A dating question :)

It was something that a group of psychologists found out.
That most people find it socially acceptable when the age difference is half the age of the eldest + 7.

Actually someone in this topic said the same.

I'm 20, and I wouldn't go much younger. I wouldn't want a typical teenager, and that's what I would probably get if I dated a guy who was a few years younger than me.

As for older, I'd probably go about 5 years. Any older, and I feel like they would be TOO mature for me..haha

LOL I think F.D. just lost points with some of his fan club. :rotfl::rotfl:
I believe he did.
He must be young...they say silly stuff sometimes when they're young. ;)

To answer the original question...

I think probably 10 years in either direction is the most I would go. After that, for me, it seems as if I would lose some "commonalities" with the person. I think of Demi & Ashton too. Yes, he's cute. Yes I'm sure the physical aspects are enjoyable. But there's alot more to it, for me, than cute and good sex.

I agree. I had a good (guy) friend that dated a girl that was 1/2 his age. He's 45 and she was 22. They were together for a couple of years but he finally just said that it was difference in what they grew up with. They had nothing in common from their childhood - they obviously didn't watch the same TV shows or live through the same historical events. There was nothing to talk about.

....and I think he got tired of people asking him if she was his daughter

Well, I think 7 is my magic number so I would have to say that at this point in my life I wouldn't go more than 7 years in either direction lol. My ex husband is 7 years older than me, my ex BF is 6 years older than me and the person I've been dating recently is 7 years younger than me. Oh and I'm 28.

Thanks for answering--interesting, I never heard of the study--I am always learning random things on the DIS:teacher: I did see that someone else had already mentioned that--I thought I put that in my post; just one mention seemed like a weird personal thing, but 2 seemed like it came from somewhere--thus the question.

About a year or so ago Ashton posted a pic on his Twitter account (is that what they're called? I don't know, never Twittered) of Demi bent over in their house wearing undies or a bathing suit bottom. I don't know if that's an age/maturity thing but I would bet Bruce would've never done that (and I'd take Bruce Willis over Ashton any day :)).

I probably wouldn't date anyone younger than me unless the difference was a year or less. As far as dating "up", 10+ years is the max. :)

Okay this is the second post about half the age plus 7. I have NEVER heard of it before. Do you know where it came from?:confused3

It came from ifounditontheinternetsoitmustbetrue.com... :surfweb:

I just said Happy Birthday to an ex of mine on Facebook. He's FINALLY to an age I don't have to apologize to people for!! :lmao:

Well I am in my mid-30s so I doubt I could go younger than 5 years. Most guys younger than that aren't at the same place I am. I would go 5-10 years older, but really kinda prefer my age group.

Well, put your money where you mouth is. Post a recent picture and let us guess :goodvibes

I pretty much always date younger. All their parts are still in the proper place, which is a plus.

I think a big reason it is more common for older men to date younger women is the child-bearing issue. A 60 year old man can still father a child with a 30 year old woman while the reverse isn't the case. Men are generally also more visual in their attraction and lets face it, younger looks better most of the time. There are of course exceptions but it is what it is.

LOL Firedancer got himself in trouble answering my post. LOL And um, even after 3 kids all my parts in the right place. LOL I'll see if I can find a photo for you FD. :)

Just look at Hollywood. Men can be romantic leads in movies well into their 50s. Most Woman are done being the romantic lead by their mid 30s. At that point, they move into "Mom" roles.

Of course there are exceptions and if you post a picture we can decide.

If the goal of marriage is procreation, men remain fertile throughout life whereas a woman's fertility is essentially over by the mid 30s (risk for genetic issues increases after that).

Hollywood is not real life, Hollywood is Hollywood and if someone doesn't know that then I wouldn't want to be with them. Another photo request huh? LOL These days the goal of marriage isn't necessarily procreation, for some people marriage is a lot more than that. Again, if that's the goal of the person I'm with then I wouldn't want to be with them. After all, once the kids are gone it's just the adults....you've got to have some kind of relationship with your husband/wife to make it last. So I'll see what i can find photo wise, I'm usually the taking the pictures so it can be difficult. :)

OK I found a couple of photos that were in my photobucket, I have 5 pages and only 4 photos had me in them. LOL So here you go, here are 2 photos of me. :)
