A Different Opinion on VMK Closing...

Let me start out by saying I am sad VMK is closing and will do everything I can to keep it open. But reading the letter from WDIG about closing old doors and opening new ones made me think about everything that has changed since the parks first opened.

How many rides, shows, etc have come and gone since the parks first opened. Without change you don’t grow. Yes a lot of people including myself are upset over this, but unfortunately things like this happen all the time. You never know maybe they are working on a bigger and better VMK and right now isn’t the right time for them to release it.

We have all made friends on VMK, and I would encourage each of you if they weren’t already on the Dis board to have them come here so you can talk to them through here. Send PM to each other. There are other ways to stay in contact besides VMK. Just because VMK is closing doesn’t mean you have to lose those friendships.

Go out there and enjoy your last days on VMK. Enjoy the time you have left and don't dwell on things you can't control. If you have always wanted to build a room go do it. If you want a high score in a game go work on it. If you just want to spend time with friends do it. And heck if you want to tie yourself to a tree in the Castle Forecourt go for it. (I was there last night and it is a pretty fun group to hang out with, even though I couldn't get the original tree hugger to talk.) I am not saying not to fight for VMK but at least ENJOY the time you have left.

Oh, you mean like Stitch replacing Alien Encounter and Pooh replacing Mr. Toad? :lmao:

Thanks for offering this perspective...I very much agree with you!

I love this; you're speaking my mind. So naturally I couldn't agree with you more. It's time to learn how to make the best of a bad situation.

I saw a thread earlier about a VMK Bucket List, which I thought was clever and a positive attitude to have. Why not do the things you always said you were going to get around to NOW? That will help us make the most of our last couple weeks and make everything just that more enjoyable.

Time and time again Disney has come out with fantastic games. I have faith that they'll do it again, no matter what that game is. Of course it won't be the same, it never can be. But they know what they're doing, and I'm sure they'll come out with something unexpectedly magical that we won't be able to help but enjoy it. :)

Haha, I must agree with the decision to have Buzz Lightyear replace Dream Flight (even though as a child, I had some strange glove for Dream Flight!).

Or they could be trying to quiet down the masses.

It was a pretty expected response at least in my opinion.

aengus is so right. That was a canned response sent out to ALL players, whether they sent out letters or not. It's their first attempt to get us to back off.

Yep, replace the great rides/shows that people of all ages enjoy, with either dumb or childish ones.

Sounds about right.

Very true.

Exactly!
Not giving up until after the lights have long been turned off.

lol you got it aengus....disney has been in business a loooong time, and they know how to anticipate (well, usually) fan reaction to a disappointing maneuver on their part...i'm sure that form letter was created right about the same time they announced the closing date lol....

however, i happen to agree with the message in that all good things come to an end, including vmk.

You guys are missing the point of this post. I said fight for VMK still, I never once said give up. I referenced something in the letter for the fact that you have to sometimes do things to grow. Maybe they have to do this to grow, maybe they just put that into make us be quiet, the point is to not stop fighting for VMK and enjoy your time.

Dont stop doing something just because there is a time frame now. Would you stop going to your favorite store because they were closing? Or stop eating something you loved because they werent going to make it anymore?

And as far as the rides go, come on. dumb or childish rides? Maybe some are but guess what there are a lot of older rides as well. Sometimes just because you think a ride is dumb doesnt mean everyone does. I know my 5 year old loves the Winnie the Pooh ride.

 Sorry I guess I am as guilty as everyone else

Even if we lose this fight I feel we will be better off for having fought it :)

Thanks for your words, they did make me think when I read them without jumping to conlcusions.

And we got Frontierland and Tomrrowland but lost the Spell room and Discovery Island? But Disney has never closed Magic Kingdom or Epcot! They can change rooms, but don't close our Virtual Magic Kingdom!

In the words of Dory

Just keep fighting, just keep fighting, just keep fighting....:yay:

I was coming around to the same decision MissPinsey. Some of the shock and sadness has worn off so now I can begin to fight harder, plan the things I had always wanted to do in VMK and really have fun. After the exhaustion of the impossible quest, fun is mandatory.

It just occurred to me that VMK is now allowing me to really focus on the moment, to enjoy what is now. I came home pretty late tonight, wasn't going to login the game but something changed my mind and I'm glad I did!

Although I suspect that the "need to grow" on the part of the game developers really has nothing to do with the closing of VMK, I agree with you.

We do things every day without any certainty that we'll be able to do them again tomorrow. We may act as if it's a given, but none of us can guarantee what the next day will bring. And that's probably a blessing, otherwise it would be difficult to go about our lives.

What would each of us be doing now if we had no warning of VMK's closure? Whatever was worthwhile before, still is. Knowing what's ahead is not an easy thing to handle, but it can help us to set our priorities.

But they didn't tear down the park and build something else on top of it. By closing VMK that is what they are doing.

By your example that happened in VMK when they closed down the Spell room and the Discovery Island.
