to get up and read your report!

awesome review!!!! you have me seriously considering Cape May now - we are staying at BC but we never considered it since, well, it's a clambake and we don't eat seafood. I loved your "traveling food" reviews too! Yay for a great start! Enjoy your bit of spa time! (Or, hope you enjoyed it, if you don't see this until the evening!)

Cape May looks like fun! I am loving your report! There's something extra special about a live report... knowing you're there and wondering where "in the world" you are now! ;)

This isn't food related but it's WDW related -- I'll be interested to hear what you think of your pedicure at the spa.

I am a Super-T fan too... and love even more that in FL they also sell alcohol. Talk about one-stop-shopping! Hope you enjoy your cabernet!

Cape May looks great! I cannot wait to go back there in Oct....

So where ya going today?

I was curious to what all seafood offerings were on the Cape May buffet? Looking forward to reading more. :goodvibes

WOW!!! Great review and pics!! I'm looking forward to seeing more!! Hope you're having a great time!!

So glad to join you on your vacation, WE sure are having fun, can't wait to see what's for dinner at BOMA!!!!!!!:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2
