A Dining Plan Question

I read through the FAQ's, but I didn't see an answer to this one...

Is it possible to "treat" someone to a meal on your dining plan? For instance, if we get the dining plan and my parents (who are also staying at Disney but don't do the meal plan) are out to dinner with us, can we "pay for" everyone's meal with the card? I know it would be 4 credits (1 per adult meal), but since there are only 2 adults on the card (DH and I), would they let you do this?

I don't know the answer to that question but I just had to tell you your daughter is so cute

Since all the credits are pooled, you can use them any way you want - so should be no trouble "treating" them on your card!

Thanks, I figured it would be OK. The only problem I would see is that you're using your meals for someone who's not on the plan. But it really shouldn't make a difference who's eating the meal as long as the credit is used for it, right?

My cousin lives in Orlando and we did treat her to meals twice. Once at Rose and Crown without a blink of the eye by our really competent and lovely waitress.

However, an odd little thing happened at Olivia's on October 1, 2005: When we sat down, we told the waiter that we were on the dining plan. He asked to see our card, on which (in pretty obvious code) is said we had three adults on the plan (one was 16 yr old "adult" stepdaughter who was witth friends that night). The waiter said, "Let me see... Good... Three adults... Okay." As if he would not be letting us use the plan for the 3 adults at the table if the card had not said three adults! He did NOT however ask everyone at the table for cards, so he seemed to be checking more that there were enough adults on our card to account for the three of us, rather than that the three of us were the actual people on the plan.

This was our last night and no one had ever asked us to see our card before dining-- we were on day 10 by then and were old hands at the process. I don't know if this was some sort of individual waiter abberation (he was very nice but a terrible waiter so I could definitely see him going off road on some interpretation of the plan) or if now some restaurants will start hassling people over the number of adults on their card relative to the number sitting at the table...

So if the ability to treat someone to a meal is a big "plus" for you, I might try to investigate this a little further. Maybe others will post recent experiences along similar lines...

I have read quite a few posts about folks paying for strangers meals (paying it forward) on their last day on the plan if they had credits left. I don't think it would be a problem to treat someone.


Then there is the whole thing about all the credits being the same - no kid vs. adult credits - it blows my mind to think that Disney isn't closing that loophole.....
