How much younger of a person would you date? A couple years? 5? 10? 15?
Do you think it makes a difference if it's an older man/younger woman vs older woman/younger man?

Just curious, having a debate with a few friends and thought I'd see what other people thought.

15-20 years.

Older woman with younger man is just absurd.

Well my DH is 7 years my junior. I have to say the majority of the men I dated after my divorce were younger then me. I did date one guy 10 years older then me for a short period of time . Oh boy was he not my type!! LOL, don't think it had anything to do with being 10 years older then me...but when a guys is in his late 30's and still single...there is usually a reason, or there was in his case!!

As long as you are of legal age...I have no issues with large age gaps.

The results of this poll is going to be horribly skewed based on the ages of the respondants. Obviously, someone older is going to give a much higher number than a younger person would.

5-10 years. I would only date a couple of years younger myself. My husband is 4 years older than me.
My brother is 9 years younger than his wife and they are happy as can be.

10 yrs max is my limit. Either way.

Why is an older woman with a younger man absure when an older man with a younger woman is not?

True...

To make it more specific if you were in your late 30s/early 40's.

I always had the 10 year rule for someone older than me and the three year rule for someone younger than me. It is personal preference. What trumps age though is how successful and ambitious the other person is. There are way too many losers out there that can't hold onto jobs or support their families - my sister's both married and had children with those types... I would judge that over age any day.

I am thankful that "dating" isn't something I had to deal with.

If, for some odd reason, I was somehow single again and actually alive and willing to have a relationship, I think my maximum age difference is 5 years. Not that I think more is larger age difference is wrong. Just not for me.

Men age more gracefully than women. Wasn't Sean Connery named the sexiest man when he was in his 60s.

My husband is 9 years older than me. His cousin is married to a woman 10 years older. As long as its legal....age is a number. Well being Hugh Hefeners gf would be weird.:laughing:

Probably 10+ years older would be my max. (Not younger because they would be a minor) I know people who are and they're great together.

Uhoh, you're asking for it!:lmao:
That sure wasn't the case at my 20th reunion. A lot of the men were fat and bald but the women looked terrific.

Funny that you should post this question today. My recently divorced bff just called to tell me that a handsome Dr 16 years younger than her just asked for her phone number:cool1::banana: I told her to go for it (and then tell me ALL about it!)

Not always. I know a number of men who are younger than me, but look quite a bit older. ;)

My Dh is 6 years younger then me and at first I was not happy about it. However, the age difference very rarely comes up in our relationship and when it does, it is in a humorous way.

I could never date a guy young enough to be my son. That just skeeves me out. All these women fighting over which is cuter, Edward or Jacob, I just don't understand it. All I see is someone I could have given birth to. :rotfl:

Well, my dad was 13 years older than my mom and that wasn't an issue for them. I'd probably say 15 years tops, beyond that you're getting to almost a generation in age difference. I've been out of the dating market for 30 years, and never dated anyone more than a few MONTHS difference in age.
Only comparison I can make is at work.......anyone more than 20 years younger than me I find I often can not even relate to as a co-worker, I can't imagine being in a relationship with them. They just lack life experience, and are still learning the life lessons I learned 20 or 30 years ago*. As for someone 20 years older, again using the coworker example, I can actual relate to them, but since I'm 53 there is only 1 coworker 20 years older than me, and that person and I have worked together for 33 years and remembers when I was a 20 year old know nothing.

* Example: the co-worker who is 30 years younger than me, living paycheck to paycheck and not understanding why she has no money. Yet she doesn't think twice about getting an i-Phone 4, a $79 a month phone/data plan, a $2,500 HDTV with $199 a month in HD cable service, a $30,000 car, a top of the line Apple $2,500 computer with a $50 a month broadband hookup.........what part of "you can't afford this" doesn't she get?

I really need to date someone my own age, I'd say 3-4 years either way but the closer the better and if he's older the better (but that's just a personal preference). I've noticed in being friends with people (and I need to be friends with someone I seriously date) that when there's too big of an age difference, it can affect a lot, at least I notice it. And while that's OK with a friend, it's not OK with someone I date.

I don't want to play babysitter to a man, and I don't want a man who was legal when I wasn't even in my double digits yet.
