Is the numbness one-sided or non-symetric?
I only ask because (probably don't want to hear this) when I had my wisdom teeth removed, the roots were so deep that a nerve in my lower right side jaw was damaged. I remember my numbness went away late in the day elsewhere but not the lower right side jaw. That area remained numb, from about the middle of my lower lip, down to my chin, and half-way up the right jaw. The numbness remained for days, so I went to my surgeon who said this could be permanent since a nerve was damaged and no way to know if it regenerates or not. Fortunately the numbness didn't interfere with speech or chewing, but it felt weird to have no feeling in part of my face.
I was extremely fortunate that about 6 weeks later, the nerve started healing (
first noticed a pins-and-needles feeling) and continued to heal until back to normal.

I was very lucky! Sorry to share a worse-case senario! But prolonged numbness can mean problems.
But of course, I hope by the time you read this that your DS already regained feeling and is feeling much better, and my post is all a moot point!
